Surely no one can criticise the momentum of his career, and the speed?
10th fight being a 10 round intercontinental title on the road.
17th fight being a 12 round world title.
Sure, it isn't quite Josh Taylor momentum, but in this protected age of guys fighting 20+ knockovers before a title - it's pretty decent.

He was a very good amateur though and turned over at 25 so so they didn't need to feed him ten spoilers and survivors for his first fifteen
And I think he's peaked!!

You could be right. This will be his toughest test. Woodie is a hard worker who wants to win.
I pick this as a 50/50 fight. Most people pick Conlan as the favourite, including the bookies, so I'm probably wrong but it's my opinion.
Re: Michael Conlan vs. Leigh Wood | DAZN - 12 March 2022
Nah I don't really like him.or the whole Barnes Mtk crew
But I don't think he's going to be getting much better than he is now
Not many interesting fights is a good one, think they want him to pick off a title get a few defences and retire
I get ya.
He’s not had any real marque types, he should have been fast tracked a bit better. He’s not old or anything , but he was feeding on guys way below his level for too long.

Agreed. I thought he stayed Amateur too long and has already peaked.
He was absolutely outstanding when he won the Worlds.

Re: Michael Conlan vs. Leigh Wood | DAZN - 12 March 2022
Sheffield’s Kid Galahad pulled out of his comeback fight against American Jorge David Castaneda after suffering a setback during his training camp, The Star understands.
Galahad, who lost his IBF featherweight world title in his first defence against Kiko Martinez in November, had been set to return to the ring at super-featherweight on Saturday to fight for the WBC international silver crown.
But he has since jetted out to Toronto, Canada with stablemate Kell Brook to watch Samuel Vargas’s fight against Przemyslaw Runowski on Sunday.
He will be back out ‘very soon’, however, according to a member of his team.
Welterweight Vargas is looking to bounce back from defeat to Connor Benn – a potential future opponent of Brook, who looks set to fight on after stopping Amir Khan in six rounds last month.
Meanwhile, Doncaster’s Terri Harper, who lost her world title on the same night as Galahad at Sheffield Arena, will make her comeback this weekend.
She has also moved up a weight division and will campaign at lightweight, starting on Saturday in Nottingham on the undercard of former Ingle Gym fighter Leigh Wood’s bout against Irishman Michael Conlan.
Harper said: “I’ve been trying to explain to my Grandma about moving up in weight and she said it’s only five pounds, but that five pounds makes a huge difference.
“I’m just happy to be back and excited to get back out there on Saturday night, show everyone what I’ve been working on.
"This camp was about taking everything back to the drawing board, going back to basics and making slight changes that have been needed to be made for a while.”

Why have they gone to watch Vargas?
They said he's looking to bounce back from the Benn defeat (Possible Brook opponent),
But watching Vargas fight doesn't help that does it?

They’ve been in camp together a few times in the Canaries & Brook’s used him as a sparring partner. Must be mates
Come to think of it. I don’t think this is the first time they’ve gone to see him.
I remember reading about it a while back too.

Fancy Conlan by stoppage in the second half of the fight. Don’t think Wood’s very durable & Conlan will hit him lots & break him down.
Unless Wood has improved drastically since turning 30 then I can’t see how he wins this. All logic points to Xu Can been a lot worse than expected rather than Wood making huge improvements in a short space of time from his performances against Dickens & Mould. I’m also not buying this idea that he’s a puncher.

Surprised how much people back Conlan. Can't say I know a bunch about either and although I know Iv watched cards there on I hardly remember either enough to have an opinion.
Conland hasn't really beat anyone good, seems to be a 122er, not a puncher even at a lower weight and lower level.. must be passing the eye test because I can't see it on his record, amature or pro.

Wood will need a KO to win this rather than rely on the cards imo.
Really good fight, meh undercard and zero buzz all round.

Conlan: Eyes Of World On UK For Bad Judging; Very Hard For It To Happen Again In Wood Fight
“I’m not worried about it, simply because of the fact that happened [recently],” Conlan told BS.com in reference to the Taylor-Catterall controversy. “The eyes of the world are on the UK, where bad judging seems to be happening, at the minute. So, it would be very hard for it to happen again. So, I’m not too bothered by it. But that is out of my control. I control what I can control, and that is myself and my opponent, and that’s what I’ll do exactly.”
“This is the first DAZN show in the UK since [Taylor-Catterall] happened,” Conlan said. “I think there’s been a lot of talk about it the last few weeks, since it happened. That actually benefits me. It’s unfortunate for Jack Catterall, who I believe won by four or five rounds. But it’s to my benefit and this game, it’s a selfish game. I’m selfishly happy in a sense, but I’m still disappointed for him.”

Yeah I agree that Xu Can was not that good. I don't think Conlan has enough power to stop Wood though, unless he dominates the fight and stops via accumulation. I think Conlan via decision.

The four person panel on Bad Left Hook have their predictions 3-1 in favour of Wood.

I think Wood is the better fighter here at this point but the politics of boxing dictate that Conlan should win a close fight. We saw it with Catterall and Taylor and it's an identical set up here. I reckon most of us will have it for Wood if it goes the distance.

yeah, your card isn't going to be at all subjective then is it?

I'll score the fight on here subjectively for sure in the rbr thread as I did for Catterall Taylor. I didn't think Conlan was impressive in the Doheny or Baluta fights. Not sure he even won them if the judging was fair and balanced.

Wood wins the hairstyle battle anyway. That jerry curl hairstyle putting Conlan to shame.
