It’s a delicate balance - he wants to go out on a win, but to sell enough tickets the opponent needs to be competitive but not good enough to win.

there are a lot worse title challengers all the time. every major publication that i saw, plus boxrec, had crolla top 10 at lw. hed previously given linares a good fight the first time around, beat perez and burns etc, he wasnt a bum. but this is often what you see when an elite p4p guy faces a just so so contender type

loma needs to fight commey or berchelt (both top rank affiliated) this year and the other the next year at least. tank and mikey are not realistic atm. a guy like crolla simply adds nothing to lomas standing.

I think we all expected more from Crolla, including himself. He's all heart.

TBH there was nothing more he could do or try.

Crolla has become Loma's quickest victim..

His first pro bout also ended in round 4, but after 2:55.
I called KO 3 so I expected less... I said the second this fight was talked about, Loma doesn't need to be a monster puncher he's THAT good he can take Crolla out literally whenever he feels like and he did

I like Crolla as a person and a fighter but he's the worst pro Loma has faced in his career, maybe except Jose Ramirez

Agree if he was to have a final farewell at home it needs to be a decent domestic name, but one he can beat....but how many in or around the lightweight division suits that criteria?

lightweight
Lee Selby - Tricky opponent but not a banger, maybe not exactly a recognisable enough name?
Ricky Burns - Already beaten him, and still probably poses a good risk.

super feather
Scott Quigg - A local rival, been in with decent opposition but maybe too big an ask to jump up another division. Lightweight would be 4 divisions higher than he started out.

light welter
Terry Flanagan - Another Manchester lad, posses a big risk though maybe?
Luke Campbell - Probably looking for bigger fights
Jack Catterall - Maybe a bit unknown, something of a prospect. Again, risky.

I think maybe Eddie would find someone foreign with a good padded record. I think the fans would fill up the Manchester Arena regardless to be honest.

Other than what is to all intents and purposes a testimonial, I'm not too sure there's anything left for Crolla. Good career. Time to rest.

nah, crollas defo better then some of lomas early pro opponents, like ramirez, the thai guy, koaschlo, and rodriguez. id say defo better then marriaga too considering marriaga was brought up for that.

crollas a pretty solid fighter and was a consensu s top 10 lw. gave linares trouble first time, beat burns, murray, rees, barroso, and perez (who in reality dominated the now streaking hooker)

just not near lomas level

Crolla usually starts slow and gets better so the gulf in class was even more magnified in those early rounds. I thought he'd take it to the late rounds but he was never in the fight...no shame...good luck to him in the future.

Everyone knew it was a mismatch but only because Lomachenko is so good, if Crolla was matched with any other Lightweight apart from Garcia then I doubt anyone would say a word, even Commey would be seen as a closeish fight i'd imagine although you would have Crolla the underdog going in most likely, a lot of people slating Crolla are then vouching for the untested Teofimo Lopez in the next breath

Lomachenko isn't going to fight Garcia and Davis next so I'm expecting more mismatches TBH, in an ideal world the elite level fighters wouldn't have to fight guys outside the top 5 of their divsions but it aint gonna happen, there's a lot of mud being flung at Eddie but I'm sure if he offered Crolla the chance to fight Loma again he would. I see Crolla as a bit of a throwback fighter, I doubt he'd ever price himself out of a fight like we've seen a lot of Brits do in the last couple of years, guys like Crolla are not like the guys on twitter and boxing forums who complain about being "fed to the wolves", guys like Crolla are in it to fight at the top level and to test themselves

I know a lot of the sh1t being flung at the WBA and Eddie is safety related concerns but lets have it right, there's mismatches every day in boxing, dozens every weekend with guys far less equipped than Anthony Crolla and thankfully percentage wise there isn't too many bad injuries and TBH off the top of my head, the bad ring deaths/injuries I can think of have came in 50/50 fights or close to
