the articles from the Irish newspapers really interested me, in the sense that their Crime reporting seems much more in-depth than UK media, goes into more detail on who's who and who does what, than I would expect from papers over here. anyone else think that?

Yes, I thought that too. Give names and details or organisations and their 'work' even when the criminals are on bail and/or not yet proven to be neer-do-wells + give their journalists' names.

Brave, maybe a bit dodgy too. Here you might have to worry about legal comebacks or fight injunctions or consider libels/slanders, but there is a history of journalists and others being done in over in Ireland. Even if in the past it would give me pause for thought. But good on them.

Yeah makes me think of Veronica Guerin (think that is the spelling) she was extremely brave and payed with her life for it.
