It looked like Lomachenko was frustrated with Lopez' speed and also he felt Lopez' power, so he was forced to show some respect to those.
Maybe but Lomachenko is experienced and clever enough to know when he's losing rounds and he needs to change things up and take chances, reminded me of Hagler against Leonard, he waited to long to it was a simple case of not throwing punches
He was surprised how skilled and fast Lopez was. He was barely missing counter bombs that loma avoided only with his skills. The speed, timing and fast twitch reflexes were what won this fight.

Loma was getting repeatedly tagged with counters during his rally.

I like Lopez but as a self confessed Loma fanboy I'm gutted he lost, just cant understand why it took him that long to change things up, at the same time Lopez still had a gears to go through himself I imagine

I’m the same. Kept thinking surely this round he’ll step it up and before you know it he’s arguably 6-0 down

Yep, captures my sentiments as well. Even letting the 12th slip away from him was so disappointing given what was at stak. Definitely tarnishes his legacy, which hurts me to say

Same here. Huge loma fanboy and gutted he
Neverr put it on the line earlier. Ultimately he came up a little short against a younger, bigger and now p4p star.

Not sure where he goes now.

Some great fights to be made at lightweight. Davis, haney and garcia could all be future opponents for lopez. :bag:

He didn't let anything go in the 12th, Lopez took that like Mosley/Oscar or bowe/holy. It was impressive he didn't go down.

I don't see any tarnishing of his legacy. The people calling him the greatest ever were inventing their own legacy anyway. Not to mention Lopez isn't done impressing by a long shot. Loma could win a rematch and the whole thing enhance his legacy.

Disappointing fight for the first 6/7 rounds :verysad:

Loma just wasn't firing until the bout was in the 2nd half of the fight !

Lopez proved his confidence was real and was there to fight from the first bell :box:

That said it was still a close fight IMO and I have no problem whatsoever with Lopez winning, but the judge who came up with the 119-109 should be struck off and never be allowed to judge again :shame:

To believe that Loma only won a single round is berserk :brick:

Teddy Atlas - Again what fighters do inside that ring is gallant and Noble. What the judges do outside it is anything but. Tired of saying it, and sick of seeing it. Again I have no problem with fight going to Lopez, he earned it, but Loma did not deserve to hear the scores that wide.

Mike Tyson - Brooklyn was definitely in the house tonight. Lopez is the man to beat. Another Brooklyn champion.

Manny Pacquiao - Congratulations to Teofimo Lopez for an undisputed great performance.

Ryan Garcia - I got my fight against Luke Campbell but I would love to fight Lopez, there is still a lot of unanswered questions in this lightweight division

Eddie Hearn - Just woke up..Lopez wow!!!

Jamel Herring - We’re not going to do this... say what you want about the SCORES, but the RIGHT man won. It was a good fight.

Roman Gonzalez - Congratulations on your great victory, you showed your quality and boxing intelligence. Long live Central America. Blessings

Errol Spence - Thanks Teo congrats!

Enzo Maccarinelli - Lopez was brilliant,I’d like to see it again though. Loma being out for a year at his age especially as his main attributes are supreme distance and timing could’ve played a massive part in his inability to start working before 7rds or Lopez could’ve just have his number

Terence Crawford - I been telling Top Rank for years Teofimo Lopez was ready. Good job young fella we been talking about this day for years

Kell Brook - What a fighter! You did exactly what you told me you were gonna do. Enjoy the moment

Michael Conlan - Just to big and strong!! I thought Loma would be good enough to grind out the win but Teofimo was brilliant tonight. Well deserved champ, youngest four belt champ in history

Must admit I was very disappointed with Lomachenko’s showing, could have been a great fight if he hadn’t started so slow. Scorecards were a joke, but right man won for sure.

I think if Loma had pressed it earlier there’s a good chance he’d have ended up getting stopped.

Speaking as a neutral, I’d be prepared for him to take that risk  But yeah, I definitely think he was surprised by how good Lopez was.

I've just watched it without knowing the outcome and scored it 115-113 for Lopez. I gave Loma R2 and 8-11.

R7 was really tight, with Lopez landing once to the body and showing more activity, but even with a 10-10 I'd still have Lopez winning by a point.

Lomachenko did finally start to let his hands go in the middle rounds and it was him finally edging rounds, showing some angles bringing pressure and I thought he might be able to get thr draw at best but Lopez took the 12th for me, strange fight taking nothing away from Lopez fair play he deserved and got his tactics better, Lomachenko gave that away IMO though, to give away so many rounds is unforgivable at this level, that 119-109 card was an abomination
Lomachenko seemed gun shy to me in the first half of the fight. He's not used to fighting someone who is quicker than he is, and then you add the power on top of that, and he looked a little lost.

Loma respected Lopez’s power to much, which stopped him from letting his hands go even when in range. It was an intriguing fight although not a classic. Lopez is a better boxer than I gave him credit for and completely nullified Lomachenko’s step round to the right (which he normally gets most success from). Would like to see the rematch as think it was a good watch. If Lopez chooses to move on I’d like to see him in with Tank after he makes a deserved easy defence

Not the most exciting fight.
It was bizarre to see Loma posturing for the best part of half the fight without doing anything more than score with the occasional jab ... Lopez wasn`t as good as lots here saying, but he was actually trying to make a fight of it; even though very little from him was actually landing.
It was a difficult fight to score because they missed or hit arms and elbows for most of it.
The rounds that Lomachenko won were clearer than the ones that Lopez won ... and the rounds Lopez won were more a case of him looking busier than actually landing scoring punches.

Not the great fight we were hoping for. Not sure Id watch the rematch.

So Loma not all he was cracked up to be?

Is this the result that finally convinces fans to be a bit more discriminating with the 'ATG', 'GOAT', 'The Best Ever' tags?

Not at all Loma is right up there with what he’s achieved. Let’s not forget he could still make Feather easily. For losing this fight at the back end of his Career against a fresher, bigger, stronger fighter doesn’t do a lot to tarnish his legacy in my eyes, especially if he gets the rematch and wins

Unfortunately I do because of the nature of the defeat - pretty much all the ATGs have been defined by that ability to reach down into the well and find something to turn a fight around, in many respects it's a measure of their greatness. Look at Leonard against Hearns, for example, where the master-boxer found himself being outboxed and found the courage, the spite and the sheer bloody-mindedness to put it all on the line to turn the trajectory of the fight.
It's not about the fact he lost, it's about how he lost. That's what impacts his legacy IMO.

Interesting. What are his great wins? For instance Leonard has Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler. What's Loma's equivalent?

I don't think loma is anywhere near the level of Leonard and hearns and as a fight that's a tall measuring stick.

I was surprised he was outboxed, Lopez is the better fighter. Happens, he was saying loma couldn't fight going backwards and he was right.

But you're missing my point. Many were already regarding him as a candidate for the ATG ranks (and I was certainly of the view he had the potential to be). So judging through that lens, there's no question this has damaged his legacy.

You can say you never viewed him through that lens anyway, which is fine, but you also have to accept yours was a minority view prior to the fight and the majority, including many respected trade figures, regarded him as well on his way to that status.
