The HBO commentary team and addiliated journalists favoured Kovalev. Neutrals like the Sky commentary team favoured Ward.

Kov landed far more power shots, look at the stats!! with the knockdown in bag too..and all judges having the same score. close fight sure separated by a few points, but the home fighter was always going to get the decision...so predictable. all the press had Kov winning too. he deserves a rematch now in Russia.

How times have changed. Not only did I think Kov won the fight, but the challenger is supposed to take the title, how the hell do you win a title by backing up and grabbing, gettomg out punched, and landing the harder shots?

Kovalev started strong then ward took over after rd 4. Macklin who is not American had ward winning.....Pauline had ward winning ....it was close and its bs to cry robbery

No it couldn't. I was t a fan of either fighter so had no bias but there is no way Ward won 7 rounds.

Perhaps - he's my favourite fighter, but his resume is lacking. Even if he beat Canelo I'd still have him behind Ward and Kovalev.

If you actually think Kovalev landed a larger volume of really hard punches, then you didn't even see the fight. It's one thing if you think Kovalev's higher volume of glancing pitty-pat jabs had more merit than Ward's harder shots. But if you think Kovalev landed more hard shots, you didn't actually see the fight at all.

I wanted Kovalev to win and was watching with HBO commentary, but I scored 7 rounds to Ward.

The cards were exactly the same way I scored it, 114-113 Ward.
Kovalev dominated the first 4 rounds....Ward won most (but didn't dominate) the last 8, in my opinion.
But clearly, it could have gone to Kovalev........unlike Mayweather/Pac, this is a rematch I want to see.

The first part of the fight Kovalev compelling and the second part is a lot worse. The close fight and Ward turned
and fight what he wants.Close decision sure.
