I was going to put £20 on Bivol on points but after Whyte bombed out I didn’t fancy anymore underdogs for a while. Grr!

Shocking number of jabs landed, if that's correct. A very poor performance from Canelo, he looked shattered early on.

He just didn't seem to have any urgency, no change of pace .. or any noticeable plan.
At 5'8 I think he just realised the size limit of what his skills can compensate for. He appears to have bulked out to fill into 168lb - without the Mexican beef - his natural weight is likely LT-middle or middleweight.

For me this loss doesn't detract from his greatness. Others greats such as Monzon, Hagler and GGG were happy to stay at one weight and not risk testing themselves in a higher weight than their natural 160.

You have to admire how he wants to go through the weights.

He’s not a light-heavy and probably will never be. He needs to get down to 168lbs and wait for some of the names to come up from middle.

I don’t see why this makes the Golovkin fight less attractive; to me it changes the dynamics completely. Canelo has been humbled to a certain degree and GGG will take confidence from him coming back from a defeat.

I still expect Canelo to win but you now can’t complain about his comeback fight now being GGG; it’s certainly better than what we’d get with any other fighter under Hearn. A fighter ranked 60+ places lower and coming up from a smaller weight.

Golovkin in Sept, Benevidez in December and go from there….

I actually still think with a different training programme he can make middleweight again; maybe attempt to become undisputed there?

He’s still P4P#1 imo.

History will def look kindly at him for going through the weights and not ducking anyone.

I am unsure of the fight purse Bivol got in comparison to Canelo - I imagine it was a somewhere around $5 million though. I read now that he is beginning to suggest in the rematch he gets the champions cut ... I think thats wishful thinking on his part; best he can hope for is that Canelo gives him the rematch.

I don`t feel Canelo needs to fight Bivol again; he just found out that size does matter. And he can spend the last few years of his fight career staying at 168 cherry picking opponents moving up from 154/160/168 as a lot of others have done at the end of their career to cement their legacy .. and fill their pockets.

I would rather they don’t, but if Canelo and Bivol do rematch, that leaves GGG looking for a fight, Andrade still has his middle weight strap, was his injured shoulder a ploy to free him up to potentially fight GGG unification ? No doubt someone will tell me I’m overlooking something obvious.

Andrade has the real belt. I do think he doesn’t want to stay at 160 anymore.

Yes, appreciate there’s an interim belt. What other options does GGG have without Canelo ? Surely Andrade would earn more fighting GGG than Parker ?

He defo should be getting the Champions cut, he just put the man in his place. It was a fairly easy nights work for him ,they obviously knew the Golovkin 3 fight was signed and ready to be announced. Totally overlooked and it was great to see Alvarez get done.

Obviously Bivol will think differently because he’ll get a much bigger payday by far for a Canelo rematch but the fight everyone wants to see is Biv v Beterbiev.

Feels like we’re owed that one seeing as we never got Kovalev Stevenson

Bivol was 268–15 as an amateur and he put that experience to work when the bell rang.

I thought he lacked ‘big fight’ experience, with the big publicity and big pressers and he’d possibly be a rabbit in the headlights, but he was utterly unfazed by any of it.

He was both humorous and humble in victory and there’s everything to like about him.

It was pedigree entertainment. Credit to canelo he took his licks and showed a great chin. Very courteous in defeat too.

Great fight all in all. Boxing needed it to be honest.

Not a great surprise for anyone who has seen bivol fight in the past .
Canelo seems like a sore loser now saying he felt he won and questioning judges .
he should stay at 168 .

and as for fighting Usyk forget it you will get humiliated .

I did give Canelo 4 rounds but 3 of them not because he won, rather than Bivol’s work rate dipped in them.

When he put his shots together he looked very good. Simple straight shots coupled with a high guard bamboozled Alvarez.

Weight and size was the overriding factor tho imo. If Bivol was half a stone naturally lighter I think Canelo overpowers him.

There will be no rematch, too one-sided. Canelo will go back to Grandpa Golovkin now.

tbh i'd much rather bivol fight for the undisputed next if beterbiev beats smith, seems like nearly every time an undisputed fight becomes possible a rematch clause scuppers things

Canelo has already proved he is an ATG.
Robinson never rematched Maxim and retained his ATG status.
It's the casuals who will be relegating Canelo outside the P4P top 10 based on a loss to a very good champion a weight too far.
Canelo's resume speaks for itself; who else currently in the game has taken so many 0's from champions?
