I'm positive he knows he can't win. He was saying only yesterday this isn't a real fight, 'it's half a fight, a quarter of a fight' it's a money grab nothing more nothing less. I'm sure he'll try to win, why wouldn't he? But he knows it's a lost cause save for a lucky punch.TheLeprechaun wrote:Does anyone else think that McGregor actually knows he can't win the fight? He's a smart kid and knows a lot about the sport. He's watched Mayweather growing up im sure. Surely he doesn't actually think he can beat Mayweather?
Getting 100 million quid is more than enough reason to take the fight and play up the hype.

Re: Mayweather v McGregor
I think he's certain he can win but he doesn't care either way. He's nothing at all to lose.
Re: Mayweather v McGregor
From what I saw, he pretty much started with a list of reasons to discredit the outcome of a boxing match (e.g. the gloves are more heavily padded), which doesn't strike me as a sign of super confidence.
Re: Mayweather v McGregor
That's what I saw. Excuses. Which is odd considering he did the calling out and chasing.crusader wrote:From what I saw, he pretty much started with a list of reasons to discredit the outcome of a boxing match (e.g. the gloves are more heavily padded), which doesn't strike me as a sign of super confidence.

It struck me as promoting a fight between two sports. I've never seen a more confident athlete.
Re: Mayweather v McGregor
That was the first I've seen him talk for more than a few lines, and he didn't seem ultra-confident about winning to me.

Re: Mayweather v McGregor
Too each their own. I didn't think Floyd was making excuses saying he's not what he used to be, training is too hard and he doesn't have the legs to move. Just hyping a fight, Conor was doing the same.
Re: Mayweather v McGregor
I think Floyd's comments serve to make people believe that it will be more competitive than it probably will be, and competitiveness is an ingredient of fight appeal. McG, on the other hand, is discrediting the sport in which they will be competing, as if people won't be watching a legit fight. That seems like more of a way to excuse a loss than to promote a boxing match, so quite different IMO...
Re: Mayweather v McGregor
The debate between McGregor and Snr was interesting. He was quite disparaging towards Shane Mosley who'd I'd still fancy to take McGregor to pieces.

Me too, much more interesting fight. Mcgregor might not beat Floyd's Dad. Conor is much funnier in a back and forth, he doesn't rehearse like Floyd did. that was better than the show.
Re: Mayweather v McGregor
Yeah there's no debating who's the better on a stage. Floyd has always come across awkward with that stuff, I remember being at the Manchester leg of the press conferences for Mayweather Hatton and he's just not got the personality for it. He came out in a United shirt (Hatton being a City fan) and was counting money to us (in dollars by the way as our lowest paper note is £5 which is about 8 dollars). He was laughed at.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Me too, much more interesting fight. Mcgregor might not beat Floyd's Dad. That really makes me wish Mayorga was ten years younger. He'd probably agree to your idea of an MMA fight if the boxing went past 6 rounds.
FWIW I don't think Conor is as much confident (internally) as he is good at projecting the image of confidence.

He'd do that now, Mayorga is broke! Three rounds though, Iyou'd think this is the only one that would sell; but Conor is huge. I'd buy McGregor/Sugar Ray Leonard.Counter-puncher wrote:SaadOffTheDeck wrote:McGregor/Mayorga would be glorious.![]()

Re: Mayweather v McGregor
Look, I'm backing Floyd here, but let's look at some facts.
Think about it. What would you do if you knew you were going against one of the GOATs of boxing? You think "feck it, I'm gonna try and smash his head off before he works me out"
Conor is going to come out all guns blazing hoping to land that left hook, which if landed clean, will shake Floyd no doubt about it. Conor does hit hard, and it is not unthinkable with his unorthodox style & long arms that he will land a power shot at some point. Why would you let Floyd get into a rhythm? You just wouldn't because you'd be onto a guaranteed hiding. Conor is going to swarm him and try to catch him cold you just watch. There is no other game plan. He'll never ever outbox Floyd.
There is the very small potential for an early KO. I'll stick £10 on it. Now rather than rip this apart, let's talk about "how" Conor can take his 5% chance of victory. What would you do?

5% is far too high for his chances, but I agree with you entirely. He has to go Hurricane McNeeley. He will try, Mcgregor won't be content to sit back and get picked apart. His only chance is if Floyd steps on his foot and breaks his ankle.

LOL, one of the most courageous attempts I've seen that was by Hurricane McNeely. Knew he hadn't got an absolute prayer of winning the fight and literally came out throwing the kitchen sink at Tyson in round one. He even landed one of the clearest headbutts I've seen. The chap wouldn't stop throwing punches until he was predictably clubbed to the canvas in seconds by Tyson and then starched to the canvas again soon after. Great example of a 100/1 shot throwing the dice. He was clearly told that his only chance was a lucky punch. And for someone who got done in one round, he looked over the moon in the ring after the fight. Actually looked like he was celebrating

It is a farce of a fight and the world tour pressers are becoming a farce but they will earn more than my whole family will in their lifetime so fairplay.
You cannot just go in the ring with a technical master and win using power alone. He wont have the ring acumen that maidana had to work FM rough in the first fight and maidana barely laid a glove on him second half of the fight.
This is like when a fly half in rugby goes over to the states to become an NFL kicker and usually comes back with their tail between their legs.
