Boxing needs to consolidate weight divisions not add more. We already got 17 weight divisions. I would say that's plenty. As far as the made up Bridgerweight division the WBC created to make more money I don't recognize it either.

I completely agree. You could lose all of the Super/Jr. divisions without missing a thing. All you'd do is make the next weight class either above or below their weight that much deeper by forcing these other talented guys to now compete in it instead.

It also just helps with marketing. It's easier to market a Boxing Champion when he's 1 of about 10 Champions in the World as opposed to 1 of 117 or whatever the f*ck ridiculous amount of various Titleholders they have nowadays.

Most definitely. With fewer weight divisions we get better fights and less confusion.

If you could choose. What would you rather have, one champion in all the current divisions? Or four belts in the traditional eight divisions.

That's a great question. I know it was for Gil but in my opinion both are clearly better than what we have now but if I had to choose I would say the 4 in 8 divisions because you can always still get unification. With only 8 divisions that makes for some great fights.

1 Champion in the current divisions.

On a different note though, even if they started cutting away weight classes. I wouldn't object to them making it 10 weight classes. The Traditional 8 plus you can keep Cruiserweight and Strawweight, and I wouldn't object.

It's all the Super/Jr. weight classes. The in between weight classes that are pointless.

I'd also keep Super Middle. It's a big leap from 160-175.

Agree wholeheartedly.

It's just not needed at all.

Only issue with 1 Champion in 17 divisions is activity. How often will the champ fight? Back in the day when there were less belts the Champions fought more often. Also if the Champion has an injury and is forced to sit out a full year or longer the division wouldn't have a Championship fight. I like unification fights but I guess a Champ could move up to fight a super fight with the Champ above.

The sheer number of people who, in recent days, have cried conspiracy on social networks with the firm belief that Mike Tyson lost on purpose inspired me to write this article: a lighthearted tease aimed at those who, even in adulthood, still believe in superheroes:

Jake Paul, the self proclaimed face of boxing has, having initially said yes, now turned down a shot at Dubois' IBF World Heavyweight title on the grounds that he wants to " continue to disrupt and test the limits of possibilities"

In other words, he has had his bluff called.

Exactly what I've been saying. This dude has no intention on fighting a current world champion. He wants to keep padding his bank account by fighting journeyman, old men or retired mma guys while saying he is eyeing a World Champion to keep the con going.

Nailed it, sir.

Your problem is that you're introducing reason and logic in your article and those people don't understand that.

Excellent article.

Casual fans don't get the difference between hitting bags/mitts and a live person. In the 1990s, causal fans talked about Duran fights like it was still the 1970s. My buddy thought the 1990s version of Foreman could have beaten Ali in Zaire. :witzend:

I'm wondering how the 32 % that participated in the poll as "Mike Tyson by Ko predictors" feel about they're prediction now.

Do most of them think that Mike purposely threw the fight..?

Do most of them think that Mike was told to hold back on his punches..?

I mean, during the first 2 rounds, he's clearly trying to score a knockout punch. It's so obvious.
Anyone who would deny that is clearly stuck in They're own delusional LaLa Land.

It's plain and clearly very simple to see and understand that Mike did in fact empty his stamina tank during those first two rounds, going for broke, as the old saying goes.

He was then about 90% Wiped out by the third round.
Jake could clearly see this, and he felt right to take pity on Old Mike.
If anyone was pulling they're punches in there, it was clearly Jake doing the pulling of the punches thing.

I'd have done the same thing in Jake's shoes, or in a similar scenario to Jake.
He was exercising things of virtue. Things called Mercy, Pity, and proper Righteous based Conscience, or virtuous and honorable morality.
Now then, for Pete's sake, Fight someone who will be a proper challenge for you Jake..!!! :witzend: :box:

I didn't vote, but I was convinced there was an agreement in place, bet on the fight to go the distance and smiled when I won.

I'm not really that interested in a regular 50/50 fight for Jake. He's an average pro who started too late in life to have any real chance of progressing to and winning an actual championship fight. I'm more interesting in the circus freak aspect of the show.
