Deontay Wilder wants friend Derek Chisora to 'try to kill him'

Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora have been cordial throughout the buildup to their April 4 clash.

The friendly measures between the longtime heavyweights are out the window for the time being, though.
In an interview with The Ring, Wilder said he wants the British heavyweight to try and kill him when they fight in a DAZN Pay-Per-View main event at O2 Arena in London.

“I can be cordial,” Wilder said. “I can be friendly with anyone, but that don’t mean that I can’t switch to want to whoop your ass. It’s just what it is. We’re fighters. I’m a fighter, and I’m proven to be that way. This is not just talk. When I say that we can be friends on the outside, but when it’s time to fight, we gonna turn that off.

“I’ve already told him, ‘I want you to try to kill me, you understand me?’ He looked at me weird, [but] I need that because we can do this. I’m proven, because I also had a brother that I fought and told him the same thing. It’s gonna be the last time we talk. The next time we see each other, we’re gonna be in each other’s face. We’re gonna be at war, because I need at that point of time to turn it off.”

Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) is one of boxing's most prolific punchers in history and held the WBC heavyweight title from 2015 to 2020, making 10 defenses. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native lost his title via seventh-round stoppage by Tyson Fury during their February 2020 rematch.

After losing four of his last five fights, Wilder, 40, rebounded with a seventh-round stoppage of Tyrrell Herndon in June.

Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) said his bout with Wilder will be his last. The British heavyweight has pushed many of the division's top players to the brink but fell short, including narrow decision defeats by WBC interim champ Agit Kabayel, former WBO titlist Joseph Parker twice and Ring, IBF, WBA and WBC beltholder Oleksandr Usyk.

The 42-year-old has seemingly found another fountain of youth, entering this contest on a three-fight win streak, most recently outpointing Otto Wallin in their February 2025 headliner.

Once the dust settles on April 4, Wilder maintains that he and Chisora will go back to being friends, and believes this fight will strengthen their bond.

“When you fight your friend, or anything else, it will bring you closer to that person,” Wilder said.

“Your relationship is even stronger, and it’s better. That’s what I’m looking forward to, and I can’t wait. That’s why it’s gonna make it a great fight and I feel every fighter in the business should take a page out of our book on how to promote, because some guys just try too hard to promote.

“People know bulls*** when they see it, but when it’s authentic and genuine, and I can say, ‘I love you, you love me, and we’re friends,’ it makes a better fight for everyone and keeps the ones around you at ease. We don’t need security, not for this event, and that’s what it is. April 4 at O2 Arena, it’s gonna be electrifying. It’s gonna be crazy. It feels like my debut all over again, and I can’t wait.”

What do people think the odds are of Chisora retiring after this? He'd still be another fight from a title shot but there are still somewhat decent pay days out there for him off the back of this.

Does he fight Torrez/Sanchez next then to get the IBF mandatory? Wardley/Dubois winner as a voluntary defence? Itauma? Joshua? Can't see it being worthwhile for him against many others.

Usyk isn't going to choose to face him. Kabayel will wait for Usyk. Dubois/Wardley will do what Frank tells them (defend against Itauma or Chisors) or wait for Usyk so that's the only option unless Usyk retires and belts fragment.

Pretty good fight. They'll have to set up another eliminator. CBS should be in the other half to possibly set up a fight with Riley for the vacant belt. Their rankings are generally pretty bad but the division isn't the most stacked at the moment outside of the guys who already have/had belts.

Derek Chisora’s undefeated nephew set to fight on Deontay Wilder bill

Derek Chisora's nephew Jermaine Dhliwayo will box on his uncle's bill for a third, and perhaps final time.

The unbeaten 8-0 super featherweight made his professional debut on the undercard of Chisora's domestic dust-up with Joe Joyce in July 2024.



He also supported his uncle's bout with Otto Wallin at Manchester's Co-op Live Arena in February 2025.

The fight was supposed to be Chisora's 'last dance' in the United Kingdom, with his final bow initially expected to take place in Saudi Arabia.

However, it has since been confirmed that his 50th and seemingly last professional outing will take place against Deontay Wilder on April 4 at London's O2 Arena.

Dhliwayo was added as a late addition to the undercard on Friday.

He is booked to face Alex Morgan (7-2), who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to 3-8-2 journeyman Caine Singh last December.

Wonder if this has done more than 8 thousand tickets. Half term and fury week after makes it an easy choice to miss this as a paying customer.

Waiting for the discounts on this one. They've probably done their conkers on this

Central Tickets, Showfilmsfirst and The Audience Club have all had boxing fights on their platforms

The undisputed GOAT is Tickets for Good but you have to be NHS/Public/Charity affiliated to log in

If they are to be discounted it would be around Thursday when they start to show up

- not a fan of Chisora- but maybe it’ll be a slugfest and I’m just down the road from there Saturday night

Am I wrong think the odds are crazy, chisora always gets hit and wilder hits as hard as it gets, its all psychological for wilder I reckon but he could do this rd1, hes defensively savey enough to avoid the right hand for a while at least

I know they say the last thing a boxer loses is his punch but in Wilders case he certainly doesn’t seem to be the same force in recent fights. He doesn’t seem to commit to his punches like he used to and I think it’s because he’s reluctant to trade.
