There are already several similar threads, but since this is by far the most developed I thought I'd bump it with the fight only a few days away.

To me it seems like a lot of support from the media and posters on various forums has gravitated toward Hopkins in the last few weeks. It's refreshing to see such a mix of opinion and I don't think I've looked forward to a bout more this year. Regardless of who wins, I hope they do so fairly and definitively.

I picked Kovalev to stop Hopkins, but almost went back and changed it. I decided to leave it to what should happen vs what could happen. Ya never know when you are fighting an alien I guess. Imo random blood testing would change all of that though.

Edging toward Bhop by split, have been predicting Kovalev in 6 but I'm giving an almighty flip flop.

Kovalev's chin & defense is suspect, Hopkins has a chance to KO him, a small lucky one. He could take him to school aswell, but he's too old, and Dawson showed everyone, how to beat him. Kovalev will win, either by KO or decision.

Don't think Hopkins will retire though, he lost before & will lose again. He can still fight Stevenson or Brähmer at the age of 50, after losing today. Unless he passes away or gets seriously brain damages, of course.

Just watching the Agnew fight again and I've got a bad feeling Sergey is going to sustain a big cut here.

He cut against Cleverly too, and he hardly got hit at all in that one. The Russian's paper skin is not going to fare well against Hopkins' head. Definitely do not want to see some bullshit NC here.

Kovalev's hits to hard Hopkins cant escape that for 12 rounds. 3rd or 5th round stoppage for the Russian. really hope so to as we need a genuine fighter at this weight, always looks in shape doesn't come in fat or nothing looks like he takes the fight game seriously, and he is an entertainer, he fights.

Gabriel Campillo said it: Kovalev hits hard, but others hit harder. The special thing is, Kovalev is accurate, doesn't waste power & pressures you all the time. Lets see how Kovalev does, if the other guy is moving all the time.

3rd or 5th round? This unknown Agnew went 7 rounds, and countered pretty good at times. Kovalev wins by UD, or late stoppage.

Plan or no plan Hopkins won't beat Kovalev.
What happended to Tyson when he came up agaist fighters he either couldn't hit or couldn't hurt?

I'm sure Kovalev can hurt Hopkins, his power is frightening, but he won't be the first fighter to find out that power is useless if you can't land cleanly.

He did get hit by Clev's head though.

Cuts are one of the main worries for me as a Kovalev fan. I take a bit of solace in the fact that even given BHOP's use of his head it's been a long, long time since he beat anyone on a cut. Obviously a cut need not result in a stoppage to impair a fighter's performance though, so hopefully he copes well with any cut he may sustain.

Kovalev needs to try keeping the distance to avoid cuts, clinching, etc.

Thats the whole fight in a nut shell, if he can stay out of clinches he will not get cut as bad. If he falls into clinches he will get cut from Bernards head rubbing his eye area and Kovalev will probably lose. So he has to as you said keep his distance jab and conditioning being big tool in this and avoid clinches as much as possible. I also think Kovalev's chin is average from what I have seen, and his boxing knowledge not yet on Bernards level. That doesn't mean Kovalev can't win just means he has his strengths and weaknesses like Bernard does.

Opinion from someone who been there and done that not just training fighters to do that:

Go to the 4:06 mark.

The big IF is if Hopkins can take Kovalev into deep waters.

This is such an interesting matchup. I'm a giant Hopkins fan, but I can't pick him tonight.

I see a lot of media members picking Hopkins, but I can decided if they're doing so because they think Hopkins is better or if they're dopes who think Stevenson is better than either of the two guys boxing tonight.

In either case the winner of tonight's fight destroys Stevenson if he'd actually step up to fight the winner.

LOL at the inexperienced Thompson giving his assessment, he only spoke of Kovalev as though all Hopkins does is hold or is incapable of boxing from the outside. We'll see.

The same crooked judges who screwed Hopkins with two losses vs. Taylor when he won the first fight and drew the second?
