The crux of the problem are the promoters paying the officials off. Of course, they won't sanction them because they can cause trouble and put the BBB of C out of business.

The day I realised the level of corruption in British boxing was the day I lost interest in it. The 'sport' is rotten to its core. O'Connor is just the most obvious tumor but it goes far deeper than him.

There would seem to be no other obvious reason other than the financial benefits to everyone involved that come from a house fighter winning for Tel to put that scorecard in but what I don’t get is why make it soooo wide.

Just to play devil’s advocate .... maybe Tel is just absolutely hopeless at scoring fights ?

Maybe, he is secretly disgusted at it too and he is trying in his own way to highlight the corruption! By putting in that score, he is telling the world the whole thing is bent. No-one can deny it isn't happening even if they're not willing to do anything about it. Anyway, time to go to work.

Can I just point out a Japanese promoter has got a ¥500,000 fine for MOVING seats at a show recently and another got that fine AND A 6 month licenses suspension for having drunk ring card girls at a show...

BBBofC on the other hand couldn't give a shit about a consistently bad promoter

I wouldn’t be surprised if all the furore around this matter led to Tel voluntarily resigning in the next couple of months. Maybe Smith and the board didn’t want to be seen to be bullied into action by social media outrage even though it was justified on this occasion.

You have to think that they know what’s right and they know it’s time for Tel to go.

This whole fiasco is the very reason then fightnight scores was created!
Is a simple addition to the usual scoring system. Add a reason why the round was scored as it was, from a list of plausible and different potential reasons.

It's not earth shattering stuff, but it adds SOME accountability to a judges scorecard. It's a snapshot into their thinking at that specific time. And it can be questioned at a later time if required.

Now obiously for a system to be used would also mean using digital scorecards....that would be a bit change.

As suggested earlier, if he is corrupt then he's abysmal at disguising it. Surely you'd throw a few more rounds Vasquez's way just to make it less obvious?

Smith's response to this has been shameful though, he needs to challenge terrible scoring and not try and hide it behind "It's all subjective innit, judging".

I also think the phone outrage/nonsense (and it clearly wasn't a phone as soon as anyone bothered to watch the footage)distracted from the real issue.
