Warren Says Fury-Wilder II PPV Tag Will Likely Be £24.95 For BT Viewers

It seems we UK fight fans have seen the last of a £19.95 price tag attached to a big fight; with the fee increased to a standard £24.95. Back in December, the big Andy Ruiz-Anthony Joshua rematch was charged at the increased price, and now allegedly says it’s very likely the upcoming February 22 return fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will be priced at £24.95.

To go out on BT Sports in the UK (at approx 5 a.m, so hardly prime time), the rematch of the dramatic December 2018 battle between the WBC champ and the proud claimant of the lineal crown will likely pull in good viewing numbers, even with the demand for an extra fiver. The price increase didn’t hurt Ruiz-Joshua II; instead the fight pulled in a reported 1.6 million buys on Sky Sports.

So how many UK fans will pay £24.95 to stay up until the wee hours to watch Wilder and Fury attempt to settle their unfinished business? Warren argues the Feb 22 rematch is a much better fight than the Dec. 7 return was.

“I would think the Tyson fight with Wilder will probably be the same as Anthony Joshua’s last fight,” Warren said to talkSPORT.com. “It’s a much better fight, isn’t it? I mean, come on, Ruiz and AJ, that was just the interest of the rematch. When he came in at the weight he did with all the blubber on him, from Ruiz’s point of view that was no respect to any of the fans. Tyson’s training like a trojan and the same with Wilder. So you know these guys will be on tip-top form. Whoever wins that fight is the best heavyweight in the world.”

Warren added how BT will not do as many PPV shows as rival Sky Sports do. So, will you fork out £24.95 to see if Wilder can KO Fury this time, or to see whether or not Fury can live up to his prediction and score a second-round KO win? You might regret having chucked up 25 quid if the fight did last less than six minutes.

Don’t expect Fury-Wilder II to do anything like the 1.6 million buys Ruiz-Joshua II managed, but the fast-approaching rematch will pull in at least respectable numbers here in the U.K. As Warren says correctly, the winner of this fight will be THE best heavyweight in the world.

Wilder-Fury: Two Commercials Watched By 100M-Plus During Super Bowl - From Boxing Scene

There aren’t many American sports fans that don’t at least know about the upcoming Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury rematch.

According to Nielsen Media Research, the two Wilder-Fury II commercials that aired during FOX’s broadcast of Super Bowl LIV on Sunday night were watched by more than 100 million people apiece in the United States. An audience of 103,500,000 saw the first Wilder-Fury rematch promo at 8:02 p.m. ET, slightly more than the 101,100,000 who saw the second commercial at 8:37 p.m. ET.

Nielsen also revealed that 126,500,000 viewers combined watched seven Wilder-Fury II commercials during FOX’s pre-Super Bowl coverage from 12:56 p.m. ET until 6:10 p.m. ET, about 20 minutes prior to kickoff. The last two pre-game promos, which aired at 5:50 p.m. ET and 6:10 p.m. ET, were seen by audiences of 33,400,000 and 49,600,000, respectively.

An estimated 148,500,000 American viewers watched all or part of Super Bowl LIV – in which the Kansas City Chiefs came back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

The second heavyweight title bout between Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KOs), the WBC champion, and Fury (29-0-1, 20 KOs), the lineal champion, is scheduled for February 22 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The four-fight show is a joint pay-per-view venture between FOX Sports, which has a content contract with Wilder’s adviser, Al Haymon, and ESPN, which has a broadcast agreement with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc., Fury’s co-promoter.

Their first pay-per-view fight, which was distributed by Showtime, reportedly produced approximately 325,000 buys in December 2018. Wilder knocked down Fury twice in that bout – once apiece in the ninth and 12th rounds – but it resulted in a 12-round split draw at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Arum has said that he expects their highly anticipated rematch to generate more than 2 million buys because of the broad combined reach of FOX and ESPN.

FOX, one of the four major broadcast networks in the United States, is available in nearly 120 million American homes.

ESPN is the second most-watched basic cable channel in the United States, behind only FOX News. ESPN has an estimated 83 million American subscribers.

Showtime, a premium cable channel, has more than 29 million subscribers in the U.S.

Had Sky not up'd the price for Ruiz-AJ II to £25, then no doubt BT would not ahve thought of it as well.

Plus, Wilder-Fury is on middle of night.

I heard the first bout, which had a 'decent' undercard, sold around 400,000 in the UK. Not shabby at all.

Still less than the 80 dollars we are paying in the US (if you buy it that is)

Even Spence-Porter was like 75 I think, now this at 80, the yanks have it crazy and it keeps growing, 50 is totally different than what they get now

Nope. Haven't been at 60.00 in the us for around 10-12 years if memory serves. 49.99 during Mike Tyson's time and the cards were better then.

Canelo-GGG 2 was pricier than the first.

No chance am i forking out 25 quid to stay up till daft o'clock for this! Feck that! I'll either stream if i can be arsed staying up or watch it the following day. I would've probably bought it if the fight was over here and at a reasonable time.

I'll probably end up paying for this on somebody else's TV. It's worth £25 just to watch it without losing your stream and it always freezing and stuff. I don't have the money to do this every fight but this one of the few I want to appreciate without having to worry about all that.

I can remember watching big fights on streams on my phone at raves and stuff; Sitting on an old sofa next to a campfire surrounded by hippies trying to watch Kovolev-Ward 2 with trails.

I won't be doing that with this.

I’m so torn on this fight.

I can see both of the widely popular outcomes happening. On the one hand I think fury getting up and returning fire in the 12th is really important. But then I think that Wilder didn’t even land that clean.

I can’t remember feeling so unsure about the outcome of a fight. This one’s unmissable for me.

Its hard to get excited paying for one fight. PPV's should be a whole show, not one fight.

I remember when PPV was literally 1 mega fight.. but the undercard was littered with some good 50-50 style match iOS and at least another world title bout.
