Rock-em sock-em robots came to life, as Adam Kownacki and Chris Arreola combined to land a CompuBox heavyweight record 667 punches and combined to throw a CompuBox heavyweight record 2172 punches.

The previous combined record for landed was 650 by David Izon & David Tua. The previous record for combined thrown was 1730 by Ike Ibeabuchi & David Tua.

Kownacki landed an avg. of 31 of 87 punches per round, while Arreola landed an avg. of 25 of 94 punches per round. The CompuBox heavyweight avg. is 15 landed/45 thrown per round.

Wow. Arreola broke his right hand early in the fight and still didn’t stop throwing it.

I think that he hurt his left hand too. Towards the end he was throwing waaaay more rights than lefts. Early on his lefthook was his best shot.

Clearly, it wasn't bad, because he kept throwing both hands with power in them. When a hand is really broken, you can see a fighter basically not throwing anything meaningful with that hand.

Severity of hand injuries obviously vary, as do individuals’ abilities to deal with pain. Arreola could have folded the tent. Instead he fought through it and finished stronger than Kow.

For such huge, pudgy heavyweights, both Adam Kownacki and Chris Arreola threw and land a huge number of punches, resulting in a terrific bout. I wonder if being much more svelte would help Kownacki more in future bouts. As it is, his stamina and work rate are among his best assets right now. He is one of the few current heavyweights who is a true "action fighter."

Yeah, if it's just a hairline crack or busted knuckle even, it can tend to get numb after a round or two, but it hurts like a bitch that several minutes right after.

I even played a hockey semi-final the day after a boxers fracture. Though honestly, that was painful when striking the ball and I was quite happy to be subbed before the end.

Once Wilder KTFO's Kownacki, he'll be forgotten and will start losing more, like Szpilka.

I will give PBC this though, for their HWs they keep their careers going even after losses, mainly by matching them vs each other lol

I think it is a deliberately business strategy by Haymon. He keeps Wilder's title fights in house where possible. He pushes a PBC fighter up the rankings by making fights within the stable in so far as they are on the cusp of being a legitimate challenger to Wilder. Wilder then gets an easy defence.

Then even after losing to Wilder, they themselves become a name to beat on the way up for the next PBC fighter to get their own title shot. Rinse and repeat.

I suspect it is partly the same reason Fury is fighting these C-class opposition with undefeated records. After sharing a ring with Fury they become a name in their own right and it makes it easier for them to enter the circuit as future gate keepers or journey men.

Indeed, I always liked Arreola. The fact he was a world title challenger flatters though, he was never that talented but always good action. He exposed Kownacki at the weekend, that guy is going nowhere.

I have also always liked him; just a journeyman level guy who managed to make a decent living at it. I will go out of my way to watch his next fight (if there is one).
