Eddie Hearn has been Anthony Joshua’s promoter since the Briton turned professional in 2013. He knows what is riding on Saturday’s Saudi Arabia showdown with Kristian Prenga, the huge underdog from Albania.

Firstly, there is Joshua’s entire career. Lose and it is surely over, at least at the highest level. Secondly, the long-awaited Tyson Fury battle is on the line. Lose and that too bites the dust.

Joshua, 29-4 (26 KOs), was last seen in the ring in December and he took his time before landing the fight-ending right hand that shattered Jake Paul’s jaw in the sixth round. Since then, he emerged from a car crash that took the lives of two of his closest friends.

In short, though the 20-1 (20 KOs) Prenga is unfancied and unknown, he represents one of the most important rivals the two-time heavyweight beltholder has thus far faced in his illustrious career.

"AJ is taking this fight very seriously," Hearn told Sky Sports. "Prenga has 20 wins, 20 knockouts, so he can definitely punch.

"Is he at AJ's level? I don't think so, but he's never been at that level, so until he has, you never truly know.

"Prenga was selected to be a good test, a stiff challenge, but someone AJ should beat in style. But heavyweight boxing is heavyweight boxing.”

Heavyweight boxing produced a win for Tyson Fury on Friday. The 37-year-old dominated the shop-worn Mariusz Wach in Thailand before the 46-year-old was pulled out at the end of the seventh round.

Joshua – significantly closer to the end of his career than the start – must now fulfil his side of the bargain.

"Anthony has had a lot to deal with in the last seven months and there will be a few fingers crossed going into this one because of what's at the other end,” Hearn admitted.

"It won't be easy. You've got to take this guy out before he takes you out, and that's what AJ will be intending to do on Saturday.

"Right now, AJ is motivated to continue as long as he can while he feels like he's still got it.

"Every performance will tell us where he's at and Saturday will be no different. We know that if we win on Saturday, he's fighting Tyson Fury in November.

"In our mind, we win that fight and then 2027 is all about trying to recapture that world championship, with the belts quite fragmented now in the sport.

"So, two big assignments lie ahead before the world championship comes, but the way he's talking, the end is not nigh."

On Friday, Joshua weighed in at 251lbs compared to 261.4lbs for Prenga.

Interesting to see the astute Adam booth in the BBC poll saying it’s an intriguing fight, and prenga is an unbeaten kickboxer. Unlike the hopeless DAZN buffoons in the poll, he’s got no dog in this race.

Obviously Matchroom looked at him and deduced he’s got no chance, otherwise there’s no way they pick this guy, not with everybody’s retirement funds on the line.

I suppose watching the surreal sight of kickboxer Rico befuddling the mighty Usyk, makes you think anything is possible really..

Just watched the fight, fix or not I'm not going to travel to Wembley to see a 2 round shoot out.

Personally I do think a fight with Fury will be fun to watch. I think both boxers will go on their arse in the fight. It won't last long but I edge for Fury as it looks like AJ is shot and to be perfectly honest should jack it in.

Long way to travel for me for a few rounds but it will be an epic fight between 2 boxers who should have fought each other 5 years ago.

Should call the fight High Noon because it's who draws first imo.

Both of them are shot to bits - its difficult to say who is worse at this stage.

Fury was accidentally wobbled during a very light sparring session with his old mate - AJ almost KO`d by his opponent.

Whilst Fury isn`t a KO puncher, he does probably hit hard enough to KO this version of AJ - and of course this version of Fury is much easier to hit and own chin wouldn`t have stood up to an AJ right hand at any time of his career.

I cant predict a winner now. Both guys are shells of even where they were just 3 years ago. Its longer past the sell by date than even Khan vs Brook.

Joshua was about six months younger than Wladimir Klitschko was when “Dr. Steelhammer” defended his IBF and WBO world titles against David Haye in 2011.

Klitschko, the Ukrainian Hall of Famer, kept fighting until he was 41. Over those remaining six years of his career, he had 11 world title fights and won nine, beating Haye, Mormeck, Thompson, Wach, Pianeta, Povetkin, Leapai, Pulev, and Jennings.

So, if Joshua and Klitschko had fought when they were both 34, it would likely have been a huge mismatch, with Wladimir dominating a very one-sided fight.

Everyone's prime is different

Joshua got Klitschko at the right time. And even then he nearly got knocked out by the 40+ rust addled version.

I hated Wladimir with a passion but if he'd been a few years younger he'd have chinned Joshua any round he wanted.
