De La Hoya on Haney-Lomachenko: “Trust Me, Loma Won; I Scored It 8-4!”

“Well, look, I was there, front row, center, I was watching the fight carefully,” De La Hoya told InsideFighting. “I had Lomachenko—and I love Haney, he’s one of the master boxers in the sport today—I had Lomachenko 8-4. Literally 8-4. Seven-five, at worst. Yeah, it was pretty bad.

“Hands down, Loma won. I was ringside, first row. I was just being a fan of these two guys. I wanted to watch this fight because it’s the undisputed world title fight. They don’t come very often. I was studying the fight carefully and trust me Loma won.”

“I would appeal it,” De La Hoya said. “They have a good enough case. I mean, you can watch that fight over and over and over again. It was 8-4, or 7-5, I mean, at worst.”

“If I was Loma, I would just move on to the next because I think the world knows that he won,” De La Hoya said. “Not even a rematch. I think Haney is now going to have that doubt in his head that he lost to Loma and could affect him against other opponents, like Shakur Stevenson.

“[Lomachenko] was landing a lot more punches. He was not only pressing the action, but he was landing a lot more effective punches and that’s how you win fights.”

Ok so I just watched this thing.

First 3 rounds were all razor thin, but I always felt like the best shots getting in were Haney's body shots, and I had him winning all 3 rounds.

Loma eked out Round 4 for me even though the TV crew seemed to largely favor Haney which I found interesting. Loma again eked out the 5th, but nobody is especially dominant in these rounds to me.

3 rounds to 2 after 5.

Another slow round with Haney's body shots, and a few others stealing another quiet round.

Loma had the best round of the fight of either fighter up to this point, and won Round 7 handily I thought.

Round 8 and 9 Haney in my opinion gets the better of, but he admits to his corner that he's feeling like Loma knows what he's doing after the 9th.

After 9 I had 6 rounds to 3 for Haney.

Round 10 is a clear cut round for Loma. Clearest round of the fight.

Round 11 Loma absolutely kicks Haney's ass.

Round 12 it's close, and I felt Loma edged it.

I had it 114-114. It's Loma vs Lopez all over again in a lot of ways.

Loma releases statement

“I received a lot of messages from fans around the world. It’s very, very nice and I’m very happy to read your very, very warm words. I just wanted to say big thank you for your support, for the people who come to Saturday night and saw what happened that night.”
