For every one you name you can also find someone else who thought Calzaghe won. It doesn't matter what you or me think though because in the history books it's a Calzaghe win and forever will be one. You don't have to like it just like I don't like Floyd Mayweather's win over Jose Luis Castillo in their first fight.

Joe Calzaghe hasn't fought since 2008. Nobody gives a damn about Joe Calzaghe any more except some delusional types who think he beat murderer's row defending that WBO strap for umpteen years. This fight means as much for his legacy as it does Segundo Mercado's, Jean Pascal's, Jermain Taylor's, or Chad Dawson's, which is none. The win adds to exactly one person's legacy, which is B-Hop. Not for someone who retired back when Shumenov was still fighting at go-kart tracks.

It was a simple comment that he did a good job of not fighting Hopkins' fight, which so many of Hopkins' opponents, including Shumenov have done. Then someone brought up the unrelated point of the knockdown, and that's how the banter started. If you think that is somehow 'telling', good for you.

Maybe Hopkins' recent success shouldn't add to Joe's legacy, but I think it's debatable.

It is debatable within reason. At some point, it turns into self parody, which is what the thread on the Current Scene board is. Nobody is gonna stand up and honestly argue that Winky Wright beating Trinidad, Mosley, and drawing with Taylor seriously improved Harry Simon's legacy nor should they.

I don't think they'd argue because Simon isn't a high profile fighter who gets discussed much. If they were to evaluate his career though, I wouldn't be surprised if many people rated him more highly after Wright had those performances.

The initial comment in this thread was just related to one Calzaghe fight anyway; it didn't imply that tonight's fight greatly boosted his legacy.
