Re: Leo Santa Cruz (c) vs. Carl Frampton - July 30th 2016
Excellent win for Frampton and an excellent fight all round, loads of action from the start and plenty effort from both guys,i had it 114-114 but there was a fair few close rounds which could have went either way,TBH i thought Santa Cruz would have got it on the cards seeing as there were a few rounds up for debate,Leo wasnt his usual frantic self but he was still busier than most fighters,Frampton looked sharp especially with the left hook counters and wobbled Leo in the 2nd but Santa Cruz grew into as Frampton's workrate dipped a little, superb action throughout though and i had Carl taking the last to salvage a draw on my card, although that was a toe to toe round as well
Delighted that Frampton got it though buzzing for him, what a night

Thought Frampton boxed really well, especially early on, he almost let Santa Cruz back into the fight, but fortunately the judges went for his cleaner work, I worried he was letting it slip away.
Re: Leo Santa Cruz (c) vs. Carl Frampton - July 30th 2016
I really liked the way Frampton stayed in tenpocket on a lot of the exchanges but didn't smuther his work, still had head and foot movement with quality chopping hooks and upper cuts. Very very good inside fighting.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Thought Frampton boxed really well, especially early on, he almost let Santa Cruz back into the fight, but fortunately the judges went for his cleaner work, I worried he was letting it slip away.

Well done Frampton!
I didn't note my scores down but after the last round I was thinking draw at best with Frampton being the away fighter. Soon as heard the first 116-112 and then 117-111, I was thinking LSC must have it.
Truly a great fight and enjoyed every minute of it.
Anyone else's BN mess up last night? I set record but it didn't record and had to record the 10am showing.

Great fight, Frampton has got some balls on him. Think LSC deserves a rematch, it would be great event in Belfast.

He improved through the fight but I thought Frampton just did enough with cleaner scoring punches in enough rounds to take it 7-5 (6-5-1 if I called a tight, slight Frampton round a draw).
I thought the commentary on allegedly was strange as I didn't fully agree with them towards the end, they seemed to only be looking for Santa Cruz's work in the last few rounds when I saw Frampton still holding his own.
I can actually see how one judge got it 116-112 as I could easily have gone there with more generous scoring, but I held myself back to try and take the bias out of my judging and still wound up with Frampton.
The support Frampton got from the crowd was obviously helpful, but I genuinely think he was the better, stronger and cleaner landing boxer last night.

I'm a genius.
I picked DRAW in the poll and one of the judges scored it a draw![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

I'm gonna watch it again shortly but I gave Frampton the last round as well. I'm sure Barry Jones said it was a clear LSC round? Could be wrong. The commentating was a bit off putting at times. Wee Barry must be touting himself as Jim Watts replacementhandsofstone wrote:Excellent win for Frampton and an excellent fight all round, loads of action from the start and plenty effort from both guys,i had it 114-114 but there was a fair few close rounds which could have went either way,TBH i thought Santa Cruz would have got it on the cards seeing as there were a few rounds up for debate,Leo wasnt his usual frantic self but he was still busier than most fighters,Frampton looked sharp especially with the left hook counters and wobbled Leo in the 2nd but Santa Cruz grew into as Frampton's workrate dipped a little, superb action throughout though and i had Carl taking the last to salvage a draw on my card, although that was a toe to toe round as well

There was a rematch clause in the contract apparently, despite what Mcguigan said after the fight.
Re: Leo Santa Cruz (c) vs. Carl Frampton - July 30th 2016
Had that 7-5 for Carl Frampton, though I could see a draw or 7-5 the other way. He made LSC miss badly for most of the first half of the fight and landed much the sharper shots, although LSC zeroed in on him gradually over the course of the second half of the fight as Frampton's footwork slowed down and his defence became more porous.
Re: Leo Santa Cruz (c) vs. Carl Frampton - July 30th 2016
116-114 Frampton
I'd like to see Frampton vs Selby next, but the rematch would be very good as well.

I thought Frampton won the fight in the 2nd round. Huge moment when he rocked LSC to his boots. That changed LSC's gameplan entirely and he was never going to be throwing 100 punches per round. In hindsight, due to LSCs reputation, an opponent just had to shut him down and lower his punch output to make it look like he was outboxing him. Frampton did very well, he looks like a very hard guy to beat.

Terrific fight and if anyone's not watched it - go seek it out.

I must admit that I backed Quigg to win their fight, but massive respect to Frampton (and also I have to begrudgingly say to the McGuigans) for the path they chose and their success.
An Irish fighter putting on a performance like that against a top opponent in New York can only open doors for future great fights.

You're list is due tomorrow. Where does this win place Frampton in the P4P rankings?Horse wrote:116-114 Frampton

Well done Frampton I had it a draw myself but wouldn't argue either way, I think Carl has a great boxing brain but his stamina is his weakness at top level

Re: Leo Santa Cruz (c) vs. Carl Frampton - July 30th 2016
I wouldn't have argued with the fight going either way, it depended whether you counted LSC's volume more, or the quality of Frampton's shots.
I think a draw would have been fair, thought the scorecards were a little bizzare, but great little fight.
Love to see a rematch, think Frampton has the tools to win a bit easier second time around.
