Haye wasn't especially active, but Valuev wasn't landing anything. Haye's shots were sharper and more effective.

There's no way to beat Valuev impressively - he's just so big and effective at what he does - it's always going to be nip and tuck. It was a close fight - why do people have to start shouting robbery all the time.
Dirrell was more positive than Haye you muppet

How on earth you had that for valuev, I don't know

Both guys stank for sure.
But how can you give it to a guy on the back foot landing as few shots as the guy coming forward?

I was sat in the pub saying the same thing to my mate; look how many "casuals" turned out to watch, let's be honest, a pretty cack fight - whilst next week I bet not one of them will be watching Cotto-Pacquiao which is almost guaranteed to be a barn-burner. Just imagine if boxing was promoted better and these casuals got to see a great fight....

Two of the hired judges had Haye ahead by four points! That's ridiculous. Even the biased English-speaking announcers were saying it was a draw or a Valuev win. Haye didn't even fight. Basically he just ran away all night. How do you take away a championship belt like that? How come Haye seemed to know he won - and Valuev he lost - before the decision was even announced? I call BULLSHIT. It would be interesting to know what the Russian sporting press has to say about this latest boxing disgrace.

Pre-fight Valuev-Haye got so many non-boxing fans interested in boxing, I'd say most of them are now running away twice as fast as they came in if you know what i mean!

Crap fight, but Haye deserved the 'W'. I had him winning 115-113 - and I was being a little generous to Valuev. Haye will starch Ruiz, then hopefully get it on with the lesser Klit (Wlad).

i honestly had the fight 115-115. the close rounds i gave to valuev as i thought the locally influenced judges would have done. a haye victory was certainly not a robbery, but i understand the judge that had it level.

2 rounds i scored 10-10 and i dont like doing that, there was just so little action.

all in all it was a disappointing fight, but im very very pleased with the result. good for haye, good for britain, and even better for hayemaker promotions, they can now go massive as i said in a post a few days ago.

Haye had to fight that way. It wasn't pretty, but it was effective and I'd rather see those tactics employed and a haye victory, rather than suicidal tactics and a heavy defeat. A great achievement all told, with the size difference and being away from home. Haye's fights with the klitscho's will be totally different affairs

I couldn't give a flying fvck about the casual fan.
I bet the casual fan didn't watch the last 2 Friday Fight Nights, and look what they missed there.

The casual Boxing fan is the equivilant of the glory hunting Man United/Chelsea fan. They have no real feel for the sport and couldn't give a hoot, they just want to be seen following the most popular fight/fighter at the time.
Ricky Hatton was a master at attracting the casual fan.
All they care about is being able to talk about watching the fight or about the latest fight they have been to.

I couldn't care less who this fight has turned off from the game. If they are that willing to give up on it, then fvck em. It's like giving up on foolowing football because United and Chelsea had the audacity to draw 0-0.

little disappointed in tonights fight to say the least!!

Piss poor fight, with very little action for a HW world title fight!!

Just feel a little cheated, yes Haye is the better boxer but i get the feelin that as long as he didn't get KO'd he'd won. The way Booth kept telling him he was winning when he simply wasn't! Goldenboy & King see him as one of the most marketable faces in boxing today ....... whereas Valuev simply isn't!! They can now take Haye to the USA and market him out there having taken a belt from the eastern block & hopefully drum up more interest & money in a Haye v either Klit!!!!

Also feel cheated by Haye as he didn't deliver in what he said he'd do ( i know publicity sells fights) but he didn't deliver ........ then to come out with "i hurt my hand" shout was the ultimate bullshit!!

At least when Roy Jones beat Ruiz he made a fool of him whilst landing punches!!!

Anyway good luck to Haye in the future!!!

I watched the fight with 3 "casuals" and they were all pretty happy with the way things went during the fight and afterwards, when considering the freakish size of Valuev.

I was surprised by the decision but Haye got it and I think he deserved it. I think some have been over critical. Heck it's not like he'll have to face someone like Valuev again. Thank god he shook Valuev up at the end though, he really needed that to happen for the highlight value as much as anything.

Onwards and upwards.

Well I think the size and weight difference determined how this fight turned out. If as Haye said, he had problems with the right hand then I think he fought a blinder. He said he didn't plan on fighting that way but geared himself to being a bit more aggressive - in that case I think things worked out well for him.

I didn't think there was a lot in many of the rounds but I wasn't that intent on picking them out.

I have to admit I thought that Haye would come undone tonight. Afterall he is no prime Evander Holyfield, stepping up with quick feet and the ability to put 4/5 shots together getting out of dodge and waiting for the opportunity to do the same thing again.

But great stuff he has lit up the blue riband weight category of the sport and that can only be good for boxing.

Ah, it's easy to be wise after the event. Haye was 4.2 (16/5) at one point.

i'm more disappointed by message boards than i am in the fight.

for his career, haye just had to get the win. he has been out in the wilderness and he chose the most reliable style to beat his man: by NEGATING valuev. now i am usually a fan of aggressors, but i appreciated what haye did in there. when valuev showed some urgency, cornered haye, haye pulled off some beautiful moves. in a late round, he slipped a shot, countered, pivoted out the corner, then countered again - with same hand. in rds 8 and 9, his punching and movement was so good, that he had valuev floundering, with shots bouncing off his head. look, haye has gone 12 rounds with a heavyweight, which NO ONE believed he could do.

1) dirrell was NOT more positive than haye. dirrell held and ran excessively, got PENALISED for negative tactics (holding, grabbing ropes: "leaning") v froch, and was literally hyperventilating with nerves...haye used smart lateral movement and counterpunching vs an ogre who was insanely bigger, whom he could barely even reach. dirrell was not rewarded for that bizarre performance on the cards (away); haye was rewarded for more purposeful, more fathomable game plan (away also).

2) holyfield did NOT do better v valuev. holyfield threw nothing in the 2nd half. his movement was nice, but unfortunately, the reflexes were not there to throw the shots late on. haye, being fit and young, thankfully could steal the openings, could mix in enough shots - just!

haye isn't going to be better heavyweight than holyfield WAS. but he can make multimillion $ paydays and at very least add more notches to WBA belt. believe me, the offers will be coming in. povetkin? solis? adamek?

if anyone wants to further haye/evander comparisons: wait for haye v ruiz. we saw how old evander struggled vs ruiz. if they fought again, it'd be same, maybe worse, for holy. haye will wipe out ruiz. watch this space. then we will have more balanced analysis on david haye.

I felt Holyfield did more than Haye to beat Valuev but didnt.

I'm pleased for Haye and boxing as there is more exciting fights to come now but Haye should of engaged or even tried to at least four times a round.

When he fights either of the brothers i hope he addopts a more aggresive approach.

The right result for the future of the division though :TU:

Like some others on here i do not think Haye deserved the fight. Exepcted more from him. Both fighters were awful and neither deserved to win. I dont agree with those saying that Haye had to fight that way, no he needed to do more cos in my book his few shots a round were not sufficient to seperate him from Valuev's plodding jab.

The fight was painful to watch.

the german commentators had it for haye, said valuev needed a KO. valuev said haye won it in the last round & was bothered by the movement. haye did what was necessary to win, he acted as though he was winning all the way through, and won decisively on 2 cards - in bloody germany.

haye can look good next time - he can drop his bombs on ruiz who will be there for him. so right now "haye is awful", but once he showcases his power at heavyweight, then he will be "sensational". we have no middle ground, especially the day after the fight!

every valuev fight has been close and boring. valuev has never been hurt, yet haye almost dropped him with a cuffing shot!

like calzaghe and hatton, he's a 2 wreight world champ. the difference is that calzaghe actually beat guys smaller than him up at 175 and that hatton had more trouble with a 147-pounder than haye did with a 300-pounder!

beating a 7 footer will have been a massive learning experience for david haye. i am impressed. he puts himself on the line. he delivers, even away from home. he's got the big prize and tons of publicity. we can whine, but haye is in the driver's seat more than any other man in UK boxing.

We will have to agree to disagree, cos I thought haye was dire. As did the other 10 people I was watching the fight with. It just is not impressive, he ran and ran, and through a couple of shots. Haye has been criticising other HWs for their part in boring matches and then he fights a very negative fight. As said, both fighters were terrible and I do not think he did anywhere near enough to distinguish himself from Valuev, both were crap. And both would lose to Vlad and Vitali.

Ridiculous post. Khan hasn't been exciting in his career? lol. Hayes tactics last night were worse than Khans against Kotelnik yet you will nuthug haye but criticise khan.

ah, a khan-motivated response...don't worry, i fully understand now.

they both beat plodding russians in gfood achievements. they were both effective without being exciting. khan hurt kotelnik to body briefly; haye wobbled a man NEVER hurt before. have gave away ridiculous amounts of size. khan fought the 2nd opponent who was same size as him, the first of whom knocked him cold. haye's is the stronger achievement, p4p. both are big names in UK, which we need.

I had it 114-114 it was a very close fight neither really threw much. Haye was more accurate but didnt throw enough whereas Valuev threw more but didnt land enough, I had a feeling Haye was going to get it. :TU:
