After that it was Jackson who looked in control he had McClellan holding on several times and McClellan was looking a bit uncomfortable, things spun on their head in the 5th when McClellan pole axed Jackson with a right, he smashed another left in to send him crashing down flat on his back, Jackson got up but he was still badly dazed McClellan set in about him and crashed another right to put him down, Jackson got up but was all over the shop, ref stopped it

It was this fight that was the beginning of the end of McClellan's career.

G-Man absorbed some thundercrackers from Jackson and suffered from severe headaches periodically afterwards; we now know why.

wow, jackson flys out first bell, mccallum what i thought were some wayward over hands rights, then conects with a over hand right jackson stays up nearly took a knee, mccallum putting it on him, jackson gets to the ropes then throws a great left that lands ,then both both trow some wild shots in the 1st ,after round 1 iam thinking mccallum ko in next to rd2s though he is throwing hayemakers,jackson trying to get that jab going in 2nd mccallum still firing some wild rights, jackons landing upper cuts hookers looking like his fight now mccallum is looking like some crude thug,rd3 mccallum trying to get his jab going .jackson is flying in , not sure what happened in the 3rd jackson landing some decent rights, mccallum looking on the back foot, but jackson takes his mind of it gets hit mccallum big in the driving seat,not much happening in the 4th but you can see up close mccuallum is grabbimg leaing holding and letting the odd shot off, 2 low blows in the fith , after all that mccallum landing that right then left hook, how the the brother got up the first count big respect, and then mccaullum went in for the kill put jackson down again, though jackson beat the count mills lane stopped it, very good fighter could not tell which way it would go

Muhammad Ali vs Jimmy Young

The recent talk about this controvesial bout made me to rewatch it. Young started good, Ali was just pressuring without punches, Young was scoring. After the 3rd round Ali became more active and took some rounds. Young bounced back by the middle of the fight, Ali began to dance more and was trying to outjab Young, but Jimmy's defence was good, he was landing better shots. In the 12th Ali started to show desperation, he took that round, while Young also was counted for escaping from Ali's attack through the ropes. That was an odd move by the ref, cause he either shouldn't have done it at all or should have do it later, but he ignored other "escapes" of Young. The 13th was quite intense with both scoring good shots. In the ending Young was better. I had it 69-66 for Young.

Roberto Duran vs. Jorge Suero. While only a classic in the sense that it is an old fight (a ''classic'') and it was a bad mismatch as Suero was 0-1 versus an already legendary fighter.....what a knockout!!!

Lennox Lewis V David Tua.

One of Lewis's easiest fights.

It's not that Lewis was great, it was more that Tua was pathetic.

Tua looked like a tubby toilet brush that had just walked into a gym and asked the trainer to teach him how to box; he was that bad.

I maybe be mis-remembering, but was Tua a slight favourite?

If so, he is without doubt the most embarrassing favourite ever.

I think Lewis was 3.5 to 1 favourite or something like that, which is still much closer than the actual ability discrepancy

Thing with a guy like Tua, you neutralize his big weapon, and take it out of his range, and there is like nothing there.

I got it the wrong way round, but like you have said, really close odds that were totally at odds with the abilities of the two fighters.

I got it the wrong way round, but like you have said, really close odds that were totally at odds with the abilities of the two fighters.

that's because Tua was a big puncher and Lewis was considered chinny. Which made the fight an interesting one. I thought Tua had a chance myself but guess not. And yeah it truly sucked. Thank God for Trinidad-Vargas only one month later!

After a few rounds, it looked like Tua basically gave up. He didn't pressure Lewis at all which was his only chance he had.

Ingemar Johansson vs Eddie Machen


Johansson destroys Machen in 1 round of a non title Heavyweight fight, Machen caught cold, down 3 times before the worst referee in history counted him out, Machen usually durable but Johansson dropped him heavily with a textbook right cross, Machen beat the count but another combination had him down again, ref was in way so hard to see exactly what happened but it started with another straight right and ended with a left hook, Machen got up but he was gone and it shouldve been stopped there and then

It was allowed to continue but straight away Johansson trapped him in corner where he rained down punches, Machen was out cold on his feet, incredibly the ref stayed clear, Johansson must've landed 15 unanswered hard accurate shots before Machen slumped unconscious to the canvas, his corner didnt exactly cover themselves in glory either but they were quick in to work on him and just to rub salt in wounds the ref carried on counting Machen out, disgraceful reffing

Total dominance by Witherspoon showing Broad he was not in that league, KO2. On the Tubbs-Page and Camacho Sr-Montoya card.

Harold Johnson vs Eddie Machen


Johnson beats Machen by close decision in a non title Light Heavyweight fight, not a classic, it was competitive but no drama or change of action, it was pretty much a jab off between both men, Johnson's was just better and busier, for 10 rounds both men just exchanged jabs, in the last round Johnson did bring the right hand into play as well as the occasional hook but all in all it was a no frills type of fight, Machen landed some nice jabs as well but overall was disappointing, no second gear

Sugar Ray Leonard V Wilfred Benitez.

Weird fight for me.

Obviously a great contest between two great fighters, both in their primes, but the contest must have set a record for the most missed punches, so defensively adept they were.

This was SRL at his zenith with blistering handspeed, a piercing jab, great movement and skills.

Benitez was also tremendous, despite losing.

Hector Camacho Sr. vs Roque Montoya

Camacho was just too quick for a "national champion" level fighter in Montoya who did not belong there with a world level and hall of famer like Camacho.

I saw this also live when I was 12,. Factoring in that Camacho was moving up in weight I remember giving Montoya a basic chance. But I think a fight between Montoya and someone more to his level would have been much more exciting to see and close IMO. Today, I scored this bout 120-106 for the legendary Macho Man

Tua was totally embarrassed by chris byrd the same byrd who went life and death with oquendo and mccline

Tua just is beloved because of the ruiz fight. And rightfully so because ruiz was the worst

Lennox Lewis V David Tua.

I am fairly sure that the late Glyn Leach called it all the way for Lewis in Boxing Monthly when everyone was going crazy for Tua and saying Lennox was in for a torrid evening or even a defeat.

By and large Lennox was at his best when in with a fancied guy (and Tua was fancied as was Grant) and at his worst when he took his eye-of-the-ball in what were supposed to be regulation defences, pay-cheque nights.

He certainly had a more tricky night against the little known Mavrovic than he ever did with Tua .

I don't think picking Lewis is really that impressive of a feat, Tua may have been overrated but no doubt Lewis was still a clear favourite, hardly everyone was going crazy for Tuana Fish

Tua KO'd Fres didnt he, though between Fres and Byrd he won like what, 2 rounds? I enjoyed watching Tua for that 'when will it happen ' vibe, but no doubt he was short on skill and dimensions

Kennedy McKinney vs Junior Jones



McKinney gets off the canvas to stop Jones in the 4th to become World Super Bantamweight champ, fun fight will it lasted, both men came out fighting instead of boxing and for the first 3 rounds it was Jones who was coming out on top, throwing a 100 punches a round, he dropped McKinney in the 3rd with a couple of clubbing right hands, McKinney making most of the 8 count, Jones poured it on him but there was signs he was getting reckless


In the 4th McKinney regrouped and he had Jones down from a right but ref ruled push, no matter as not long after Jones walked into a monster right which dropped him heavily, he made count and ref waved it on but as he walked towards McKinney his legs betrayed him and he collapsed face first, the ref waved it off before McKinney got to him

I am getting old now mate.....but trust me there was a lot of hype around Tua (he was not viewed as low rent) at the time and he was a very live contender.

Tua hit appreciably hard and he and Ibeabuchi were supposedly the coming guys in the division.

Lewis did a good job that night.

Oh, I'm sure there was a hype, but Len was still a pretty clear fave , someone picking him to win isnt really that notable

That was an easy fight to predict, I think ll was 5-1
