If a number 1 guy can't beat the guys below him it's a hollow argument. But it happens all the time like it or not.

If someone wants to argue he was number 1 on paper I don't care enough to argue about it
You don't know that Fury couldn't beat the guys below him though. You just assume he couldn't. He certainly didn't lose to anybody until 2024, so it's certainly not insane to believe he was the man in 2015 because...ya know...he had beaten the reigning Champion of the last 9 years.

Joshua would've been a heavy underdog in 2015 I'd think as he was only 3 years into his Pro career.
Losing to someone would require fighting them to begin with. Easier to avoid losses when you won't fight top contenders. Wilder and a shot Whyte were probably his best opponents over that time period.

Joshua fought dire opposition going into the Wlad fight. Doubt his fights in 2016 taught him anything as they were journeyman types he easily blew aside without effort.

Evander is winning this, he is a legend.

I don't get the critique about the Mercer fight Evander won 6 of the first 8 rounds and dropped him. He took the last two rounds of. He won comfortably.

Holyfield Foreman, Bowe, Lewis, Tyson, would beat Usyk, Heck prime Tua, Wlad and Vitali would too.

IFighters since 1980 that beat Usyk, Holmes, Witherspoon, Spinks, Tyson, Tokyo Douglas, Holyfield, 1990 Foreman, Bowe, Lewis, Vitali, Wlad, Tua, Ike.. HE is not even top 10 in last 45 years, let alone all time.

The last 45 years takes Ali, Frazier, Liston and Joe Louis off the list. Which means that Usyk definitely would have a place in the Top 10 of that time period.

There isn't an argument that you could make that someone else deserves the spot over him. Sure you could say a name, but you couldn't give a good reason for why they should be there instead of Usyk because there isn't one.

Of the last 45 years the people I'd have ahead of Usyk are Holmes, Foreman, Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe, Wladimir Klitschko and Mike Tyson.

That's 7. You'd have to bend yourself into quite the Pretzel trying to come up with an argument for 3 more That'd be ahead of him in that time period, and also you could make a reasonable argument that he could potentially be ahead of Bowe, Wlad and Tyson. I personally wouldn't make that argument, but I can imagine how somebody would go about doing that, and not sound crazy. Those 4 aren't separated by much.
