Tyson wanted no part of Lewis, he knew he wasn't the fighter he once was, and knew he was no longer into it enough to win.stujones wrote:Hello,Ben Carey wrote:

As I've already said, I can understand Dodson's reasoning for pulling out of the first two fights due to injury, but I think you've both given him an easy ride for pulling out for a third time, when he wasn't injured, just because he didn't consider he had enough time to prepare and his purse wasn't big enough. Having shouted the odds I would have thought he would have jumped at the chance to take the fight.
I haven't read that you said Tony wasn't injured for the third pull out. Appologies if you have, but I haven't read it. Now you say this "revelation" (cause I assumed it was three injuries) then your argument hold more credance.
HOWEVER (and its a big However). In 2 hours time, Tony is fighting Froch. Whether he is Mystic Meg or not, Tony is fighting him. Surely he must get some credit for this... perhaps he geniunally wasn't ready, cause obviously he has the bottle to take him on.
Mike Tyson kept saying "two more fights" when he was WBC #1 contender for Lewis. After many commentators losing patience people were starting to question Tyson's bottle. Jim Watt said "He said two fights, five fights back and is still saying it now.... when will he be ready".
I thought the same, but eventually Tyson plucked up the coverage and fought Lewis. Therefore, I don't think it was Bottle reason why he didn't take on Lewis after his original "two fight" promise. Same with Dodson... the fact he is now fighting Froch should show that his reasoning for not fighting Froch the 3rd time was legitimate.
Dodson could have waited a little long, defended his English title and waited for Froch to fight for the EBU/World title before fighting an easier foe for the British title. Its not like he has no options. He is in the top 2 British title eligable fighters (i'm calling Joe and Robin Reid beyond the level).... and this would remain win, lose or draw vs Froch. Dodson vs Barney or Catley for the vacant title would have some appeal and tough to predict.
I am all for boxers making sure they are right before the fight... I don't like hearing excuses after.
I think when Tyson signed the fight he wanted Lewis, but he didn't want or like to train for 6 weeks. The beating he took vs Lewis (albeit in shambolic condition) showed that he wanted it, and didn't want out. However, the damage was done in that his desire to train had gone.jamesmcdonnell wrote:

Was money and issue? Maybe, but I am sure Tyson could have continued the "two more fights" line and pick up £30 million cheques fighting bums for some time.
Incidently, have you seen the Tyson exhibition bout. Okay a bit of a joke, but if Tyson made an official comeback I'd probably be dull enough to buy it. In many ways that was the best I have seen Tyson since Saverese. It was a sparring session, but he geniunally hurt Sanders on several occasions and the movement and stamina was actually better than for most of his latter geniune bouts.
Makes me think if it was the pressure that got to the later Tyson. He fought relaxed as there was no pressure and even out of shape, he was throwing more punches in the 4th than vs McBride and Williams. The Side to side head movement was back and sustain throughout the fight.
Its quite a strange one, but it was entertaining.

The problem is that Tyson has no desire to fight, and lost his desire to fight hard a long time ago.
Post douglas, he relied on his power to get the job done, but wasn't prepared for a hard fight, which is why he was taken apart by
Tyson was like a zombie against Lewis, he wanted the money, but not the fight. He gave up as soon as he realised, that as he suspected Lewis wasn't scared, and was going to be hitting him with massive shots whenever he tried to get close.
Tyson has stated since then that he had no real desire left to fight at that point in time and was just going through the motions, and even Lennox recently said that with hindsight, Tyson just turned up that night and went through with the deal.
Tyson still has the moves, still probably has decent speed and definetly has power, but without the desire to actually get in there and engage an opponent in a real drag out known down fight, they are useless.

I do agree with that.... my arguement though was that it wasn't Lewis per se that Tyson wanted no part of, but Boxing.
What I do find odd is that if Tyson doesn't like fighting and doesn't like taking shots... why doesn't he utilise his side to side movement in actual contests these days (as its still there). Surely a person without the fighting guts and doing for money, would like to take as little punches as possible. It's not that it doesn't detract from his power - he could still get his opponent out of there with one shot.
A sport psychologist would have a field day figuring out Tyson.
Tyson is/was a phenomena.... Boxing monthly have got a piece saying that fighters of a similar style were shot in their mid/late twenties. I agree, but with the likes of Frazier - they were physically shot. With Tyson, all his problems seem to be due to desire and not physical tools - even at 40 still got the fastest hands in the business (heavyweight wise).

Yes he did.fatman wrote:Froch proved that he is a different class to Dodson tonight
No shame for Dodson though. He just got an absolute beauty that landed right on the money. The only criticism could be that Tony appeared a little over-keen and reached with his punches a little, allowing Froch to counter at will. I can't remember the last time I saw Froch as sharp as he was in the second and third rounds though, he really put his punches together nicely.
However, I still dislike the man.

Well done to Froch - once he got out of the first round he boxed well.
The right uppercut was sweetly delivered and is becoming something of a signature punch. The left hook to the body which finished it was expertly delivered; 'hidden' behind the one-two to the head that preceeded it.
Its the body shots you dont see that hurt the worst.
Still, Froch has bigger fish to fry than domestic class so Dodson can regroup and look to have a crack at the British title once its vacated.
Tony still has plenty to offer the game and should be well in the mix for a vacant title eliminator

Spud, you would make a good politician, still haven't anwsered my question about Colin Power I see?Spud wrote:Knows nothing and contributes nothing?????Carlos-Wigan wrote:Silkov, silkov wrote: He is an idiot... if you write something he doesnt like on a forum that he is a mod on then he bans you, or rather insults you, then bans you. The guy is a plank. Ben Carey invited me to their forum to contribute which I did and always on topic. The Spud has one of his many retiring from moderating speeches and bans me!
It is true I asked once did he know who Colin Power was and instead of saying "No I don't know" he banned me instead(this was during ESB)
What annoys me is that you could see he was trying to get his name into boxing when he would write his weekly letter to boxing news always using his 'spud' moniker!
Hopefully Stu or whoever does the banning around here can rid this forum of the potato man. He knows nothing and contributes nothing. Are we going to get another retirement speech off him!
As for the fight, I think Froch being the man on form will win, I can't say I have a vested interest in either fighter but I know Dodson will go down fighting. Good luck to both fighters and Spud... get lost!
Ummmmmm
In your very few posts since 2005 ... you decide to come onto boxrec and what is your contribution ... guess what ... not to discuss boxing but to slag me off!!!
What a complete and utter hypocrite you are.
I will say no more ... myself and Ben merely had a couple of statements to make concerning Dodson and after Rhino did the initial goading ... it seems it is you Carlos who is making yourself ill ... it seems to be your forum and to a point this thread where the only popular threads are when you are slagging me off!!! .... FACT
You in your pathetically sad little world have to slag me off to get the controversy going to get your rather pathetic forum going ... what a complete joke and hypocrite you are .... discuss boxing ... you are f*cking clueless and it seems your thread "Spud Woollatt ... Grow Up you little prick" has indeed made it to being the most popular thread in weeks on dogshit.com ... WELL DONE!!!
Carlos the man who has to go onto other forums where he has hardly visited to try to entice the forum member to slag Spud off because in reality you are a bigger nobody than I am.
Bye Bye Carlos ... off back to boxingtalk where reasonable boxing debate goes on ... you will be happy I will not return here until this place rids itself of you and Rhino!!!
See if you can string a few boxing related posts together without slagging me off to try to hide your pathetic and weak inadequacies!!!
I don't know why you are here except maybe to try and take over this forum. Only thing I know is that the mods and the posters here are too switched on to let you and your ego come marching in here.
It aint my forum (DHB), it is Glaxors... this is where me and you differ (apart from the boxing knowledge of course) your huge easily bruised ego tells you wherever you go you have ownership and that the posters are yours to transport wherever you like as soon as you fall out with a site owner.
I have come here and there was 7 pages of posters slagging you off before I even said my piece, everyone has got your measure.
And as for me. I am a nobody, you are right. My role in boxing from now on is when I have a son teach him to box and take him to the odd show and sometimes discuss the sport with like minded fans either online or in person. Makes no odds to me. Last thing you will ever see me doing is arselicking people in the pro game because the huge majority of them are not worth the bother and secondly I have no place there and neither do you.
I will always remember you angling Steve Bunce to get a place on his radio 5 show
Unlucky Tony D, he came to have a go but Froch is a future world champion. It happens to most fighters and hopefully Tony can come back to regain the British crown.
PS: To the patrons of boxrec British forums, Myself and Rhino have just got rid of the potato blight that was taking up here. You can all thank us later!

Nah mate, getting too old now... 35 in March
I think I will stick around Phenom! Keep this forum blight free! anyway good to hear from you.
you are right carlos, this place is better off without him... i apologise now to the lads on boxrec for jumping at spud the moment he appeared on here......but why is he here, nothing more than to cause trouble i assure you.
FACTS...
i cannot think of one person fighter/trainer who posts on boxing talk, they used to but its not hard to see why they left.
tony dodson used to post there, spuds verbal assault upset tony, and understandably so. so boxing talk had the chance to have tony dodson posting, but they buggered him off.
so now he posts on here, they have appeared on a thread started by him.... even when they buggered him off their own forum with a torrent of verbals and mighty 'delete button' posturing.
it can be for no other reason than trouble causing.
