Ward wins by close but un dec Virgil Hunter is a great strategic thinking trainer he will give Ward the game plan and it will be carried out to a T

Maybe, but Hunter has losses as a trainer too. He seems to advocate a lot of dirty illegal tactics and excessive clinching, an honest referee may prevent that.ClivePatrickLyons wrote:Ward wins by close but un dec Virgil Hunter is a great strategic thinking trainer he will give Ward the game plan and it will be carried out to a T
John David Jackson is underrated as a trainer.

John David Jackson is certainly a very capable trainer I didn't mean to make it sound like he's not good at his business I just watched a doco on HBO about this upcoming fight and was surprised by the close bond Ward/Hunter posses and the long journey they have been on together its been going for year's the fighter and trainer have a very special bond this fight is a 50/50 fight and i'v been looking for something that they have been doing in training or something anything to sway me one way or the other I plan on having a bet on this fight the odd's on offer are good for both fighter's Wards $1.70 Kovalev $1.90 at the TAB [betting agency] Sergey story is one that you could make a boxing movie out of one day......matter of fact you could make a movie out of both fighter's life's both great trainer's and both great fighter's but my money will be on S.O.G

Andre Ward can't punch like Kovalev but he is better at just about every aspect, I'm hoping to see Sergei get hit hard 25-30 times a round and look foolish swinging at air. Would love to see him get dropped as well preferably face first, throw in a harlem shuffle and I'm a happy guy.

Ward won't even be throwing 25 punches a round let alone landing them.SFW wrote:Andre Ward can't punch like Kovalev but he is better at just about every aspect, I'm hoping to see Sergei get hit hard 25-30 times a round and look foolish swinging at air. I doubt he will have to, he's just a better boxer plain and simple. That's just what I'd prefer, to silence these kovalev nut huggers emphatically. They deserve no less.Riddick Blowe wrote:Ward won't even be throwing 25 punches a round let alone landing them.SFW wrote:Andre Ward can't punch like Kovalev but he is better at just about every aspect, I'm hoping to see Sergei get hit hard 25-30 times a round and look foolish swinging at air. sorry you'll be disappointed
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward: who will you be rooting for?
IDK about you guys. I am 39 and grew up watching and rooting for all of the best American fighters in the 80's and 90's. -- when 95% of these fighters were black. It never mattered to me -- and still doesn't. But these younger fans -- no disrespect -- cannot seem to understand that concept. It's always an underlying racial preference it seems like. People never get bored arguing about this crap or what? Give it up, move on.
As fans, we can root for whoever we choose to. That's what's great about this world and having the freedom of choice. As such, based on the "eye test" -- and I've seen both guys in the ring enough times -- I really don't know if Ward has the overall size that it will take the dominate Sergey. And I have mad respect for SOG. He's beat everyone he's faced pretty convincingly and was the kingpin at SMW for sure.
I think the Super 6 ruined a lot of fighters in the long run and his activity also slowed down a lot after the tourney as well -- promotional disputes or not.... And honestly -- nobody was left for him to face at SMW -- as Chad Dawson learned haha. I don't know -- he and Sergey fought in completely different weight classes and almost in overlapping eras. Ward has been forced to move up to LHW -- which is unfair to him...It's a hard fight to pick and hopefully anyone with an opinion on the matchup will do so objectively.
Honestly, I see it as split decision for Kovalev. No knockdowns in this one but both guys are going to be marked up. The fact that some of you guys think Ward will win in convincing fashion is hard to understand...and vice-versa with the early Sergey KO predictions. This is going to be a great one hopefully. As a huge Hopkins fan, that 2014 fight was painful to watch and should have never happened. This matchup is much, much, much better!

If we don't want boxing popularity slide even more, we need boxers like Kovalev dominate the sport. Casual fans will not want to watch Ward like bore fests.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward: who will you be rooting for?
Neither, just hoping for a good fight. And I think it will be too.

Most people going for Kovalev, polls are skewed these days.

I'll be rooting for Kovalev as I think Ward does bore casual fans away from the sport but also because I think he will win - if Ward can't work or smother for the whole of every round Kovalev will land and we've seen what he can do to guys with a decent chin.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward: who will you be rooting for?
Ward comes across a really nice guy. But he's awful to watch. Brings nothing in terms of entertainment. Does everything he can to stop a fight breaking out.

I'm rooting for Kovalev. I think it will be a close, stylistically interesting fight. But Ward has rarely been exciting, and I would just rather see the more dynamic fighter win this. Would not be surprised at all if Ward wins -- he's very good, but I just prefer Kovalev's style.
