I disagree because I think this fight is extending him. If he'd gone in and knocked over some obscure Latvian I'd agree, but while he is obviously outlanding the guy he isn't exactly staggering him. It'll probably give him a kick up the jacksy to work on his power but also it's extended him 8 rounds (assuming it goes the distance.) I expect the standard to step up very slightly to guys who will actually come with a bit of ambition rather than the spoilers and coverers.

It extends him but being extended and not having to deal with someone actually trying to hit you back doesnt teach you much IMO.

I don't think Campbell will ever be ready, good technically, but he has no power and can you see him beating Burns, Crolla, Ormond, Mathews, Coyle, Rees, Buckland, Gethin, Flanagan, Mitchell, Murray, Harrison and Walsh any time in the near future?

It gives him confidence in his own fitness in a proper boxing match tho. To fight someone who's gonna come with ambition in your first 8 fights is unusual and quoting Holyfield or Rigondeaux or one of the other 10 or so guys in history who have won respected titles in their first 8 fights doesn't change that. It's extremely unusual for a boxer to be thrown into a title fight or the like without having gone 8 rounds.

Whilst rare 2 of the Olympians who won gold medals alongside Campbell fought them on debut.

Of the other Olympic champions from 2012, Shiming fought some one who came to fight today, Usyk has fought someone who came to fight and I'd be shocked if Mekhontsev doesn't next time...

It might be unusual but it happens and it should happen if you're an Olympic champion

Who did DeGale fight in his 5th fight? Campbell wasn't fighting his 11th fight this evening.

If it's not so unusual give me 10 Brits in the last 30 years or so who have fought a championship distance fight in their first 8 fights in the way Holyfield and Rigo did.
