I'm thinking David might be more Herbie Hide than the list above. I know the Ruski isn't a peak Riddick Bowe or upcoming Vitali Klitschko either but the way Hide got his brain scrambled by their often glancing blows is strong in my mind here.
I really hope I'm wrong - it's possible Haye hits harder than any of the above bar Tyson which could be what gives him a chance but I just can't get over the size thing. I mean the weight difference could be like Haye at Cruiser fighting a Flyweight!!
I can see Haye going down several times but giving some moments of excitement in return before getting stopped in 6/7 rounds.
But I will be holldering for Haye come 9.45pm tomorrow, I'm just being honest!
Hang on a second, though. Is Haye really a small heavyweight??
From memory, Jones was 199lb, Spinks was just a touch over 200lb, Tyson at his peak was 210-215lb, which is about the same as Ali.
Haye, I reckon, will probably come in at 6'3'' and 230lb. I'm not sure that makes him small at all.
He's just fit.
If most heavyweights were as fit as Haye, they'd be around his weight. But they're porkers, so they're not. Of course the Klitschkos are bigger, but that's more a case of them being big heavyweights than Haye being particularly small.
Just my view.

Yeah I see what you mean Carbo, maybe 'small' is not strictly accurate in Haye's case but he is compared to 22st+ Ruski. The same weight difference (and then some) that existed between the aforementioned ring legends (and Herbie Hide) and their opposition will exist between Haye and Valuev so I guess the point I was making is still there.
Some of the pro-Haye guys on here are turning me back towards the London man this afternoon!

Haye I want to win but will he take his punches?

Valuev isnt a big pucher but he is a strong puncher I feel he will tire Haye out and stop him late as Haye will box and move but will tire and Valuev will get to him

Haye needed a few more fights at this level before fighting for world title!

On the Countdown show it said Valuev was 4-1 to win on points that's worth a punt

That's the same disturbing vision I keep getting, one of those seemingly glancing shots landing and Haye is suddenly over. You think was it a slip? And he gets up and the legs are all over the place...
Still, his chin has got to be better than Herbie's right?
At the weigh in he looks like his confidence is through the roof, like he's sure his punches are going to take out the big man, no problem.
I don't think he can last 12 with a guy that size, so going for broke could pay off...who knows. Valuev probably wont have been hit as hard before.
Maybe it's a question of who lands first - probably haye you'd assume, but if Valuev takes it no problems, then he's in big trouble.

My fears for Hayemakers Monster Challenge

Inactivity - Haye has not fought in a whole year ! Its almost like he is making a comeback.

So all of 2009 David Haye has been inactive. And he goes straight into potentially the hardest fight of his life off the back of this inactivity. Add to this the fact the previous year 2008 he only fought twice. The first fight a brief farce easy blowout against a out of his depth Enzo Maccarenelli. The 2nd fight up at heavyweight against a old but still capable Monte Barret. In the Barret fight Haye was gassing and looking a little tired then - as if inactivity was showing - since then he has done zero in a competive fight. Not good. I know Haye has probaly worked hard in the gym but 2 fights in the last 20 months can cause some ring rust.
Inexperience One thing a old and faded Evander Holyfield had in abudance something that David lacks. Haye has had just 22 professional fights. And while he looked too have way too much for the likes of Enzo Maccarenelli against a more seasoned pro like Monte Barret there were signs of greeness about Haye and now he is fighting a 50 + fight ring general.
Stamnia and Endurance Vaulev has got the one thing you need to have to beat David Haye - toughness - look at Hayes 1 pro defeat - Carl Thompson didnt really do anything special - he just had the toughness to weather the early storm and keep the pressure on and just watch the green Haye fall apart. Vaulev might not need anything special here (he does nothing special) apart from being a immovable man moutain that can take a great shot he will just keep the pressure on Haye in a long tough fight until Haye starts to crumble.
Energy sapping It took Haye a awful lot of energy to keep Monte Barret off him - how much energy is it going to take to keep this monster off him. Also I'm sure Haye is going to concetrate on working Vaulevs body early on but when he does start to concetrate on punching his head - getting in range - punching upwards - and getting out of range again is going to be a energy sapping nights work. Haye will be gassing before the half way mark I fear.
Valuevs power He might have gone the distance in his last 5 fights. But he has got the size and strength and power to hurt and stop David Haye. I dont think Haye has a glass chin - like some haters say - but he is a vunerable sort - and I dont think Valuev will bomb Haye out with one shot - but a accumalation of blows will have Haye in some bother. Valuev lacks the speed but as Haye tires - Valuev has the reach and power to start getting to Haye.
German Judges This actually should be the least of Hayes worries because if he is unable to KO Valuev getting through the 12 rounds will be difficult enough. And if it goes to the scorecards - Valuev has already been given the decsion. Even if Haye has knocked him down 5 times.

I think Haye and Adam Booth have made it clear between each other.
Theres no point going into this fight and trying to nick a points win.
Its do or die - they know they got to knock Valuev out.
Haye is going to go for it...............

Looking at the weigh in - Haye looked like he had the edge.
Haye looked in great shape and he had menace about him.
Valuev looked like he was shrinking a bit in body language once he seen Hayes confidence.
Thats just my impression.

How does a 7 stone weight disadvantage translate into having the edge?

Not in physical size
Just in pedigree and body lanugage
I mean a psycoligcal edge

Notorious jinx Derek Bilton has gone for Haye to win on points - and had tagged it as a siver bet. This means not too short of a dead cert...
That is one bet I will be staying away from; this man has a very bad losing record as a tipster.
I am ready to eat humble pie if wrong, and it is not an impossible outcome, but at only 9/5; with David's love of a tear up and suspect chin as well as big punching......
Is there really any value in the bet?
Haye's stamina is so poor he will not go 12 against such a huge opponent. Haye will either expend energy moving or pushing the guy off him. Haye is far to musclebound, for a 12 round championship distance. He has the body of an olympic sprinter, but to go 12 rounds you have to be active for 36 minutes not 10 seconds.
It would be great for Boxing if Haye were to win, and I really am rooting for him, I can see him winning early, but if it goes past 5, I favour Valuev

re size. let's not forget what little edddie chambers did to big, ponderous, limited dimitrenko.
no one doubted chambers' ability, but many felt he gave a gutless performance in previous big fight, v povetkin. he practically gave up in that one, yet he slayed a giant soon after.
if chambers can get in there and do the business, i believe haye can. yes, haye has vulnerabilities. but he also has some big assets, too.
valuev has had many boring nip and tuck fights where he was competing due to size and sometimes perhaps getting benefit of the doubt...hopefully haye's world class abilities, his dynamic speed and power, will be the decider in this one.

It starts on Sky at 8 PM. They're saying the main fight will happen at 9:30, but it's more likely to be after 10.

The Ruiz fight will be on. Not sure about the others. Hopefully Helenius vs Bidenko and Goarge Groves.

I think you are absolutely right. Its an all or nothing situation. The safe route wont be enough to gain the interest of the Klits or the Yanks. Win big with a KO and a fight with at least one of the brothers is almost certain. Lose, and all Hayes talk of glory and being a World champion would be over. To say this is a vital fight for David Haye is really an understatement, he must win and win
big
