'Our Soldiers' have no business over there, as they did not in Iraq.

Mr Ayling, your sudden bout of patriotism. is a pathetic attempt to garner support for your boss and his organisation, at the expense of innocent ppl, children ffs....You put down Small and try to justify it by turning this into some jingostic theme.

boxingprat lives up to his nickname...

as for the other 'trend' in BN (although its as much a trend as dogs pissing up lamp-posts is) whereby ppl bring up that 'they are lucky to live in a country where they are free to say such things blah blah blah' it seems as if you are allowed to be free to say what you like as long as you only say what they are willing to hear.

So for you people to accuse me of selective quoting and saying I "deliberately sought out negative aspects of the Quran" is a meaningless statement.

So every bit of the Koran is as legitimate as another; and it sits as one standard.

So, if you are stating any part of the Koran as being 'negative; would mean you are saying God's word is negative to a Muslim, and apart from the fact you should be put to death according to many Islamic believers, your argument is absolutely redundant.

Some more Kuranic proclamations:

"Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."

Qur'an 4:34

As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands. It is the reward of their own deeds, an exemplary punishment from Allah. Allah is Mighty, Wise."

Qur'an 5:38

"O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee; and daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated (from Makka) with thee; and any believing woman who dedicates her soul to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;- this only for thee, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives and the captives whom their right hands possess;- in order that there should be no difficulty for thee. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

"Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection."

Qur'an 9:29

ETC ETC
I hate this thread, its giving someone who deserves no acknowledgement the impression that people care what he has to say. One thing though, so far we've seen numerous pretty vile 'verses from the Quaran' quoted on here. I'm not too interested in getting into a major debate but how come eveytime these are brought up they are written off as either non-existent or incorrectly translated? I'm tempted just to read the quran just to see it for myself.

First of all for the unteenth time I am not Mr Ailing ffs. Secondly, Soldiers will be the first to tell you they go whereever the government or Queen sends them. Thats their duty and they are aware of this obligation when they sign up and the possible consequences of doing so. They are brave young men and women who deserve our unconditional support and respect regardless of the political issues surrounding their involvement wherever.

On the same basis of argument, were we wrong to stand up for Poland in 1939? Where we wrong to stand up againt Nazi Germany as they hadn't done anything to us at that point had they? Is prevention not better than cure? Has anyone thought of the outcome if our armed forces didn't protect out land, democracy and lifestyle?

Of course their are casulties of war and that is sad in every way and when women and children and innocent people perish its a terrible tragedy and waste but the fact remains, that these servicemen and women serve their country - that's us, me and you, and their contribution should be respected by all and they did not deserve to be insulted and heckled by Small and his mob upon their return hiome with their families and children watching, simple as that.

Protest to the Politicians if you disagree with the war and our involvement in these troubled zones- fine, I have no problem with that whatsoever. The Armed Forces do not make the decisions, the Politicians do.

However, above all, you must not forget what these Terrorists did in perfectly peaceful cities in London, New York and Washington where many innocent people (some their supoosed Muslim brothers and Sisters) perished in horrific circumstances. These Terrorists were trained in Afghanistan and the facts are that Taliban regime did fornicate all to stop them being trained there. No Soldier would be in Afghanistan if it were not for these Terrorists training and hiding out in the country so sorry, I disagree with your sentiments.

Good Muslims, who outnumber the bad by millions to one I might add, despise these acts and any suggestion that they are being done in their name and it's only the loony few that have brought the world to this mire of violence. In this country, we are a fairly liberal nation
and as such gave Small the opportunity to self publicise himself and offend the majority of the population. If the shoe (or sandal) were on the other foot and an Englishman was protesting in Kabul or the old Baghdad agsint their ways, he'd no doubt be beheaded live on the evening news. British citizens, workers not Soldiers, have been kidnapped and beheaded by these people remember. British citizens have been executed by these loons and this is enough for our forces to go to work.

Is it worth the thousands of lives? Was the Falkands really worth it, the SAS storming the Iranian Embassy? I remember Thatcher saying something like; "Some people may say that these islands (the Falklands) are nothing more than farms and acres of sheep grazing land and not worth a war and we should negotiate with Argentina for a peaceful compromise. They invaded British Soil, they didn't seek negotiation, so remember, as our taskforce sets sail to the South Atlantic, that the Falkland Islanders are our people, British people, they are our farms and it's OUR bloody sheep grazing land."

The bottom line is, if Small didn't want this backlash then he should have stayed away from Barking and not heckled the very people who's job it is to protect us all, including him and his kin.

If he wants to protest there are many ways in which he could have put his point across without causing offence and used his minor celebrity in a decent way. Heckling is not peaceful protest. He chose the method and he alone is responsible for the backlash he has received which I would assume has all but ended his Boxing career.

As a former British champion and minor celebrity he must have been aware he would be seen and his involvement highlighted - yes he's a Boxer, hence the discussion on here - but ultimately he's an idiot who chose to protest and insult people at the most inappropriate time and to the most inappropriate group, all from the safety of a Police corden.

The people are doing their duty, it is not their jobs to question, but to serve and God bless them all I say.

Yes.
Where we wrong to stand up againt Nazi Germany as they hadn't done anything to us at that point had they?
No and they weren't going to either, Hitler never wanted war with Britain, the bloke was an Anglophile ffs he admired Britain.

We as a nation have never recovered from WW2, left with half a million dead and ridiculous amounts of debt. Sometimes we should learn to keep our fcuking noses out of other peoples business no matter what is going on.

Hitler's preference, Jeff, was to leave nations he considered racially pure under a kind of German overlordship, its kindof like the benefits we would have got from being fair-skinned, etc. his preference was not to have to fight the British at all, he just wanted to do the Russians over and take all the land in the east and run Western Europe as a protectorate. i think it's in Mein kampf, certainly in speeches of the late 30s. remember there were quite a few nazi sympathisers in the english upper classes so there were open lines of communiation Nazi Germany - England.

It can be argued that by declaring war Britain inadvertently caused the holocaust of the Jews http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madagascar_Plan

It was envisioned that the Third Reich would win the Battle of Britain and invade and conquer Great Britain in Operation Sea Lion--then the British Fleet could be taken over by Germany and used to transport the Jews to Madagasca

umm, okay, so, this is clearly after the start of the war, and at that point, Britain's declaration of war hadn't precipitated the holocaust... and.. feck it. I call BS on that theory.

I think the plan was signed off by Hitler in 1938, the proposed use of the British fleet was an amendment made to it in 1940.

Various sources from tv, internet, books etc. I've seen far more evidence pointing to Hitlers admiration and even hopes of an alliance with Britain than of him wanting to invade.
What makes you think he would have stopped in france? The guy wanted world domination no?
The threat was massively overstated, the further Nazi Germany's reach grew the harder it was to control, they had huge problems trying to contain resistance groups in France and other occupied lands especially the Balkan regions coupled with catastrophic losses in the USSR(over a quarter of a million German soldiers were slaughtered at Stalingrad alone) it was always going to end up in tears for them. They had the right tactic to invade countries by just smashing the opponents and overwhelming them but they never had a plan B and they couldn't contain the insurgency.
Morally we were right, think of all those who died just because they were jewish?
Morally I do agree but if it's all about morals why aren't we doing the same for people in Burma or Zimbabwe or North Korea who are suffering just as bad albeit on a much smaller scale?

Interesting point John. I've heard about the Madagascar Plan before but never really knew what it was all about until reading the link.

Thatcher chose to go to war to boost her political profile, as she was trailing the SDP-Liberals by quite some distanhce, and also to protect the oil exploration rights than the Falklands afford. Let's not forget, that the Malvinas belonged to Argentina long before they belonged to the UK - I'll give you a clue, which country is nearest to it? The falklands have a strategic importance because of their proximity to the Antarctic, where there are vast oil and mineral deposits that have been untapped to date.

Since when is Heckling not peaceful protest? By whose definition. It may be unpleasant, but it's not illegal, and it's not a criminal act and shouting didn't equate to violence last time I looked up the definition.

Personally James I don't think they should belong to either Britain or Argentina they are too far from either country for any legitimate claim.

I don't think we were aware of oil reserves back then, in fact in the period previously we had mad noises about being happy to let the islands go back to Argentina as they were then seen as an expensive nuisance.
Argentina jumped the gun a bit in grabbing them back as it suited Galtieri to do something jingoistic for some national bonding.
While Thatcher would have probably been happy for a low key changing of hands, politically should could not handle the slap in the face and moreover realised to would make her look good in going to war against easy meeat with an election coming up.

All good healthy debate, but seriously, don't you think enough is enough now. Let's get back to boxing and let Small fade into insignificance.

I and many others were offended by his actions. I think the points been made clear enough.

God Save the Queen and all that. Adios

The quote you give is a fair translation of the verse except that quoting it without the supporting verses it gives the impression that the punishment for theft is cutting both hands when it is only one hand. You are right in correcting the other poster and pointing out that the punishment for theft is cutting a hand. Why such a big deal is made of it, I just don't know. Especially, since this was the exact same punishment for theft at the time before The Quran was revealed anyway. So the Quran was not saying anything new in that verse. The only difference that verse and the supporting teachings of Islam made was that they put certain conditions before such a punishment was implemented. For example a minimum value limit was put on the punishment so that a thief would have to steal something worth more than the minimum limit before a hand was cut off as punishment. I still don't know what that has do with boxing, but I thought I would point it out. I think this thread is done, we've already made our opinions on Small's actions known and that was the original topic.
