Brilliant.
I've been away for a few days and you, good Sir, have made me smile. You've wrapped up everything I love about Boxrec into one sentence, thank you.
Just curious as to why the sudden change in the cruiserwt rankings dropping Hernandez and raising Huck and Jones. Also, considering his poor performance against a virtual unknown, why is Chambers ranked so high?

Hernandez went 18 months without beating a "quality opponent" and has been docked points because of it.
Chambers took his Heavyweight points down to Cruiserweight..
Although on Hernandez, I've got to say.. the drop doesn't appear to be warranted... I wonder if the quality opposition penalty should consider the current rating of the past opponent rather than the past rating of the past opponent. If this is/was the case, I don't think he would've dropped.

In reality, he definitely was, but in figures, he wasn't. His inactivity and poor recent opposition meant his rating was low when Hernandez fought him.

Why did his ranking just recently change because of this? His first first fight with Cunningham was well over 18 months ago (about 20) and the second was well inside of 18 months ago (about 16)... so his opponents in the last 18 months have been Cunningham and Ross as was the case last week when he was ranked #1.

Cunningham II was about 18 months ago... almost to the day, right?

Could I get a list of the top 25 contenders at 140 as of May 14, 2012, please?
And if it's not too much trouble to do all at once, could I make the same request regarding the following dates, as well?
October 10, 2011
March 19, 2012
October 8, 2012
March 25, 2013
April 22, 2013
If it's easier, for the dates that are close together like March and April '13 and March and May '12, the top 25 as of the older date, and a list of new additions to the later one would suffice for my purposes.
Thanks very much!
What is the time frame for a "recent win" in the calculation?
A year? Two years? Etc.?
Recent wins regarding the launch state may no be interrupted by draws or losses against opponents with lower launch state - otherwise the launch state will be reduced. There is no time limit.
The fact that there is an explanation and that the ratings are calculated by computer doesn't make it right. Software which does calculations was written by people and has obvious drawbacks. Chavez Jr who haven't ever fought a light heavyweight shows as #6 in that weight category above Jean Pascal. This is ridiculous. Fights in lower weight categories should not be counted the same way as fights in a current category.

If you think you can improve the accuracy of the algorithm please let us know

Unlikely if his calculations are going to include 173lbs not being Light heavyweight.

Chavez and Vera fought at light heavy 3 days ago, so there's that.
If a system produces crappy results like Chavez Jr being above Dawson and Pascal, then instead of finding explanations, it would be better to find solutions.

It is better to offer a solution than to criticise the current system.
One of possible solutions is to use only a certain percentage of points earned in lower weight categories when calculating rating in a higher category.
