They cut the first round with over 10 seconds left to save him. Badly badly hurt.

He went down on his own too. The fight should have been stopped at that point.

Stop being wrong.
Lol why did Lerena stop throwing punches when he was one jab away from winning?
Knew his role?

Maybe Lerena was more shocked than anyone when DDD kept on going down!

I remember the shock on the face of Flintoffs opponent when the cricketer went down.

He was so shocked that he never threw another shot............

wba rules say 3 knockdowns = over, but maybe these are out of date or its different for titles. or maybe something else

i dont really expect them to, although would still be interested if lerena's team appeal. this case actually would have merit since if the rule had been enforced it's a clear 1 round knockout. unless they say our rules as written arent really our rules, i dont know how theyd deny that. watch for a stealth edit of their own rules lol

The WBA supervisor for the fight Julio Thyme knows the rule. He has reported on it.

Saldivia Retains WBA Fedelatin Title

Saldivia Retains WBA Fedelatin Title

Another packed house filled the UVI Fitness Center in beautiful St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands to witness Boxing In Paradise II, the second promotion by 340 Promotions, headed up by Lesley Comissiong and boxing impresario Sampson Lewkowicz, in asociation with Warriors Boxing and Arano Box of Argentina. In the main event for the WBA Fedelatin welterweight title, scheduled for eleven rounds, Argentine Hector Saldivia (28-1, 2 KOs) and Indonesian Daudy Bahari.(38-2, 14 KOs) looked on paper to be an evenly matched bout. With a combined 66 wins against 3 losses and 36 knockouts between them, who would have forecast a blowout? Not this writer. With the recent success of Indonesian fighters on U.S. Shores, it seemed Bahari would show his wares as did his countrymen Chris John and Daud Yordan.
But it was not to be. Saldivia stalked while Bahari was on his bicycle, jabbing and moving. All looked good until BOOM! Bahari took a right high on the forehead, his legs crumbling underneath him. He beat the count, but might have thought better of it. Two more flurries and two more knockdowns, all in the same fashion- as if he was shot. The time was 57 seconds of the first round via three knockdown rule. Referee Roberto Ramirez Sr. waved off the slaughter, Saldivia retaining his belt

Wouldnt it be BBBofC rules ?
Dont care for the WBA and noone considers the reg a world title so dont really give a shit about their rules...

Very strange fight... Early bell in the first disgusting. Would assume Dubois' team release a scan of a mangled knee even if its not hurt...

dont sanctioning bodies rules get applied when the fight is for their own title? that has always been my understanding, and then when there is a unification they use the 'unified rules of boxing'. otherwise there is absolutely 0 point in them having any rules about their bouts if they just always use the home boxing authority

not to mention that would make bouts for the same title constantly happen under different rules

Found a recent example where the ref didn’t apply the wba 3 knockdown rules and looks like the result stood.

The 3 knockdown rule is a crap rule anyway, say one’s a boarder line slip, a trip, a push, or off balance and the fighter clear to continue.

they should do away with it entirely or apply it always. in both that case above and this one it was of course the A side boxer who bennefited from it being ignored. if a rule is allowed to be selectively enforced it gives ppl the ability to abuse it

Nice one.

Also, agree. 3 knockdown rule is absolute shite, it never made any sense.

It looked to me like an injury I’ve done myself playing football plenty of times where once you go over on your ankle it hurts a hell of a lot & you can’t put your foot down initially without the pain been excruciating & then after a minute or two of putting weight on it you can attempt to carry on & it gradually gets better whilst exercising but will be a right mess in the morning.

I think this because he didn’t look hurt for the second & third knockdowns, his eyes looked clear & his legs weren’t all over the place like a buzzed fighter. It looked like he was in agony putting weight on his foot & was scared of taking a shot & it going again.

In hindsight he managed the situation perfectly. I don’t know whether it was through choice or no other option but it couldn’t have worked out better.

However I don’t have an explanation for the early finish to the round. Disgraceful

Like this take. Also, the experience against Joyce looked to have helped him through this one. More fighters need to use the canvas as a temporary respite

So cutting through all the crap on this whacky B level slugfest, DDD is caught cold with a temple shot and sent crashing. He recovers right away, but he’s fooked his knee or ankle. The US commentary ( Andre ward and co ) have NO CLUE what’s happened, despite listening in on Shane and DD discussing the injury between rounds …I couldn’t work out what had happened either as I was in a loud pub and couldn’t hear at the time ( thanks for the tip Ben :TU: ). The big man came back superbly in the third with some thudding well-placed bombs and the South African was in La La Land when it was helpfully waved off by the house ref.
He stopped it just before the bell, so not a bad stoppage, but obviously the overall impression with the three knockdowns spells home cooking…

So there we have it, onwards and upwards; I’ll definitely be watching his next fight that’s for sure, though it’ll probably be against a blown up super middleweight. Or Del Boy, god help us.

I didn’t watch the main event abomination and I never will - sounds like the predicted horror show
we all knew was coming.

Well, still not that unreal. He he rushes and lands first, he can do it. A puncher always has a chance, especially against someone, who has shown vulnerabilities.

.....but Fwank's rules take precedence over both.

Rule 1. The referee is there to protect Fwank's fighter, no matter how many times he gets knockeddown.

Rule 2. The referee is to stop the fight as soon as Fwank's fighter lands a few clean shots.
