British heavyweight veteran targets Kristian Prenga

Veteran UK heavyweight Dave Allen has thrown his name into the hat for a future fight with Kristian Prenga.

The New Jersey-based Albanian twice dropped Anthony Joshua in the first round of their Saudi Arabia shootout on Saturday, but was ultimately knocked out by the English heavyweight in Round 2.

Allen, 27-9-2 (20 KOs), boxes Irishman Thomas Carty on the Croke Park bill on September 6 that will signal the retirement of Katie Taylor, and Allen ticked over on the with a four-round decision victory over Dan Garber last weekend.

“I would be very happy to box Carty and, with a win, I’ll box Prenga, yeah. Carty, then Prenga. What about that?”

Allen was answering questions on his social media, and was then asked his thoughts on Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua following their respective bouts last weekend, with Fury defeating Mariusz Wach and Joshua stopping Prenga, in comparison to the rising heavyweight Moses Itauama.

“Itauma’s on the upward trajectory to the top. AJ’s been at the top, he’s on the way down now and that’s boxing and life,” Allen said. “One guy’s on top, one guy’s on the way down. Itauma, I think, would deal with him pretty sharpish currently, but the best Joshua, we shouldn’t forget how good he was.”

Allen reckoned he had sparred about 500 rounds with Joshua over the years, but he has full faith in what Itauma can do and said he has no interest in facing the 21-year-old contender.

“To be honest, I don’t,” said the 34-year-old Allen. “I couldn’t say he’s the best heavyweight in the world right now, but he could be. In all honesty, he’s just too much for me, too fast, too sharp, too young, too hungry, so no shame in that. He’s very, very good.”

I was in Leeds Saturday afternoon watching a Progress wrestling show and Cartys ring exit was far better than when I saw in Leeds.

I don’t think he’ll blown up too much even in retirement tbh, just seems like one of those guys who always will be around the 20 stone mark unless in a proper camp.

Any hope of a commentary career post retirement is out the window. Badly slurs his words. He's going to be in a horrible state in a few years time.

His metabolism will only get worse with age and he won't adapt to it. He'll be shockingly obese in 10 years.

sometimes I find it easier to lose weight when I'm not training. I don't have the craving to eat everything I see.

It's got bad just in the last 18 months.
Sad because he is quite knowledgeable and also has a great sense of humor.
I'd love to have him replace pretty much anyone except Carl Frampton on the commentary.

Of the current crop of fighters who one could see crossing over into pundit world I think by far the best candidate is Wardley. He speaks really well - good vocabulary, concise and has a nice turn of phrase

I have to say Dave is very partial to hitting guys on the back of the head as he tries to pull out of a clinch.

I know you can argue it’s a bit of a part of the clinching and infighting sometimes but when you go back and look at it he is a very regular offender.

I like listening to Dave and Fabio, but Fabio hasn't finished his career yet.
Another few absolute pastings like DDD gave him and we will see about how concise he is.
