2008 WBHOF Presidents Dinner
Carlos Ortiz, John Bardelli and Cleo Klizer.

In background, Gil King whispers in Dan Hanley's ear . . .
"They robbed me of everything, can you believe that?"

I don't know how Dan answered Gil, but I'd have to say . . . "Yeah."

Hey Frank do you know of "Danny" Perez he fought in California in the mid 50's? His nephew is a good friend of mine and he was telling me about his Uncle Danny the fighter. He held the California State Title, can't remember the weight class.

Hmmmm?? Ok, I will ask my buddy again when he comes over this afternoon. Maybe I misunderstood him.

Did you see Darchinyon get beat last night? I recorded it but have yet to watch it. Heard he got busted up pretty good.

I did see Vic D fight, it was not a great fight to watch.

Re, Danny Perez, as you can see on his record, none of his fights are recorded as Cal. title fights, no, I don't think he won a state title.

Rene . . . One thing I can tell you about Danny Perez, is that in his last pro fight he was stopped at the Olympic Auditorium.
He lost by TKO to an unbeaten middleweight, Bob Conrad.

Bob Conrad is actor Robert Conrad, of "Hawaiian Eye" and "The Wild, Wild West" TV series.
A little historical triva for your friend regarding Danny Perez.

Thanks Frank, I will sure let my friend know about his uncle. My friend was a big fan of his uncle and attended many of his fights.

Unfortunately, Danny Perez is now suffering from Parkinsons and Altzheimers disease.

As a non-Chicano (and, thus, one who cannot handle really spicy food), I would recommend that you start out with something basic. Enchiladas and tamales as the main dish, with rice and refried beans on the side. Maybe some tortillas with guacamole dip. I like iced tea (non-sweetened) as my drink to go with the meal.

However, I doubt what you'll be eating is really Mexican food. In my experience, the only place to get real Mexican food is Mexico (obviously), California, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado. The stuff I've tried to eat in Las Vegas tasted like the same crap they pass off as Mexican food in St. Louis and Chicago.

N.B.: I didn't see Frank's message when I wrote this. Get anything Frank recommends - he's the real expert. Hard tacos are great!!

Brian,

When I'm eating pollo en mole, I don't use a knife and fork, I like my mole and pollo with just rice, I scoop the pollo, rice and mole with tortillas, Mexican style, only way to go with most Mexican food.

Years ago, I worked in construction as a laborer.
I worked on many crews with mexicans. Man those guys were bulls. Could go all day. I hung with them though.
I made alot of friends and we really got along great.
But one thing that those guys could do that I couldnt was, eat spicy mexican food at 6am!
For me , I would be munchin on a roll or something and these guys would be shoveling it in.
Good times though.

Frank, I'm the same way. Gotta have the rice with the Mole. The rice just soaks up all that good Mole sauce. I scoop it up the same way.
