It seems to me it takes some kind of deep ideological commitment to the idea that Loma has no power to miss the fact that he very much had Commey on queer street there.
And I do think pressing forward and throwing in that moment that Commey seemed barely able to stand up would likely have resulted in a stoppage. It seems to me that Loma's instinct isn't really to hurt guys as badly as he can -- perhaps the point-scoring mentality of amateur fights will just always be there in his head.

Lopez and poppa Lopez take note :shame:
Such a great point. I’ve always said that you can tell most about an athlete by his behavior after a loss (legitimate or robjob) versus a win.

Even the way that Haney and Ryan reacted after getting buzzed whilst winning their fights. Why not congratulate their opponents for landing the hardest punches they’ve experienced on this level. Fans have always gravitated towards those guys that accepted things with humility. I could list many boxers that gained positive notoriety while losing but none of these kids learn anything from lessons of the past in boxing. You can be a dick when you win but you can’t be that same dick when you lose or get shook. Most Fans will be rooting for the other guy next time. Almost always.

Still like him as a fighter though. America has to have a heavyweight future and it is looking like its him at the moment. I'm sure everyone that has seen Hunter lately has realised it isn't him.

Did anyone ever think Hunter was the American HW future?

I like him but I never thought he would be at the top of the heap.

Yeah there was buzz talk about him after he cleanly decisioned an undefeated Kuzman, then went on to SDraw with Povetkin - a decent achievement because he hadn't been a HW for that long. Also, you get beaten by Uysk at cruiser, no one is going to hold that against you ;-)
So yes, Hunter was in the mix as the next up and coming American HW.
Now Wilder is belt less and in no man's land, who is next for the USA?
It ain't Hunter, so Anderson has to be top of the current pile.
It's a potentially huge market, just waiting for the next big thing, snd Anderson is certainly big :OhYes:

At 22 and undefeated, Anderson certainly appears to figure in the future of the American HW group. He has certainly stayed busy throughout the Covid pandemic, and he does what people love at HW; leave the judges out of it.

I like him, but I do my best to not look at boxing through a nationalist lense.

Jury is still out on Lomachenko.
He has problems taking the lead in fights.
He's taking too long to dominant, he needs 4-6 rounds to get going.

Went back and took a close look at Anderson. He leads with his face too much for the top level right now, imo. He leaps in. The top dudes would test his mug like a chopping block. He needs more time and work, which he certainly has at 22. It would be a big mistake to move him too fast. The top 15 would grind him up right now.

Yes, a motivated opponent will tee off on his face. In all seriousness I actually think Miller and Anderson make a good proposition for a fight.
Yes the big baby thing is humorous, but I would back Anderson to win it, I would also give him a good chance of putting the Michael Hunter we have seen the last couple of years away.
I know he is very raw, with a lot to learn. I also don't think very much of Miller or Hunter.

Hunter has a very high skill level, if he is motivated.

Nobody can accuse Anderson of going the Wilder route. He is definitely in a much faster development lane. Somebody needs to teach him some defense though. He has the outside potential of developing to a Whyte level.

His defense is fine. He gets hit when he loses focus on defense when he is over confident. That's why he's developing. He'll be better than Whyte. He has terrific skills and potential.

Losing focus and diving face first into punches every round is bad defense. Whyte is in the top 5 HW list, and he has been in the top 10 for years. When Anderson approaches top 10 we can revisit this.

He has first round focus issues when overconfident. Whyte has been a top 5 in a weak era. Anderson will be a better fighter in a year or two. Focus issues are not atypical for a prospect. It's part of the learning process. "diving face first" is a silly remark.

You may consider the remark “silly” but what is silly is the way he does it repeatedly.

Also, this is a stronger HW era than several others.

1 - being tagged a few times isn't "diving into punches"
2 - This ear is better than some, but worse than most IMHO.

Being tagged because you are diving in wide open is an unforced error. Not getting hit by lesser competition does not make the practice any less silly.
