You've answered your own question there you fool. So should a ref step in when a fighter isn't hurt (cuts etc aside)? Enzo was hit with a few clean punches that clearly rocked his head and he had no intention of firing back as the long delay proved when the Legend that is IJL stepped in. Manfredo got slapped to fvck and was still moving when stopped and was in no danger.
Manfredo was stuck on the ropes and being banged over the top of them. He did not land a punch in the whole round and threw about 3. Enzo had stunned McKenzie with a left uppercut at the end of a 3-punch combination TWO SECONDS (yes there is a clock on the screen) before the ref stepped in from the very position he was standing in, so to say he had no intention of firing back is ridiculous.

I have been trying to put together the bouts which have been controversial which IJL has been a ref or judge. Be interesting to see everyone's opinions on these. I would like to do the same for other refs and see how they compare. Referring is a hard job but there seems to be so many blatant mistakes lately that after 20 years of following the sport since I was 7 I am beginning to lose interest.:

OVILL MCKENZIE WRSF2 ENZO MACCRINELLI - VERY EARLY STOPPAGE

COLIN LYNES WPTS12 LEE PURDY - SCORED FIGHT A DRAW. MOST THOUGHT LYNES A CLEAR WINNER

VITALI KLITSCHKO WPTS12 SHANNON BRIGGS - LET BRIGGS TAKE A POUNDING

KERRY HOPE WPTS10 TONY HILL - SCORED FIGHT A DRAW. MOST THOUGHT HOPE A CLEAR WINNER.

JOE AINSCOUGH WPTS3 WAYNE REED - SCORED 30-28 AINSCOUGH EVEN THOUGH HE HAD BEEN DECKED.

STEPHEN SMITH WPTS12 JOHN SIMPSON - SCORED FOR SMITH BY 4 ROUNDS. MOST THOUGHT SIMPSON HAD WON.

SHINNY BAYAAR DPTS12 ASHLEY SEXTON - SCORED A DRAW. MOST THOUGH BAAYAR WON BY A FEW ROUNDS.

MATTHEW MARSH WPTS12 ROCKY DEAN - SCORED A DRAW. MOST THOUGHT MARSH WON BY A FEW ROUNDS.

MATT SKELTON WPTS12 MICHAEL SPROTT - SCORED A DRAW. MOST THOUGHT SKELTO WAS A CLEAR WINNER.

DEMARCUS CORLEY WRSF10 PAUL MCLOSKEY - STOPPAGE IN MY OPINION IS BORDERLINE BUT IT SEEMS TO TAKE FOREVER FOR THE FIGHT TO BE WAVED OFF. IT IS UNCLEAR WHAT HE IS DOING AND CORLEY LOOKS CONFUSED AND ALMOST GOES IN FOR ANOTHER SHOT.

KRESHNIK QATO WPTS6 TERRY CARRUTHERS - MOST THOUGHT CARRUTHERS WON

BERNARD HOPKINS WPTS12 JEAN PASCAL - MISSED KNOCKDOWNS AGAINST PASCAL

TOM DALLAS WPTS8 ZACK PAGE - MOST THOUGHT PAGE WON HANDILY

CARL JOHANNESON WRSF4 BILLY CORCORAN - NO PROBLEM WITH STOPPAGE BUT AGAIN IT SEEMS TO TAKE AGES FOR IT TO ACTUALLY BE WAVED OFF.

LEE COOK DPTS4 BUSTER DENNIS - DENNIS WAS WIINING FAIRLY EASY AND HAD A CONTROVERSIAL KNOCK DOWN SCORED AGAINST HIM

MARC CALLAGHAN WPTS10 IAN NAPA - MOST THOUGHT NAPA WAS A CLEAR WINNER

You omitted the part where Ovil hit him a few times after Enzo landed but it's hard to see with rose tinted glasses sometimes I suppose.

Hey, I'm ridiculous and talk bullshit. I think you talk Bollocks and are biased. I know who was in more danger of getting hurt. Let's just agree to disagree.

Don't forget Matt Skelton v Gifford Shillingford.

Most people's eyes were agog when IJL waved them onto box again after the first knockdown as Shillingford was rocking all over the place like Elvis Presley.

This was a bad stoppage for sure but to be fair to IJL I have seen worse. I do wonder whether Lewis had in his mind Enzos recent record and this added to his rather trigger happy attitude, basically was he worried about Enzo getting hurt in there.

Its the boards job to decide to stop enzo taking punishment BEFORE he takes it, its the referees job to decide to stop enzo taking anymore punishment AFTER he has taken some!... lets not get the two roles confused.

I actually met Terry O'Conner at the Froch v Rybacki fight and asked him why he stopped the Calzaghe vManfredo fight (a show I was at) and he said he understood the controversy over the stoppage but he sawManfredo's eyes completely go after a couple of Calzaghe shots during the flurry and as he wasn't punching back he felt he had no choice. He said the referees are always pressured to stop things as soon as they sense a guy is "gone" as the consequences of not doing so outweigh the consequences of doing so. Still think it was a poor stoppage myself but I can see why a referee would not want to take any chances.

The irony given that O'Connor later allowed Amir Khan to continue after his first knockdown against Prescott after he was completely gone.

Terrible decision with Khan, I don't know how much more unready Khan could have looked, legs were gone, balance was gone, eyes were gone.
Ppv prob decided that.

Also when Danny Williams was totally out on his feet in 5th round of his British title defence against Big Bad John McDermott, Terry O'Connor allowed him to get punched around even knowing his fragile state and decline, be consistent that's what we ask. Oh yh I forgot, the same 3 referees (Ian Jon-Lewis, Mark Green & Terry O'connor) are always consistent, consistently f*cking poor :TU: Take there A* badges off them.

It will only be a matter of time before fighters will refuse to have IJL as a ref for their fights.

If you watch that final five punch flurry in slow mo, at the point IJL stepped in, it looked like Enzo was going to be target practice and become a human bobble doll but it was obvious that as soon as he stopped, he looked (and acted) just fine.
