It’s a solid show but I think they underestimate the climate we’re in. They were talking when it was announced that it was already sold out on the presale yet that hasn’t been the case and they’re still selling tickets.

There isn’t much on the undercard that will get the casuals buying in to and whilst Eubank Jr vs Smith is a class fight I don’t think it’s quite big enough to get a couple of hundred thousand people to pay £20 for it when many are struggling to pay their bills already.
I think it will do better than the Catterall PPV but that might not be saying much
PPV is usually a popularity contest.

Casuals know Eubank.. Smith is known as well..

Taylor, for being an undisputed champion isn't popular or known to casuals. His PPV with Prograis proved this and even with Chisora on the card too.

Catterall was really inactive before the first Taylor fight and on BT as well. Didn't have many meaningful fights.

Eubank jnr v Smith may not have the pull of Eubank jnr v Benn, but for me, it's a much better contest.

I'm surprised at how close the Poll is.

I think it's Eubank jnr all day long.

The only question, for me, is how he wins :maybe:

Eubank: Smith Will Not Be as Hard a Fight as Benn Would Have Been

“I wasn’t going to give up Christmas and New Year for Liam Smith, he is just not dangerous enough,” Eubank said.

“I know what Liam is, I sparred Liam, I have watched him for years. Liam is very A, B, C – there are going to be no surprises, I know everything he is going to do and I know how to deal with fighters like that. That’s why I say there is not much of a danger there and it will not be as hard a fight as Conor Benn would have been.

“Liam has one way of doing things, whereas I can box, I can fight, I can brawl, I can swing, I can slug, I can dance around. He has one way of doing things, which is to come forward, tuck up, stay in the pocket and try and walk his man down. Will he try and change that for me? I don’t think you can change your fighting style at his age, unless you have the mind to do that, which I don’t think he has.”

“It’s always going to be a concern,” Eubank said. “One – it is not resolved, two - the fight did not happen. We have got to make it happen at some point, so it is always going to be in my mind. Obviously, I have to focus on the man in front of me now, but I have some serious unfinished business.”

“I can learn things on the fly, I am very good at picking things up, which is why I am with Roy,” he said.

“Roy brings stability, he brings discipline, guidance, a schedule. Before him I was doing my own thing, I was doing whatever I wanted to do. I was never the type to need to be pushed. Some guys need that, they need someone telling them what to do. But the experience and genius that this man has, I just must have him in the corner.

“He brings so many things, 99.9 per cent of the boxing population don’t know what he knows, so just listening to him, practising the things he shows me, sharpens my mind, sharpens my tools and adds little things to my already solid game.

“But I don’t need Roy to beat Liam Smith – if Roy wasn’t around the outcome would still be the same – but having there adds a little bit of spice. Roy will always be with me now for the rest of my career, unless I am fighting Conor Benn.

“That fight is a one-off and it is like a Eubank-Benn thing, it’s two names, it’s a British affair. That’s the one fight where it is Ronnie in the corner and my old man, if I can get him there, not Roy. But everything else, Roy will be with me.”

“When I went to his farm in Pensacola, that is the one thing I was wondering about,” he said. “He had these crazy reflexes, this combination of head movement and speed. I am very athletic, so I wasn’t worried about if I could do it, but I wondered how he would be if you don’t get things right.

“Some fighters, if it is not exactly how they want it, it’s not good enough. Roy is not like that. He watches his fighters and he tries to improve them to the best of his ability, he doesn’t say ‘this is the only way to do it and if you can’t do it, you’re wrong’. He sees what you are capable of and he works with it, which was great and I wasn’t expecting.

“Luckily, I could do all the things he was teaching me. That’s why we gel so well, because he is not used to that. A lot of the guys he has trained have not been able to implement the things he says.”

“I am frustrated, I want to fight three times a year,” he said. “I fought once in 2022, it is just unacceptable. But these things happen, it’s out of my control.

“I wanted to make this fight happen in December, but we couldn’t turn it around that quick so it is happening in January.

“It is still not a bad thing because it means I can still fight again in the summer and the winter. Three times a year is what we are looking at – big names, world titles. I want those belts.”

Good match up (as long as it ain't at light middle), but shocks me to see it's a PPV event :stop:

Times have changed massively in Skysports. This would have simply been a special attraction many years ago at no extra charge to the monthly subscription fee !

Yes - I think though Matchroom started that business when Dillion White and Chisora were headlining PPVs against no names (like Rivas - outside of the boxing community no one knew him).

I'm more surprised 12 people have voted Eubank by KO!
He hasn't stopped anyone half decent for over four years, and all of them (except DeGale) have been stopped by others. :maybe:

I can't think of another boxer who's more of a poser than Eubank. It's amazing how little he's done in the sport yet still talks about himself as some spectacular talent.

Same with the Catterall PPV, that should never be a PPV no matter how stacked the card is.

And the poll now shows Smith in the lead :yay:
I had a flutter on him early doors when the odds were slightly better.
I'm not counting the votes for Eubank KO because that seems a bit far fetched given his performances over the last 5 years and how tough Beefy is. It took a sustained beat down by Canelo to put him away, and Eubank doesn't have that power or workload.
Come on Beefy! :yay:

I agree, in as much as you can never count on Eubank jnr to put the foot down on the pedal and close the show. He's a terrible finisher !

I still can't make a case for Smith winning. Liam has good skills, but won't be able to break up Eubank the way he has done to other opponents.

How can Junior manage to be so devoid of charisma and personality, when his dad was one of the most charismatic boxers in the world?

Liam Smith: Eubank Jr. is Not Better Than Munguia, The 'Name' Has Helped Him Massively

“It is a high-profile fight because of the name and because of his demeanor and attitude,” Smith said. “He has made himself a big name in British boxing.

“But do I think he is a better fighter than Jaime Munguia? No, so I don’t think he’s the second best fighter I’ve fought, either.”

“Somehow, he has developed a big name in British boxing. But the name he is and the stupid money he has made in boxing is crazy because he has won a British title, he has never won a world title.

“He has obviously done something right but the name has helped that massively.”

“The money thing doesn’t bother me, nothing he ever does bothers me,” Smith said.

“But there have been better fighters, more dedicated pros, who have had top fights throughout their careers and haven’t made the money Chris has made.

“That’s the sport and the business side. It’s not unfair, Chris has played the game perfectly. He’s not my cup of tea but I still think, ‘Good on you, you’ve played the game perfectly’.

“There have been world champions who have walked out of boxing without a penny and not because they blew the money but because it maybe wasn’t there then and they weren’t a big name but they were still world champions.”

You don't think Beefy can outwork him?
Eubank's punch output has been fairly low the last few years.

I think PPV sales for this arent doing well on the basis that Sky are having to try and promote it today with a big push on the fact that George Groves and Carl Froch are being "reunited" and will be working for Sky on the night......

 wow Sky are pathetic. Talk about desperate and grasping at straws. Imagine buying a PPV to hear Groves and Froch talk about the 80,000 and how they went from enemies to friends….. and their boring tour.

DAZN TO AIR EUBANK VS. SMITH ON JAN. 21ST

Wasserman Boxing announced today that the all-British dust-up between Chris Eubank Jr. and former WBO 154-pound champion Liam Smith, set for Saturday, January 21st at the AO Arena in Manchester, will be available to all DAZN subscribers in the US, Canada, DACH and Japan. The fight is co-promoted by Boxxer. Eubank Jr (32-2, 23 KOs) is the son of former champion Chris Eubank. At age 33, he has carved out his own reputation in the sport and is seen as one of the leading middleweights in the world. His latest fight in February 2022 saw a shutout points win over Liam Williams at the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff in which he knocked down the Welshman four times.

Smith (32-3-1, 19 KOs) heads into this clash in top form following big wins over Jesse Vargas, Anthony Fowler and Roberto Garcia. The Liverpool man is determined to become a world champion for a second time and a statement win vs Eubank JR will kick off 2023 with a bang.

"DAZN is always looking to deliver the best boxing schedule to our subscribers and we are proud to be showing this huge fight between two of Britain’s finest’ said Joe Markowski, the CEO of DAZN North America. "We are no strangers to Liam and Chris and know we have a potential blockbuster on our hands. In 2023, we are determined to work with as many promoters as we can in order to deliver the best fights for fight fans and with actions speaking louder than words we are excited to be working for the first time with Boxxer on this special event. Tune in live January 21st for a memorable night of British boxing’.

Boxxer CEO & Founder, Ben Shalom said: “This is fantastic news. I am delighted that fight fans in the US, Canada, DACH and Japan will be able to watch this blockbuster event live and exclusively on DAZN. The card is stacked with massive fights from top to bottom. And the brewing animosity between bitter rivals, Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Smith will reach boiling point in what promises to be an unmissable main event in front of a sold-out AO Arena in Manchester.”

Wasserman’s Head of Global Boxing, Kalle Sauerland, said: "It’s fantastic that this mega fight will now have a global audience on DAZN, it’s a fight that merits a global audience and the eyeballs of the world will be on Manchester come next Saturday."

The show features a stacked undercard with Richard Riakporhe launching his quest for a world title shot in 2023 when he battles former two-time WBO cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Głowacki and local lad Jack Massey stepping up to face former WBO heavyweight champion, Joseph Parker. Joining them on this blockbuster night of boxing will be Ekow Essuman vs Chris Kongo and further bouts involving Frazer Clarke, Matty Harris, Scott Forrest and Amine ‘The Beast’ Boucetta.
