The Thrilla in Manila:

Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier III (10-01-1975)

R1: 10-9 Ali
R2: 10-9 Frazier
R3: 10-10 Even
R4: 10-9 Ali
R5: 10-9 Frazier
R6: 10-9 Frazier
R7: 10-9 Ali
R8: 10-9 Frazier
R9: 10-10 Even
R10: 10-9 Ali
R11: 10-9 Ali
R12: 10-9 Frazier
R13: 10-9 Ali
R14: 10-9 Ali
Ali wins by retirement

I took the chance this morning to rewatch the fight. That would be 135-133 at the time of the retirement, with Ali up by two points. That is 7-5-2 in rounds. It was 5-5-2 after 12 rounds, with Ali taking both the 13th and the 14th rounds. Slightly closer than I had it the last time I saw it, but still with Frazier down by two rounds at the time of the retirement.

I just watched the WBA Heavyweight Championship fight between Tony Tubbs and Tim Witherspoon again. What a ferocious war. It is a very difficult fight to score and it is very close. My card ended up going to Witherspoon, by a single point, which aligns with the decision, which was a Majority decision in his favor. Had Tubbs just boxed Witherspoon more he would have taken the decision, I think. When he boxed and used his skill, I felt as though he was winning. He ended up narrowly losing this fight coming out the slightly worse in the litany of exchanges in this fight, as the punch stats reflect. This fight kicked off the Heavyweight unification series of ‘86-‘87.

Tony Tubbs vs. Tim Witherspoon (1-17-1986)

R1: 10-9 Tubbs
R2: 10-9 Witherspoon
R3: 10-9 Tubbs
R4: 10-9 Witherspoon
R5: 10-10 Even
R6: 10-9 Tubbs
R7: 10-9 Witherspoon
R8: 10-9 Witherspoon
R9: 10-9 Tubbs
R10: 10-9 Tubbs
R11: 10-10 Even
R12: 10-9 Witherspoon
R13: 10-9 Witherspoon
R14: 10-9 Tubbs
R15: 10-9 Witherspoon

144-143 Witherspoon

One of my all-time favorite fights. The first Ward-Kovalev fight. I just watched it again for the second time. The first time I scored it 115-112 to Ward, but I don’t recall how exactly the rounds broke. I just watched it again and rescored it 114-113 for Ward. Just an epic and brilliant fight.

Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward I (11-19-2016)

R1: 10-9 Ward
R2: 10-8 Kovalev
R3: 10-9 Kovalev
R4: 10-9 Kovalev
R5: 10-9 Kovalev
R6: 10-9 Ward
R7: 10-9 Ward
R8: 10-9 Ward
R9: 10-9 Ward
R10: 10-9 Kovalev
R11: 10-9 Ward
R12: 10-9 Ward

114-113 Ward

R4: 10-9 Clay
R5: 10-9 Liston

Clay wins by retirement after the 6th round
That is how I scored it. Liston won the round where Ali could not see. That was it. The rounds were easy to score. Yet one judge had it even and one had Liston up by three points. Always wondering what people were watching.

Do you have the cards on a rounds basis?

Ali completely outclassed Liston in the first round. The second was close, but I still gave it to Ali. I thought that Ali took the third pretty clearly, with the fourth again being a shade closer, but I gave to Ali on the basis of his combinations and outlanding Liston. Ali just moved in the fifth, as he couldn’t see and the sixth was not close, with Ali cutting Liston up pretty badly.

According to the boxrec database, it was scored on the 10 point must: https://boxrec.com/wiki/index.php/Sonny ... t_meeting)

However, I have always wondered if that is right. Guess it doesn't matter much.

Question for you:

Do you know whether the full fights between Joe Louis and Jersey Joe Walcott have survived? I mean the full fights.

I didn't score it as I watched, but I did watch that one back a while back. It was definitely a lot closer than their rematch was. Duran had a close fight with a little known guy named Jeff Lanas as well.
