Garcia's excellent recovery was nothing at all like Amir Khan
Whilst Khan doesnt recover from his knockdowns - he has taken good punches and not gone down at other times.

My point was Garcia`s chin will let him down in his biggest tests.

Khans chin wasn't as bad as alot of people make it out to be. It wasn't so much that he couldn't take a punch, because he proved against Madaina and on several other occasions he could take a punch. It has more to do with the type of punches Khan got hit with. Those flush shots, while his chin was in the air, while in the middle of a exchange and didn't see it it coming. Those types of punches will knock anyone one out or put them on queer street.

After his chin had been cracked a few times, his punch resistance did noticeably decline. But I still believe it had more to do with the types of punches he got caught with more so than his ability to take a punch. Especially early in his career.

Aside from the Limond & Gomez very early fights; i can't think of him recovering to win from a knock down??

I think I’ve seen it done before but is it possible to have a 10-8 round without a knockdown? If the round is so extremely dominated by one fighter can a judge score it a 10-8 round? Ryan in the 6th was overwhelmingly dominating him.

Since the round 3 he was trying sometimes to catch Campbell's liver, which is a good weapon against a southpaw opponent. Eddie Reynoso in Garcia's corner is a big advantage for him I think.

Yes. A really dominate round can be 10-8.

Yes it's happened, all 3 judges in Khan-Maidana had Maidana winning I think the 9th 10-8 without a kd

Don't think any round of this fight justified it though

Almost certain it was the 10th x2.

They should be encouraged to give MORE 10-10s and MORE 10-8s.

Not like confetti, but...
1) try and give a winner and if you can't 10-10.
2) If one guy clearly wins all of a round with style or damage - give him a 10-8.

alvarado won the title from a fighter who previously knocked him out, andrew cancio

ya, could better capture the difference between close rounds and big rounds, ,rather than pretty much everything being 10-9 unless you drop the guy or batter him

It was the 10th. Had Khan on the brink of annihilation the whole round.

Gonna take this opportunity as a big Maidana fan to kindly remind everyone to watch that fight because it was awesome. Khan and Maidana both gave great performances and overcame tremendous adversity. A rematch years later at 147 would have been phenomenal.

“We could see that possibly happen, when we’re ready, when Ryan is ready, and obviously Ryan is ready to face anybody, that’s never a doubt, but it’s going to be on our terms, on the terms of Ryan Garcia,” Golden Boy Promotions promoter Oscar De La Hoya said to Fighthub when asked if Ryan will be fighting Haney.

“When he’s ready, when he wants to. Every champion out there needs Ryan Garcia, it’s not the other way around.”

^^^

ODLH has made it very clear Ryan Garcia isn't fighting any top Lightweight, anytime soon.

That’s a serious damp towel on the red hot weekend that was Garcia vs Campbell.

Haney does not have the power to hurt Garcia. I stand by that. I think Garcia could press the action and win an ugly fight with Haney.

Is ODLH more afraid of Garcia looking bad in a win or losing a fight?

Or is just holding out til they can sell out Staples Center post-COVID?

Campbell Disgusted With Scorecards in Garcia Bout: 'Bloody Hell, It Was Probably Lose-Lose For Me'

Luke Campbell thought he could hang his hat on the effort he put up against Ryan Garcia in their lightweight fight last Saturday in Dallas, which ended with Campbell succumbing to a seventh-round body shot. But he is having second thoughts after being informed of what the judges scrawled on their scorecards.

“To me to win, I would have had to knock him out to win,” the 33-year-old Campbell told IFL TV shortly after arriving back home in England. “I thought it would be more fair on the scorecards, the scorecards, what I got told, were stupid, because for me it was a very competitive fight. Nothing much in the fight between us both by that point, but what some of those scorecards I was reading were so biased.”

The judges all had the 22-year-old Mexican-American ahead up until the seventh and final round. Rey Danseco had it 58-56, while Mark Lyson and Glenn Feldman had it 58-55, all for Garcia. Nelson and Feldman gave all the rounds to Garcia, except for the second round, the round in which Campbell scored a knockdown with an overhand left. Meanwhile, Danseco gave Campbell the fourth round, in addition to the second. For some reason, Danseco only gave Campbell a 10-9 advantage for round two, the round in which Campbell scored the knockdown.

“Now I’m thinking, bloody hell, it was probably lose-lose for me anyhow because if I had beaten him – which I would have never gotten a points decision anyhow, not with that scorecard – I would have had to knock him out to beat him,” Campbell said.

Campbell (20-4, 16 KOs) believes he would have been screwed even if he had knocked out Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs). The critics, he says, would have downplayed it as an obvious victory. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

“I wouldn’t have got the credit that deserved,” Campbell said. “I would have just beat an Instagram boxer, you know? In winning I would have lost anyhow. I don’t think there was a win-win in that for me whatsoever.”

Still, however embittered he was from the judges' tallies, Campbell was effusive in his praise for Garcia. He admitted that the fight-ending left to the body left him paralyzed and breathless for a good minute after the referee had waved off the bout.

“We all know his left hook is his best shot. He was throwing it to my head and I was blocking it well,” Campbell said. “As he moved I thought he was throwing it to the head but he whipped it and lifted up my ribcage. I stepped back and I couldn’t get my breath. Could not get my breath. I don’t know what to say myself. Couldn’t grab my breath even after the count after at least 60 second after the count. I was still struggling with my breath. That has never happened to me before and that’s one of the things that hurts me the most.”

Welcome to the world of big time big money boxing Luke.

You're right only a knockout would have done. Anything else would be a defeat or a draw at best.

Ask GGG how it works. He's had to find out the hard way too. Many others too.

Did it not occur to you to ask just why you were being given less than 25% chance going in?

Good performance though, you gave the kid a much needed lesson there.

He probably thought, Garcia isn't a big enough star yet for the scorecardsmto favour him heavily..

But heck. Canelo managed to get a 6-6 scorecard agaisnt FMJ, when he won only 2 rounds.

Yeah, but that's how it works.

It will be interesting to see just where Garcia goes from here. Can he really follow in the footsteps of Floyd and Canelo in the way he seems to have been already anointed?

I can't remember whether Mayweather and Canelo had a similar number of doubters at this stage of their careers, but there's no doubting that Garcia is going to be seriously big box office.

It was the same when Ray Leonard turned pro. He was catapulted into the big time overnight whilst other others like Hearns and Hagler had to fight their way up.

Not strictly boxing, more of a marketing thing.
A bit like modern Hollywood with gloves on. Not real acting, more of a marketing thing.
