No one but no one can critise Sam for the sheer b*llocks that he showed in this fight.
Have got to say the judge who scored it 114-114 needs shooting

wrong decision, Sam won.
No he didn't.
He won hearts but not the fight.

Baraou very emotional, might have be seriously fearful of getting jobbed on the cards, probably why he was chasing the stoppage like a man possessed.

Madsen looks like John Ryder's less athletic brother.
He'll do well to see the next 2 rounds out.

Have to say I found that quite heartwarming. Clearly meant a lot to the bloke.

baraou vs kelly would be a good matchup, both with wasserman too
despite being clearly beat sam fought pretty well still, think baraou would always have given him problems like this. still interesting fights going forward

rewatched it, Sam lost, I was massively biased. Also watched the chap's interview after when he was in tears at how much it meant to him. Gutted for Sam but well done Abass. And sorry for my blatant blinkered bias.
I still think Audley will become world champ though...

Any day now Sean. I like Abass.hope he fights here again. Him v Kelly would be a lot of fun. Sam fought a brave fight and got stuck in. I just think Abass was fresher. Would like to see Sam win one more and call it a day. Great servant of British boxing.

me too mate. Sam's never a sore loser either. Hope he comes again, if he does want to.
All the best to Abass.

Excellent bout and both played their part to the full
I wish Eggerton had learned to use his jab properly years ago. He's a fighter trapped in a boxer's body !
Sam gave it a great go (as usual) but his punches lacked quality and his jab was poor.
Baraou has some beautiful skills and had every punch in the book. I dare say a touch of the Terrence Crawfords about him.
There were times when I thought if Eggerton plays the long game Baraou might crack in the closing stages, but to his credit Abass held firm.
I loved those exciting toe-to-toe exchanges with neither boxer prepared to concede ground
Hopefully Sam can get some more paydays...such a game fighter deserves everything he can get out of the sport
Good work Channel 5 picking up this cracker
Josh Kelly challenging Baraou for his newly acquired European title on Channel 5 would be a dream matchup

I think Sam is retiring on his own terms.
Jon's post today:
So Saturday Sam Eggington went into the lions den to challenge for the proper European title against the very talented Abbas barou a former multi titled amatuer from Germany.
What more can be said about the Savage
Told he wouldn’t win a midlands title
= perhaps Birmingham’s most decorated fighter ever.
Told his style of fighting wouldn’t last long a year or two at most.
= a 12 year pro career at the highest level with over 43 fights and over half of those being 10 or 12 rounders.
Told his defence wouldn’t take him past novice level before getting knocked out and retired.
= 1 knockdown against him in 43 hard pro fights (he got up to win that as well)
Nobody is that tough. Sams defence is underrated you can’t have 43 fights and only take one count with a poor defence.
Told he was just strong and basic
= goes on to outbox former world champions and top amatuers.
Told to engage more to get the crowd and fans interested.
= never spoke a word of trash or created drama at a presser in his life.
There’s plenty more but you get the ghist of what I’m saying everything that has been said of this kid by commentators “experts” fans and a lot of this boxing industry he just quietly proven wrong time and time again.
A bit more about Sam not only has he won title from area level to world he’s also won the prestigious boxing writers best young boxer and FOTY twice (3 times people are betting on this weekend)
He’s beaten 8 unbeaten fighters more than almost any active champion at the moment.
He’s won in the away corner on a number of occasions.
He’s returned from defeat and being told to retire more times than I can even count. In this age of unbeaten records and social media stars Sam has in the words of Steve Bunce been a throwback fighter and perhaps the last of them. Try and find any real fighter or boxing insider who isn’t a fan of what Eggington does. You won’t find one.
People don’t keep improving and staying positive after there sixth or seventh defeat anymore.
People don’t take on 50/50 fights one after another anymore. People don’t travel to Italy to challenge for titles or Australia to defend titles.
Another throwback attribute and testament to the fighter he is Sam not once blamed his team or looked to change things up after a defeat. He just looked to where he could improve and what we had to fix.
Not many fighters with the same team for 12 years 43 fights and even more importantly 8 defeats.
Fans knew an Eggington fight meant action on a bill and even tho some of the tv channels or promoters didn’t think being fan friendly or exciting was enough to include Eggington on there cards his fight anybody anywhere attitude always meant his loyal fans were getting to see him in action.
Been a model pro never gone out, never not been ready, never turned a fight down.
Sam has never made an excuse about a loss. There have been excuses behind the scenes but his mantra has always been if you take the fight don’t tell people excuses afterwards.
Onto the fight a cracking fight many have said will win fight of the year again.
Sam surprised everyone by outboxing abass early in the fight. The action was relentless and no quarter was asked for or given. As the rounds went on barou freshness and ambition started to tell and for us he edged the fight in the later rounds.
A view shared by boxing news stalwart rob tebbut who had it 115.113
Indeed a member of the other team told us we think Wev got it but if you get it no one can moan.
You get the usual smug critics who listen to the home based commentators and say it was wide.
But anybody who was there watching it properly and not listening to the commentary ( has Sam ever had a commentary that favours him?)
Know this was a close hard brutal fight. Indeed Abbas reaction when he got the decision shown he knew it was close.
Full respect to Abbas he won and deserved it and I hope he goes on to big things as he’s a good fighter and more importantly a really nice lad as is all his team.
As to the future going to sit down with Sam and have a chat but I have a gut feeling that you are not going to see Sam in any more fight of the years or anything like that. He’s given more than most and everything is good now and as a team we want to keep it that way. Too many good fighters have been punched into retirement by young fresh up and comers, really it’s the way of boxing.
So the plan is for the savage to once more stick a middle finger up at all the “experts” and leave boxing on his own terms and in his own style the way his always done things.
God bless them both.

Baraou is a really solid operator. Underrated guy. No shame in losing to him. Eggington vs Josh Kelly would be a good fight. They should look to make that. He's got the beating of Kelly with his short compact inside punches. Kelly won't mind a fight he would probably see as a threading water fight where he can showboat and enjoy himself on the camera for 12 rounds. So I've no doubt he'd take the fight but Sam could definitely upset the apple cart.
