Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
The Continuity IRA have this evening said that contrary to reports they were not involved in Friday's attack and the initial claim that they were was bogus.
It really didnt make any sense that the CIRA would be involved.
Isnt it so so interesting that the British media jumped all over this story today, following the mention that a faction of the "IRA" were potentially involved. Obsessed and massively keen to try and bring down the republican movement at every opportunIty.
Now the story has lost its political agenda it will fade away from the mainstream British media.

Really? An apparent revenge attack is top story on the Mail's website currently. I think you're being very naive.liamlion wrote:The Continuity IRA have this evening said that contrary to reports they were not involved in Friday's attack and the initial claim that they were was bogus.

Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
I imagine more will be on the way, although there was expected to be many more after a few connected shootings in Salford at the end of last year and it kind of just trailed off.
Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
But was it on the BBC's 10'o'clock national news tonight after it was apparent that the CIRA had nothing to do with events? Answer: No.SNG wrote:Really? You do know, the Regency story was all over the bbc national 6'o'clock news tonight only because the words IRA had been introduced into the story? By the way, Im not classing "mainstream british media" as websites. Im talking about tv, radio and newspapers.

Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
What do you think the Daily Mail is?
If you think the CIRA ruling themselves out will be the end of this story I say wait and see, although random street shootings don't have the same news allure of what those people did Friday, but this will be an ongoing news story in the British press.
Can you blame them for reporting the alleged admission by the CIRA, I saw the report at work and as shocked, it was massively newsworthy, it's just so happened someone had the press off.

Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
The alleged revenge shooting is the fifth story on the Guardians website, suppose that's not mainstream media either.
Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
You do realise the daily mail has different arms, including its newspaper arm and its separate website arm. The newspaper and website have different editors... The standard of reporting on the mail website is often much more rogue than that which is printed in its national press. Ive had experience of this and have had to write to the editor at the mail online and threaten legal action about an inacurate article.SNG wrote:What do you think the Daily Mail is?

Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
Of course they do, but you're shockingly naive if you disregard online news as not mainstream, more people read the mail on line in a day than they sell newspapers. Online news is mainstream media, if your problem is the mail, fine, look at the guardian, times, independent, I bet they're all running this story, I know the guardian is.liamlion wrote:You do realise the daily mail has different arms, including its newspaper arm and its separate website arm. Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
Not the top story? I wonder what the number 1 story was at 6pm tonight?...SNG wrote:The alleged revenge shooting is the fifth story on the Guardians website, suppose that's not mainstream media either.
Okay mate, well if you think newspaper websites are more mainstream than the bbc national news then fair play...
Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
Had that story broke at six pm given the shooting hadn't happened yet? I imagine not.liamlion wrote:Not the top story? Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
I'd happily take a bet though that more people a day visit online news sites than watch the six o'clock news.
Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
Second story on bbc news site.
Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
I'll rewrite that for you...SNG wrote:Had that story broke at six pm given the shooting hadn't happened yet? I imagine not.liamlion wrote:Not the top story? Not the top story on the guardian website? only 5th? Not particulalry top billing, which you might have expected. Perhaps because its now accepted that the CIRA werent involved and so the whole episode has lost quite a lot of its political and mainstream appeal...
And, i wonder what the top story would have been at 6pm? I bet it was that the CIRA were involved in regency shooting. But i guarantee that on Friday and Saturday and Sunday before the CIRA were even linked to the shootings at the regency, the story wasnt even the lead story on any of the british news websites.
Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
lead story at 6pm when the CIRA were thought to be involved. But no longer top billing now its pretty much accepted that the CIRA werent and arent actually involved...SNG wrote:Second story on bbc news site.
Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
Why would it be? It's news, not olds.
The story developed and had apparently taken quite a politically intriguing turn, why wouldn't they report on it? What point do you think you're making? Of course eventually the story will fade away, that's what happens, last week Zika was going to infect us all, now something else has happened. It's amazing there not still reporting daily on 9/11 isn't it, or JFK.

Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
What did they drop a story when it was proven they'd be had off by someone blagging them, are they supposed to keep reporting that story?liamlion wrote:lead story at 6pm when the CIRA were thought to be involved. Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
Can't see that happening with this lot. Shooting on Friday, Eddie Hutch shot dead tonight then an attempted shooting a few hours later, not even waiting to get revenge.SNG wrote:I imagine more will be on the way, although there was expected to be many more after a few connected shootings in Salford at the end of last year and it kind of just trailed off.

Always the oppressed.... Imagine those dastardly British media types being hostile to a group of terrorists who tried to kill us for 30 years,..
Re: Shots fired at Dublin weigh in
To be fair it's the same in the North. You don't hear a fraction of what goes on in the mainstream media.liamlion wrote:The Continuity IRA have this evening said that contrary to reports they were not involved in Friday's attack and the initial claim that they were was bogus.
