I suppose it depends on whether the board wish to suspend all professional boxing this weekend. Haven't seen any statement from them as yet, not even the basic condolences message.

This seems really archaic.

The government can literally tell ALL sports bodies they have to cancel sport and the serfs and peasants have to fall in line?

Being a glass half full sort of chap, I read that to mean the government were saying the sporting bodies had the final say.

Looks like the BBBofC are cancelling other shows. Not looking good for this card.

wow, that's some great historical info.

The government have no right to take money out of anyone's pockets especially in the middle of a living crisis, if the royal family really gave a fck then they'd leave it up to peoples discretion, they'll be plenty of tributes being paid but now people will be left financially out of pocket

A couple of years ago I couldn't care less about independence etc I just wanted what's best but fck the Tories and the royals, hopefully my kids will live in a world free of conservatives and royals when their older

Your point about "I'm not quite sure why" hits the nail on the head. Whatever people think of the Royal family or the current government, to my knowledge neither of them have said to sports administrative bodies "you must cancel everything". And, per my post above, no boxing was cancelled at the death of George VI. In football, there appears to have been a pretty full programme of fixtures in England on Saturday 9 February 1952. So there is no historical precedent for cancellation. If sports do cancel, it may be administrators not knowing their history, trying excessively hard to do the right thing only to end up doing entirely the wrong thing. Keep calm and carry on, etc.

Surely for this event to still be up in the air, it must mean that discussions are taking place around what will be implemented to ensure the show is going to tick all the required boxes, with regards to the paying of respects.

This is a fairly significant card, featuring perhaps the biggest contest possible in women's boxing (at least in the UK).

Athletes train to a date. Boxers particularly, sparring to a schedule and tapering so they peak at the right time.

It wouldn't be fair to ask them to come off their peaks and work to another date. It would impact the integrity of the result.

Add to that the financial impacts of everyone involved, including the fans, and it makes sense to go ahead, but in a respectful manner.
