Rugby League play off tomorrow afternoon gets the go ahead .
Interesting update tweeted by their governing body only adds to the confusion surrounding the decision.

Following the publication of National Mourning Guidance, and consultation with Government, other sports and Rugby League stakeholders including clubs, the RFL can confirm that fixtures at all levels will go ahead this weekend.

Perhaps there’s another National Mourning Guidance for footy and boxing ?
Looks like the BBOC , the Premier League and EFL want to be seen to do the right thing ? Virtue signalling taking the upper moral high ground wanting to be above any criticism ?

I personally see no reason why fans and sportsmen / sportswomen can’t come together and pay their due respect as at the football last night .

A decision of retards.

Not renowned for showing any empathy towards Americans but feel for the US camp here. Not sure even they deserve to be the beneficiary of this pathetic call.

Horrible call.

It's not a horrible call but it's not about respect either. It's basic logistics but this won't be stated publicly. Outside broadcasting equipment and expertise is required by all the major broadcasters for obvious reasons, so too police. Hence football and boxing being canned for the time being.

p.s. surprised this isn't obvious to people?

Has anybody other than Bridges castigated the decision to postpone? I'm not a twitterer. I ruddy hope so.

In some regards it would be preferable if the broadcasters could just be honest about the reason for the postponements but stating "the money we'll earn by producing live OB programmes relating to the Queen's death and King's appointment will earn us a fortune" doesn't strike the right tone. Anybody with half a brain will realise the reason and also why the "out of respect" line is used, though.

What exactly are Sky Sports working on which they are going to show tomorrow night instead? A compilation of the Queen politely clapping at major sporting events?

So it wasn’t the BBBofC that stopped the show, it was Sky - who ditched the O2 event at the very last minute after they figured there was more wonga to be had in standing outside Buckingham Palace or something…

Never thought of that.

I'm not sure there is any validity in that, but you've made it a concrete fact. Anyone have any knowledge besides Jimmy on the commercial rewards of broadcasting? Probably looking for a poster with two brains over someone with half a brain that are currently contributing.

BBBofC can postpone the event because they will get their cut either way.

Fighters & Fans? fornicate em. Virtue signalling is more important.

Op London Bridge has been planned for and amended over the decades. Broadcasters have rehearsed and pre-booked OB production companies years ahead. Pomp and circumstance live and in years to come by way of documentaries with contemporaneous footage is huge on the global market and for GB PLC in propaganda terms.

Shalom said that the BBC had pulled out of broadcasting (radio I guess) the event.

Like Jim says, there's other stuff to consider in the background.

Media-wise, nothing else will matter until after the funeral.

Amazed to see people calling the cancellation "woke" btw.

I'm still not getting it, admittedly been all in on red wine since mid afternoon so not overly functioning. Sky have a zillion channels they can make contemporaneous docus for lucrative overseas buyers. They also have a zillion support staff to cover each and every big sporting event and media circus. Contractually if the board had given a green light for the event, then contractually they wouldve been tied in to oblige. Cheers, get yourself a booze, if not for queenie then for yourself.

No EFL match on SKY so they're showing a German game live, shameful we should be looking at a black screen mourning or its all hypocrisy

There's nothing to get mate, he's talking cobblers.

The BBBofC are being over sentimental and / or don't want to get slated in the news. Everyone else can just bend over and take it.

Yep. The claim might make some sense if all sports were cancelled, whereas in fact it’s only boxing and football.

Do sky even have the legal right to just pull out? It’s life changing money, the government orbbboc hasn’t pulled out, no safety concern, just “respect”…?

If I were one of the fighters I’d be well pissed off.

BBBC put out a statement suspending boxing this weekend so it’s nothing to do with Sky, Shalom or Smith.
