No offence, but that's a stupid request. These errors can be told to you by a piece of software. There's no point in anyone putting effort into letting you know about them.

The piece of software you mention is-not-in-place.

The time and effort it took both of you to whine on this

my answer:

Martin Rogan had 306 points after his win against Matt Skelton on 2009-02-28.

He lost 127 points in his first loss and another 50 points in his second loss against Sam Sexton - and then was at 129 points.

After this he defeated 2 boxers, who had only 2 points, and got no further additional points for this.

According to the Boxrec ratings rule of missing opponent quality he lost another 62 points on 2011-05-06, 18 months after missing to fight a boxer of at least 50% of his own rating. His last quality bout was against Sam Sexton on 2009-11-06.

So Martin Rogan is now at 67 points.

This would be an interesting query.

Oldest boxer in each division to win a major championship fight. Just go with WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO.... maybe a second time add IBO to see if it makes a difference.

I have a question regarding the bout rating for Lamont Peterson vs Victor Cayo. It is a 4 star fight according to the boxrec fight schedule. However, per the Bout Star Ratings description, both boxers must have at least 188 points for their fight to be a 4 star, and Victor Cayo currently has 173 points. How so?

If you look at Cayo's record list you can find 173 points after his last bout at welterweight.

But Cayo is ranked #24 at light welterweight, and there this is equivalent to 190 points.

Why did Haye lose 140 rating points before his fight with Klitschko?

He went from 738 post Harrison to 598 pre Wlad. He didn't fight anyone in there, nor did he change division.

Obviously a bit of fine tuning needed, as Haye fought Valuev (top 5) and Ruiz (top 20) and Harrison (top 40) in the last two years. Seems like a harsh penalty. I don't know the details.

Yeah, well, I'd have to say that needs tuning. The way today's world works with most Marquee fighters fighting twice a year (max), means that the combination below will result in an opposition penalty.

Jan 2000 Mega Fight
Okt 2001 Crap Mandatory
Jul 2002 Mega Fight (-ve opposition factor).

I think a better solution would be to take into account, who the fighter is fighting on the night, before activating the penalty. In this case, Haye is being penalised for his opposition despite stepping up to the plate to fight the best fighter available in Wlad. There is clearly something wrong penalising someone for fighting the best. I would suggest distinguishing between the scenarios below.

Jan 2000 vs Fighter A Mega Fight
Okt 2001 vs Fighter B Crap Mandatory
Jul 2002 vs Fighter C Mega Fight (no penalty)

and

Jan 2000 vs Fighter A Mega Fight
Okt 2001 vs Fighter B Crap Mandatory
Jul 2002 vs Fighter D Another crap defence (penalty)

Fighters like Anthony Mundine will be punished for continually fighting sub-standard domestic fighters over long periods of time and fighters like Wlad and Bute won't be punished for fighting whoever's out there, plus what they can get. In Wlad's case, everyone is below him and Bute, because of the Super6 shutout.

I think how it works is.. everyday, an 18 month lookback is performed. If a fighter didn't fight someone within 50% of their current rating, they are penalized up to 50% based on the pre-fight rating of the best opponent.

In other words, if I have 650 points today, and the best opponent in the past 18 months was 300 points (46.1%), I am penalized 3.9%. IMO, this is pretty harsh.. I'd probably only penalize if the best opponent didn't reach 25 or 33%.

So the Klits will be continually penalised unless they fight each other? As the nearest fighter currently is Adamek with 45% of the lower Klitschko. NO algorithm can fit every case, but getting a points penalty for fighter the 3rd best fighter in your division is really odd. Same with Haye, getting penalised for fighting the best.

ComputerRank, are you listening? I think the time frame next to be extended and 50% is really high for Marquee fighters. hard to find opponents that fit that criteria.

I think the percentage being lowered would be a good move. I'm not so sure about the time period being extended, though. I like there being a penalty for fighting rarely. I think 24 months is too kind.

More or less. Look at Wlad's rating from the Peter fight to the Haye fight. After he beat Sam Peter, he was 1497. Prior to fighting Haye, he dropped to 1260. After beating Haye, he rose to 1323. You would have thought he'd be at a lifetime high rating after beating Haye, right? Nope, his rating actually dropped. Which of course would not have happened unless Haye's rating also dropped. But then again, Haye had so many people convinced that he was such a legit bad-ass, and he wasn't even fighting top 25 opponents. If Haye couldn't have even fought some mediocre top 25 fighter like Juan Carlos Gomez, Ray Austin, Dereck Chisora, etc., then he probably wasn't such a great challenger after all.
