You're being rather patronising here. For the record, I DO remember how it used to be, I am old enough to have seen Ali v Spinks II as probably my first boxing match on TV (not a great example admittedly)
I am not being funny here, but if I remember your posts on vivi.com back in 2000 - you didn't really know that much - of course, you have come leaps and bounds now, good for you. How's that for patronising?

The thing is right, I don't give a monkeys uncle what sky are, boxing was around for 100's of years before sky and it will around - maybe a 100 years after it. I don't have to like it, not getting caught up in the hype doesn't make me a 'hater' I don't care what sky's involvement in boxing, they are not the wholesale identity of boxing and to say they are is being crass and ignorant.

If you want to involve yourself with the hype, then good for you, no-one is stopping you. However, this is a boxing website and we are allowed to write opinions on the subject you may not like - it is allowed.
What I didn't know much 16 years ago? And? Wow, that's really cut me to the quick. Perhaps you have them all saved,

16 years ago, I was someone who was starting to study boxing more closely, and watch lots more old fights. People aren't born boxing fans, but fact is, I always knew a good fight when I saw one. Having an encyclopaedic knowledge isn't required to be a fan of the sport. It's about enjoying the events themselves.

I've said in various other posts that I take little or no notice of all the hype, perhaps you are seeing what you want to see. I really don't know.

Whether you like it or not, unless you go to lots of live fights, Sky and allegedly are pretty much (with the odd exception) the only outlets for the majority of live boxing in the UK- so your options are limited, there's nothing crass or ignorant about it whatsoever - it's reality. Sports broadcasting is only going to get bigger and more and more money oriented, so the future I'm afraid is rather bleak for you if you find it so unbearable.

Anyway, I think it's pointless trying to talk about this with you any more, there seems to be some sort of deep seated anger about it, I don't know how you bear it frankly.

So, if you knew fornicate all 16 years ago, why are you going back to 1978 in an attempt to be some kind of sage. None of what
you wrote by the way voids anything I have written. If you remember Ali vs Spinks and like the coverage of Sky and how they
are handling it, bully for you, not everyone feels the same.

I've said in various other posts that I take little or no notice of all the hype, perhaps you are seeing what you want to see. I really don't know.
I don't know why you are jumping in to be honest, this is of course a forum and one where everyone is entitled to their opinion, I am just stating that we as a forum of anoraks should be a bit more discerning, maybe that is not what the majority wants, fine - let that be the case, what it doesn't make me (or anyone else) is a hater or bitter or a know it all or what was the other one, some stupid comment about 'real fans not mattering.

Sky is not British boxing, most cards up and down this country are not patronised by sky, if you go to them or you don't is your affair, but the vast majority of British boxing is not funded by sky or else there would be no boxing.
Anyway, I think it's pointless trying to talk about this with you any more, there seems to be some sort of deep seated anger about it, I don't know how you bear it frankly.
I am full of anger issues, calling posters patronising for no reason, jumping into deabtes that didn't involve them - oh, wait a minute...

OK, you blame me for comprehension issues but you still seem to be the only one who doesn't understand my simple point that, contrary to your assertion that I am taken in by hype, I actually ignore it and assess a fighter on their own merits.

I gave you a really good chance to understand too, I must have made this point five times in this thread alone and multiple times in other threads.

You would need something of a clue what you are watching, you don't.

That's all there is to it. Anyway, Rob will be happy to chat with ya!

Watch out everyone, the Sage of Boxrec is in town! Everyone bow to his superior knowledge! Nobody has been alive long enough to know the things he knows about the sport! And if you have, he'll have been watching the Good Ol Days one year earlier, when the notion of promoting a fight didn't even exist!

It's like in the Olympics when there are two rings and fights running concurrently!

In this case your bout is far more entertaining than my ungainly maul.

Not sure, Fat Git as one guy clumsily wailing away without much corner advice is probably less entertaining than both of you doing the same. :D

What you know about boxing, you could write on the back of a stamp.

Sage and onion adds a palatable, nuanced flavour to the meat of the discussion. Whereas you only add tripe and bollocks :verysad:

What you know, you could write on the back of a strip of confetti, that's been stood on and reduced to a 2mm square at a wedding. You don't understand how the game is promoted. You fell at the first hurdle

You silly boy, boxing promotion did not start with sky TV, Eddie Hearn and PPV subscription, nor has there always been 7 world title organizations. Do you know who promoted the biggest attendance in the history of boxing? And no, it wasn't on PPV - go and read a book on the history of boxing and get back on here, where you might then be more useful a poster. :geek:
