This is a huge win for ITV.
Gauld, my blood pressure is getting all Alvarez thinking about him.
The list of TV presenters I'd love to punch square in the face is long. Very, very long. But Dave Clarke sits right at the top of it.

Yeah, I feel sorry for Enzo. He has been out of action since the Haye fight and was expecting to fight for a World title tomorrow. Now he's facing a Heavyweight that was supposed to be an opponent for a prospect.

Jesus christ, this really is appalling. This says it all about the WBO, the guy they sanctioned for a WBO 'world' title fight, was so out of shape he had elevated blood pressure.
Thank christ Christopher Reeve is dead, he might have had a ranking come fight night.

Yeah. I doubt Hennessy will be laughing tho, he has suffered from late pull outs in the past.

I find any late pullout is bad news.

Enzo Maccarinelli can be forgiven for feeling a little bowed today as his bid to regain the WBO cruiserweight title evaporated at yesterday's pre-fight medical. His opponent, Francisco Alvarez, a little-known, 31-year-old Puerto Rican apparently has high blood pressure and is on his way home, on one aspirin a day. They said Cassius Clay had sky-high blood pressure before his fight with Sonny Liston in 1964 but 1964 is an awful long time ago. Safety comes first, these days.
None of this consoles Maccarinelli. The giant Swansea puncher looked in fantastic shape at the weigh-in (he was never going to fail the medical) and was desperate to erase the memory of a two-round defeat he suffered at the hands of David Haye earlier this year in London, which cost him his WBO belt. Haye has since moved up, successfully, to heavyweight, and 28-year-old Enzo will wince at the irony tonight as he faces perennial heavyweight disappointment Matthew Ellis in a non-title 10-rounder.
Blackpool's Ellis is no Jonathon Banks, the unbeaten American originally linked to Maccarinelli for the vacant WBO belt; he is no Herbie Hide, the Norwich man then linked to Maccarinelli for the belt when Banks pulled out with an ankle injury; he is not even Francisco Alvarez, who stepped in when Hide did a Kirkland Laing.
Above all, Ellis is no David Haye.
Ellis turned pro when mobile phones barely existed, off the back of a good amateur record, but never lived up to his amateur form or his early professional promise. Basically, he wins a few, shows good boxing skills and a bit of a dig but then he steps up and shows fragility. He has lost five of his 26 fights - and lost by stoppage every time (maybe he is like Herbie Hide). Ellis shook Audley Harrison with a left hook in the first round of a stifling night at York Hall in May 2003 which ended in Hide being chased down the Old Ford Road, but Harrison destroyed him in the second. Ominously, the 34-year-old Ellis has barely scratched the line over the last few years but he got in a four-round decision over Luke Simpkin last month and deserves credit for stepping so late.
Big Enzo is going to take him apart.

His last defeat was to Chris Burton, in Peterlee. I watched that fight, and Ellis did not come out for Round 3, due to an injury to the body- he was rubbing his side as he left the ring, so could have been a rib injury. Hard to say.

I more interested in whats happend to Jonathon Banks. He's been like lord lucan since the win on the Klitchsko vs Thompson bill.... absolutely NO interview on the title shot, no statement even from a member of camp that he is injured... infact, is he alive. Been the quitest man apparently signed to fight for a world title in the UK I have ever seen.
Wah de blood clot 2!

Maccarinelli to fight heavyweight!
Enzo Maccarinelli will make his heavyweight debut when he takes on Matthew Ellis over ten rounds at heavyweight on Saturday night at the ExCeL London. "I'm really pissed off with everything that has happened so when I get in that ring I'm going to be an angry man throwing bombs," said Maccarinelli, who has seen, for one reason or another, Johnathon Banks, Herbie Hide and now Alvarez ruled out of the fight. These things happen in boxing, it's been a bad year but I can end it on a high by smashing up a good heavyweight and then look forward to fighting for the WBO world cruiserweight title next year." The rest of card at the ExCeL will still go ahead as planned, with two mouth-watering fights lined up. Lightweight Amir Khan will aim to return with a win when he tackles Oisin Fagan, while Martin Rogan and Audley Harrison meet at heavyweight. Derek Chisora, who was supposed to be meeting Ellis in an eight rounder, will still box on the card.
Who is paying for this toilet?
Fingers crossed Enzo gets sparked!

Herbie was making noise and started a mini riot that resulted in Audley's Security (A- Force show) mashing him down with chairs etc.
Herbie is a nutter - but THIS IS LONDON - you can not act the fool like that.
Having said that the security were a bit out of order.. Herbie had to run, as I said - this is not Norwich - the security are men from what the media call 'the streets' - unprofessional of the security really - but Herbie is a hot head....even on a calm day!

I knew about the mini riot, never realised Herbie had to leg it too, must be embarassing for someone like him to need to get away on his toes!

I'm just checking betfair, too- you can get 1.1 (1-10) on Macca to win. That, it has to eb said, seems great value. Not practical, of course, but still good value- IE It is basically saying that Macca has only a 90% chance of winning.
I'd say its more like he has a 99% chance of winning, which would only be 1-100 !

This is threadbare, this card. Just a bunch of SN bullies (I hate to say it, and I hate to see this, as guys like Mac are very capable) keeping things ticking over and getting some Xmas work disguised as a great value PPV event.
At least he's fighting a heavyweight - a nice idea. I love how Warren can criticise Haye's win over Bonin and yet put this on. At least he's not going to be given the WBO cruiser title, ha.
