Hunter would always have been out of his depth against Booth. He is too one dimensional. I told everybody this beforehand. He also has no heart when the going gets tough, as he has proven many times. Can you imagine Diego Corrales quitting like that? If his quitjobs against Molitor and Booth went down in the US, well we all know what people would be saying...
I could never understand why he was given a chance against Booth. Any slick style of boxer will beat him and always would have. He's just not that good at all and never was.
Facts are facts. He beat some fighters, but when he stepped up he got handled. Pickering, I never really rated. He was purely domestic level and not the best imo.
Quitting like that, "PULL ME OUT! PULL ME OUT!" leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Victor Ortiz got stick for quitting, Witter got stick for quitting etc. So should Hunter.

Hunter was getting the piss beaten out of him, Ortiz and Witter pulled the worst kind of quit job - quitting in a fight they still had a chance of winning - and rightly got slated for it.

Hunter wanted to quit at the end of the previous round mate, when things got a bit tough but he was still in the fight. At least Ortiz and Witter fought through the really rough moments and tried to hang in there. What they did was essentially QUIT too though, don't get me wrong. I just think Hunter should be given at least the same calibre of stick they were getting.Using NEBFs logic we shouldn't criticise Witter or Ortiz for quitting since they were the ones in there and they thought they were only going to take more punishment. Can't have it both ways pal.
Also, Hunter is a KNOWN quitter. I predicted he would quit in the fight once the going got tough.

Never understand why we have to label boxers as quitters, anyone who climbs through the ropes has my respect and once a man has had enough, who knows it better than the fighter himself.
Jesus christ theres days where we have flu and dont get out of the effing bed because of a poxy cold virus and yet the boxing public demands a man gets the life punched out of him just so he is not labelled a quitter.
Every punch from a non puncher was hurting Hunter, he was being beaten up by a smaller man, he was mentally and physically beaten, the man has shown us all enough courage in previous fights (a la Pickering) to know he has balls the size of pomegranites.
There have been enough injuries and death from this game, all we do by labelling fighters as quitters is give someone the incentive to carry on for one last round and perhaps take a telling blow.
Green was already looking at getting Hunter out of there anyway, if it had been a non title 10 rounder either he or Fannan would have got Hunter out before the actual retirement.

From that perspective the likes of Witter and Ortiz or any fighter that quits in the ring can't be criticised.

From my point of view it serves no purpose whatsoever to do that, been ringside for two fights where if perhaps a fighter had taken himself out of the fight, they may not be where they are today.
I don't enjoy seeing someone battered or injured just so people won't label them a quitter.
Boxing to me is about the better man on the night being victorious, Booth was the better man, Hunter was not.
Hunter got up this morning and presumably is fine, his family and mates still have him around in one piece.
You are entitled to your opinion, no problems with that, we shall agree to differ

I have to admit opticald was bang on, I believe Hunter has lost any credibility here.
Just a note, Booth commented that he was starting to blow. Isnt that you stay in the fight, because momentum could shift, your time could come???

That's what I like about Booth. The honesty of the man. He was working very hard. I was surprised when he said that as I thought his stamina was superb. He said he was out of breath but would have gotten his second wind and would have been alright. No need for him to admit that but he did. Class act.

He was starting to blow due to the virus/cold he had the week before, nothing to do with the pace of the fight as someone said his stamina has always been great. But if you mean should he have pulled out because he was starting to blow thats totally different, he had barely taken a worthwhile shot and was clearly on top, Hunter meanwhile was getting beaten up.
I realise I am in a minority on this anyway but its just a view, perhaps I am going soft in my old age.

Agreed.
Despite being smaller, wrinkled and with more losses... Booth dominated Hunter.
Whilst a move up in weight could benefit Hunter, afterall there is only really Appleby, Simpson and Lindsay - i can only foresee more stoppage losses.
During his prime he had momentum and energy rather than skills and power. But now that energy has dried up, Hunter is like a fish out of water.
He's a popular guy, but now needs to turn it in.

I wasnt clear with my point so sorry! If Booth was starting to blow that is another sign that Hunter should have stuck it out, that it may not be getting any worse and his time could come. Boxing history is full of these tales, here one man dominates, shoots his bolt and the other guys comes on top!!!
Just dont think the circumstances were right for Hunter to quit!

unfortunately hunter has been revealed as a heartless bully, quitting when someone dared to hit him back, then quitting again when faced with superior skills from a much smaller man.
if hunter had won i would have taken stick a plenty, but i would have taken my licks, so therefore im prepared and entitled to dish it out.
we were right all along, the mickey hunter of now is not the mickey hunter of old, time to call it quite mickey son, not a bad resume but i think you over achieved due to careful opponent selection over the years.
but thats boxing.
great thread..

We seem to have both misunderstood each other Rocket, my point was that no one knows like the man in there what he has left and how much he has taken, Hunter would not have known Booth was blowing he was too busy crouching over trying not to get hit to the body whilst burying his head in his gloves to avoid the head shots. The man was done, plain and simple. but you are in the majority and me the minority, so perhaps I view this subject wrongly, although its pretty subjective to be honest.

I won't get into the right and wrongs of retiring mid-fight, but a fair few predicted Hunter would lose interest if Booth could mess him about and outclass him, which is what happened.
The last thing Frank Maloney said to Booth prior to the 1st bell was something along the lines of "make him look silly and the fights yours", again, this was close to what took place.
Excellent win for Booth who is getting his form back fight by fight.

i wouldn't have the faintest idea pal. I am not connected to Mick, I have merely been present at all his championship bouts since he beat Frankie De Milo for the WBF belt......a "dodgy" title , but believe me there was absolutely nothing dodgy about Frankie De Milo. I don't know or give a sh*t was his record was but that was a cracker.
As I say however, not connected to Mick myself, the sensible option to retire I'd say!

As Opticald's chief supporter, this is unsurprising, you also have very deep undertones of disrespect. Your luxuriating from the comfort of your laptop comes across less as debate and more as ill-thought out, abusive tripe.
I am only speaking about what I've noticed on this particular thread mind you, as I haven't had cause to remember what you've been like in other threads.

NEBF - this chap is lirva. Don't know how much history you have on here but he shouldn't be allowed on at all - nothing to do with his forceful views on how most of us are 'mugs' and he is the Oracle of Delphi.

this is pretty much what I meant. Hunter had as close to zero chance vs. Booth as you can get. Although like most, I didn't know it beforehand.
I'm still not convinced tho' by Witter's pull-out, I think there was definitely substance to his injury claim IMO.

Hagler would have been absolutely tortured if Hunter had rolled back the years.
I said to Hagler afterwards that had he won (Hunter)...I would have made no campaign against him to p*ss off, as disagreement, even niggle, as long as it's not pointless playground offensiveness, make the forum entertaining. I meant this genuinely....what...you think I need to make sh*t up on an internet forum???
Like me, Hagler does not possess a crystal ball, so like me, he'll call some right and some wrong. Not exactly something to leave the forum over.
He said I could blow on his blue vein sax, and I was licking a*se in retrospect.
Not at all.....I said I fancied Hunter in his one, but in all honesty couldn't be sure. As stated above, calling a fight wrong doesn't embarrass me in the slightest, why the f*ck should it??? Wouldn't be entertainment if we knew the bloody result in advance now would it!
Hagler has retracted the abuse. I abused TonyEvs last week, regrettably, and I retracted that and apologized and Tony was sweet with it. We learn, and move on.
