I’ll bet money he doesn’t get sentenced to any UK prison time. Might not make bail though I guess he’s a flight risk. What a mess :brick:

Somebody offered to take that bet, I should have taken him up on that. :OhYes:

It was me, a lawyer of 25+ years of standing (admittedly not in criminal law) - you should have taken that bet mate!I do pay up.

I'm truly disgusted - the offence requires a clear custodial sentence under the sentencing guidelines,

I'm glad for Bud, it does sound like it was a genuine mistake, but he's VERY VERY lucky to get a suspended sentence. Any of us would be getting a 5 stretch for sure.

Deserved the jail just for the stupidity, it's like us taking a kinder egg to the states, you just wouldn't do it

Good for him that he has had a touch, the time on remand would have been a bitch, but it shows how we are not equal in law.

Any of us would have had a lump behind the door, I don't just don't get how that is within sentencing guidelines

Haha no worries pal, next time ;-)
I guess I’m just much more cynical than most and I’ve seen wealth and status influence the legal process before.
It’s almost certain without his status and money he’d have done a stretch. That’s the world we live in.

let's be honest he was hardly planning to shoot anyone, and no one got shot, I do not see the problem. It's a bit different to some scally in a gang with a gun.

Spot on pal :TU:

I can understand Loynesy’s frustration that a case where the accused was seemingly bang to rights resulted in the sentencing guidelines being ignored but I suppose we weren’t privy to all the facts and in any case they are just guidelines and sometimes circumstances dictate that those guidelines can be overlooked.

But as you say, in the real world Bomac isn’t a threat to society, he isn’t a recidivist who’s gonna go straight back to a life of crime and as I said earlier in the thread (to some mockery by one or two members) he’ll be a guy who contributes positively to his community in one way or another and those factors undoubtedly influenced this decision.

Suppose we can say Common sence , certainly not his  But on behalf of the judge common sence prevailed ,, Can understand Lonesy and anyone else involved in the law getting a bit peeved though , if your in the buisness off law and order it must piss you off when things are not upheld for some but are for others .. Be suprised if he ever gets back in the country though ,

Probably the right punishment, Americans can carry guns legally and with all his travel in the states he’s probably done it many times when flying. Stupid but likely an oversight rather than anything dodgy. What’s more concerning is how it wasn't found when he arrived in the U.K.

Grassed on who? I doubt he knows villains in the UK, and would the British courts have any interest in US crims?

It’s quite extraordinary that he got off with a serious crime simply due to his work in the community. Astonishing really.

He should make a claim against the airlines / airport for letting him into the country in the first place!

There was some talk he arrived on a privately chartered jet. I doubt they have the same level of security, ridiculous as it sounds
