I thought he looked defensively quite good against Algeiri. Looked very open though in the first round last night - perhaps he took inspiration from Campbell Hatton.a force wrote: ↑17 Apr 2022, 03:45 I feel like he’s an accident waiting to happen. I think beating old men who aren’t punchers will give him a false sense of confidence.
Maybe he can suddenly tighten up against more dangerous fighters but I find it hard to believe he can go from been wide open taking big risks not worrying about what’s coming back to fighting very disciplined.
He’s exciting but I can’t see them stepping up. They’ll claim it’s a step up but it’ll be a big name past his best or at a weight too high.
Froch was talking sense suggesting Essuman. That’s a proper fight for me. I’d love to see it. You need to fight fighters with ambition who are young & fit & come through them if you’ve any chance at world level.

I enjoyed the Billam Smith fight, the rest was pretty crap. As for Benn calling out Khan, what a joke, fighting old men who've hardly fought recently won't get him anywhere.
It will be interesting to see how the cost of living crisis will effect these shows and DAZN/PPV buys, plenty of empty seats at Manchester and loads on the BT show. Could be Fury has got in there at the right time with next week's show as people start to cut back on expenses then night outs will be first to go.

They must be hoping on casual viewers cos die hards will be giving up on it soon .

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden - 16 April 2022
I think the cost of living crisis is already affecting things with people cutting back. Everything is more expensive with the big ones being fuel and electricity. Now we’ve got higher national insurance which many people will already be feeling the hit on. It may not have massively changed the attendances of the shows last night but I think it’ll certainly impact the PPV buys this coming week.tony1234 wrote: ↑17 Apr 2022, 05:12 I enjoyed the Billam Smith fight, the rest was pretty crap. I'm sure I'll get abuse for this....but....Tyson was always going to sell out, and his fans don't even know what national insurance is...

I think he fights hooker next. Just the way ed said some things. Not bad, step up for sure. Yes a 140lber but a frame that could be a 175... So he should fill into 147 nicely. If I had to bet money that's where I'd throw it.

career 140 pounder, 1 win in the last 3 years (over a nobody), took a beating in his last fight (which was over a year ago already), potential for "stopped him faster than X"..............fits enough of the requirements i guess. tbh sounds a lot like algeiri, they even have the same shutout over mikkel lespierregregregegg wrote: ↑17 Apr 2022, 06:51 I think he fights hooker next. I think it'll be Khan. They keep talking the big names, but it'll be a another faded or shot fighter and Khan fits that bill perfectly, especially in regards the shot part.
Straight after Brook beat a shot to bits Khan, Benn was there shouting out that he'll get revenge for Khan when he fights Brook. Now he's calling Khan out lol
No self awareness.
Benn looks great, and has for sure come on leaps and bounds, but my god he's in for a rude awakening when someone hits him back. It's so obvious.

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden - 16 April 2022
I’d usually support a boxing channel like DAZN, but the hopeless uk cards and gushing in-house comm make it such a hard watch ( their advertorials in BN are embarrassing and other ads look like they’ve paid about 50 quid & make them look desperate ) so i cancelled last month. I watched the Benn fight online this morning and it’s just more of the same…And I saw them advertising various up coming fights around France Germany Italy, fighters I’ve never heard of, seems like they really are scraping the bottom of the barrel.
I also get the the impression Benn’s chin won’t hold up too well when he steps up, has he been dropped before ?

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden - 16 April 2022
Does anyone else think Benn looks a small welter? I’m not saying he can make 140lbs as he looks great on the scales always but van Heerden come in 1 1/2lb under the limit and looked bigger.
That might eventually be Benn’s undoing. Coming up against a huge welter who will rehydrate to a super middleweight.

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden - 16 April 2022
It’d be deflating if Conor Benn’s next fight is Mo Hooker.
That’s no different from van Heerden and Algieri.
Got to admire what Shakur Stevenson is doing.
I can’t help but think why more people aren’t pushing for these kind of fights.
Id personally put Conor in with Spence, Crawford, Ortiz, Ennis.
He might well lose but he might not.
When did boxing become so self-preservation city.

Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden - 16 April 2022
Isn`t Benn 5`8" .. that is quite the average height for a modern welter, but he doesn`t look to have a particularly strong frame at the weight - I expected him to have settled at lt-welter where his power would likely be proper devastating as his dads was at middleweight.Dioufy wrote: ↑17 Apr 2022, 07:47 Does anyone else think Benn looks a small welter? I agree with others here regarding him being an accident waiting to happen though; he is developing some bad habits against the non-punchers he is facing.

WTF would Benn/Hearn blow their beans getting destroyed by Ennis for peanuts.

I’m not his manager. Of course I’m talking like a fan of the sport.
I certainly have no promotional expertise.
But I still would happily see Benn in with any welterweight.
Win or lose… he will come to fight and it’ll be entertaining.
Btw Ennis could only draw with van Heerden whereas Conor took him back to Cape Town… no sweat.
Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden - 16 April 2022
van Heerden just said that Benn was on the same level as Boots and Spence.
Seems like a decent guy so maybe he’s just be overly nice but still an interesting statement.

I think his undoing will be actually fighting someone who comes to win and not just fall overDioufy wrote: ↑17 Apr 2022, 07:47 Does anyone else think Benn looks a small welter? I'd be happy if Benn just fought someone under 30 years old who was active and on a winning run over opponents around domestic level.
Re: Round-by-Round: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden - 16 April 2022
Yes, a little known frenchie called Paynard. Benn lost to him on all but the judges cards, then eventually rematched him and genuinely won- which was good. Paynard isn't very good at all, but in the first fight he was actually willing to try and win and wasn't nearly 40 years old.MightyWarrior wrote: ↑17 Apr 2022, 07:45 I’d usually support a boxing channel like DAZN, but the hopeless uk cards and gushing in-house comm make it such a hard watch ( their advertorials in BN are embarrassing and other ads look like they’ve paid about 50 quid & make them look desperate ) so i cancelled last month. Benn has since improved, credit for that. The concern is how he has been matched since then. 21 fights, no Area/British /Commonwealth/European fights. So we don't even have a clue how good he is, he might not even be the best in England. He gets matched against soft hitting former names or padded out "on paper" guys and realistically Benn's record is not what I would call padded, but it is very carefully curated

Benns career is following a similar path to Khans with a host of once half decent opponents, who are either on the slide, inactive or old,or in the case with Van Heerden, all threeKiwiRider wrote: ↑17 Apr 2022, 15:12Yes, a little known frenchie called Paynard. If we are lucky… that might be Benn’s next fight.
No doubting Benn’s progress is slow when compared with his performances but like I’ve said before countless times… a defeat for Benn might do him favours like it did with Khan’s Prescott experience,
Summer. I’d put Benn in with a 35 year old Crawford.
