I need to watch the fight first, but as of now, I think Gary Russell jnr is my pick for the best fighter at featherweight. He doesn't fight anywhere near as often as he should, but he's got ridiculous hand speed and very good boxing ability. Some off his shine was taken off by the loss to Lomachenko, but he's still a very good fighter in his own right.

well if they meant framtpon, then for one thing he couldve done without getting battered insideRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 Dec 2018, 19:59 Heard a few lads walking up Cheethamhill Road, with one of saying “What more could he have done?”..
Was he referring to Josh? Carl?

Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton -22 Decemer 2018
yes, far stronger in close. all framptons rounds won were when he could stay outside and land quick counters. he got mauled by josh when josh got close. was surprised at how easily warrington hurt him too.
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton -22 Decemer 2018
I've not seen the fight yet but what I'm reading is exactly how I thought Warrington would win. Josh takes the fight game seriously and trains like no one else. He is getting better with every fight. While he is no puncher he out works his opponents with ease. It's going to take a decent featherweight to beat him.
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton -22 Decemer 2018
funny thing is he looked the bigger puncher vs frampton and hurt/bothered carl repeatedly
even though his ko rate is really low hes clearly not pillow fisted

You can't wear a union jack waste coat at boxing it seems these days from what I've seen circulating.
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton -22 Decemer 2018
Warrington managed to outfight Frampton. Not a shocking upset, but still I didn't expect that much. Probably the early onslaught destroyed Frampton's confidence, cause Warrington wasn't too effective after a very convincing start. He outworked Frampton eventually.

Gary Russell is an exceptionally gifted fighter. His jab was absolutely incredible against Diaz. On ability he should beat everyone at this weight.Nondescript wrote: ↑22 Dec 2018, 20:01 I need to watch the fight first, but as of now, I think Gary Russell jnr is my pick for the best fighter at featherweight. But he has zero desire to be a great. He simply doesn't care about boxing. Josh Warrington now has two wins better than anything in Russell's record.
Same for Leo Santa Cruz, he is a very good fighter but he doesn't care about boxing, has no desire at all to be a great.
F*ck both of them I say.

Yet again Warrington proves people wrong. Exceptional performance
Hopefully people on here will give him more credit.
I have a lot of love and respect for Carl Frampton. I've been to Belfast three times to watch him fight and was there to support him in my local arena against Quigg.
I really hope Carl retires now.

Absolute joke, how does a national flag offend anyone in their own country? Was at the fight supporting Carl, but mainly Warrington fans around me, they weren't too sure who won, personally I had Josh by 2, he fought at a pace Carl couldn't, not sure many can
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton -22 Decemer 2018
Fair play to Warrington, he is much better than I thought and it was a great fight. Anyone he fights had better train hard that's for sure!

I think financially Frampton was in a really tough place when he left Cyclone Promotions.
Has he earned pretty well in his last 3 fights? Like a million or so?
Also I guess Cyclone will be looking to get hold of his recent earnings.

117-111 Warrington on my card.
He did everything I expected and so much more. I don't think any of us were really expecting him to jump on Frampton early like he did, nor did I think he'd hurt him so easily.
Time for us all to start rating Warrington, he's tidied up the 'slightly overrated but still pretty good' British lads on the scene, who were much more hyped than him. Now it's time to try him at the top world level now I guess, and I think he'll still do pretty well. I think Warrington is like a more educated, less powerful Hatton. That's a compliment really, he's good to watch but not so gung-ho.
One thing I have to say about Frampton though - We've been hearing about Frampton's power for God knows how long, yet last night I think we saw he's not really mad powerful, maybe we all swallowed a bit too much of Barry McGuigan's hype of the lad in his early-mid career, cos for me he's never quite lived up to Barry's big hype talk. A good world level fighter, but never had a great engine and that was always gona have him in trouble against a duracell bunny like Warrington.

Class by Frampton. When they announced the scores but before announcing the winner, he pointed at Warrington. Same gesture Holyfield made at the same moment against Bowe in the first fight. Classy move in a fight that he definitely lost, but not shut out and even had some close swing rounds.

Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton -22 Decemer 2018
What a fight and the hairs on the back of my neck went up in the first round when Warrington showed Frampton that he wasn’t there to mess about.
Talk about laying down a marker...
There was some crazy punch outs there - going by memory I think it was the eighth that was round of the year ?!
And Frampton is definitely a world class puncher, just ask leo Santa Cruz, he’ll confirm that for sure
But I’d say Josh is a freak of nature, teak tough as they come - he’s got a head that looks like it’s carved from rock, which pretty much sums up his chin!
I watched both the big fights as live this morning with Russian commentary - wow such a difference - calm, just let the action flow & speak for itself, without yacking all the time. Brilliant end to the year.
And the sportsmanship Carl & Josh showed was fantastic

Frampton made the mistake of responding to the firestorm rather than moving or holding in the first two rounds when buzzed. May have lost anyway, but I felt the fight itself was lost there and then.

I'm converted. Never been a fan of Warrington not even after the Selby fight but after last night you can't not be. His work rate is second to none anyone looking to fight him will know they got to get in some shape cos if they ain't they will be in for a beating

I heard Frampton in a post fight agree with your point that he shouldn’t have stood still and traded, but he said he was buzzed so couldn’t really move his feet anyway. Some very honest analysis as always from Frampton.
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton -22 Decemer 2018
another pretty incredible performance from Leeds' finest
Out fought and out thought Frampton - so much to admire about his performance -
* the mental toughness and strength of character to go toe to toe in those opening rounds - trusting his chin, conditioning and his own power, to really put it on Carl and make a statement early doors. Josh seems to really back himself these days, he knows his own ability and was clearly in no way overawed by the occasion or class of opponent - those huge attacks put his stamp on the fight immediately.
* his patience and skill at range, Frampton would box and move for 2 mins of the round, but Josh made him work and think just by his footwork and control of range - constantly sidestepping and changing angles then firing out that heavy jab on the step after a feint, or firing the right hand over Carl's low left - totally took Frampton's confidence+usual rhythm away.
* his underrated defence was again a factor too - Josh blocks and rides shots so well off the forearms, his chin position is always on point and he can drop ever so slightly out of range in a millisecond which means guys rarely get a full blooded shot at him at mid/long range. Up close he kept his head off centre and gravity low, then backed Frampton up to the ropes taking his balance and his power away, while he could impose himself and use his size to put serious physical pressure on the smaller man.
* the clever work in the pocket, bending his knees and getting full leverage on the body shots which I think were crippling Carl, then switching the attack upstairs, punching really short+compact with great variety. Again his footwork was superb at this range too - little sidesteps and subtle adjustments kept Carl off balance and allowed Josh to get his own work in while limiting the damage he took; up close Josh would smother then use his forearms to keep Carl in place, while he fired the clubbing hooks round the side and short uppercuts through the middle.
* his general strength+fitness was again a thing to behold - genuinely one of the best physically conditioned fighters we've seen from this country in many years - Josh is always ripped to the bone but now in his absolute prime he seems to be reaching new levels of robustness - I know he's renowned as a super diligent and dedicated trainer but massive credit has to go to the people responsible for building and maintaining such an impressive athlete.
Frampton of course played his part in a great fight but it looked to me that Warrington was always the man who could go up a gear when needed, and seemed to know Carl couldn't go with him.
What a year for the lad, he must feel vindicated yet again, proving people wrong and showing showing the class+ability that most of us thought he didn't have in him![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

A spot on accessment of the lad. Well done. He sickened frampton last night. What impresses me most about josh is that he so clearly knows who he is as a fighter.arlovski wrote: ↑23 Dec 2018, 10:55 another pretty incredible performance from Leeds' finest![]()
