Zaragoza wins a SD to become World Super Bantamweight champion, talk about a young unbeaten champ getting old man'd McCullough just never go to grips with Zaragoza who was excellent, got to work from the opening bell, McCullough struggled to deal with the southpaw style of Zaragoza who jabbed him, nailed him with straight lefts to head and body, countered him and always got last word, even when McCullough got up close it was Zaragoza who had thr best success


McCullough finally seemed to find his range in the middle rounds but it petered out and Zaragoza regained control to old man him, McCullough finished the fight in attack mode but it was too little too late and really the decision should've been unanimous in favour of Zaragoza

Love this fight. Zaragoza was incredible in keeping up that pace throughout the contest. A great win.

Mike McCallum vs Jeff Harding

Mike was just a wee bit too polished for Jeff.......although Harding was not going anywhere and I reckon Mike knew that a single moment of sloppiness or getting into a firefight with Harding would spell big danger.

Denying Harding any kind of "in" must have been the masterplan....leave the door ajar and Harding was precisely the sort of bloke to kick something of its hinges and be a heap of trouble.

I always liked Harding a lot......he maxed-out what stuff he had and only fell short against the very, very best.
Harding's record is not too shabby and I think Mike showed him the respect he ultimately warranted.

The Duran-Marcel bout was Great. Non-Stop back and forth action. It basically looked even before they stopped it.
I don't see where it should've been stopped though. Did the ref see something that we the viewers don't notice ?

Erik Morales vs Wayne McCullough



Morales beats McCullough by UD to retain his World Super Bantamweight title, clear on the cards but what an effort from McCullough, certainly fared better here than he did against the styles of Zaragoza and Hamed, Morales was easier to find, McCullough's heart and will was off the scale, Morales brought his A Game though and he needed it because McCullough was always coming forward trying to rough him up and had pockets of success


Morales was quality though, fought a more technical fight, didn't mind getting in the trenches either but countered beautifully at times, led off as well, put together some lovely combinations, worked the jab, the body and clocked McCullough with some clean right hands, some great exchanges, fun fight, Morales thr clear winner but McCullough played his part

It is one of the best fight rivalries out there...despite the fact that each guy was not really seen as a stand-out, elite champion and who probably does pretty poorly over on the Mythical Fight thread.

Harding won it 2-1 but each match-up was fascinating for very different reasons.
I like the first fight the best but then again, the second is a classic with a very old Andries slotting Harding down in Oz.

Maybe important to remember that this was not WBO business....these guys were good enough to hold the WBC belt when that was the strap you wanted.

Scott Harrison vs Wayne McCullough



Harrison beats McCullough by wide UD to retain his World Featherweight title, tough night for McCullough he needed that granite beard and supreme fitness to last the distance, not to mention massive cojones, Harrison was just too fresh and big for him, got the jab going early, targeted the body and landed some nice combinations, he was able to counter over the McCullough jab and nail him with the right hand

McCullough looked hurt in the 6th and looked like nearly being stopped in the 8th after Harrison repeatedly hit him with clean unanswered shots, McCullough to his credit stayed on his feet and managed to last until the end but it was a torrid night for him ,Harrison was excellent

Oscar Larios vs Wayne McCullough 1+2



Larios beats McCullough by UD to retain his World Super Bantamweight title, fairly wide decision which was surprising, looked a real close fight nip/tuck all thr way, no drama of sorts but plenty action from both men, fought mostly at close quarters but it wasnt messy, can't remember the ref getting involved even once, McCullough looked like he was eeking ahead but Larios finished stronger in the closing rounds, his shots had that bit more quality on them whereas McCullough was missing a lot and pushing out punches for the sake of it, incredible engine again from McCullough, could've went his way maybe, cards were def harsh



Larios stops McCullough after 10 rounds of the rematch to retain his title, first time McCullough was stopped, another cracking fight and insane bravery and chin from McCullough but Larios was too good this time especially down the stretch, first half of the fight was razor tight both men employed same tactics as first time around and fought inside the pocket, the punch output was phenomenal, McCullough threw 170 punches in the 4th, compubox record and when you consider theres only 180 seconds in a round its staggering, a lot of his work was blocked or evaded though and Larios did land the better punches, after midway Larios decided to box McCullough rather than fight it out and that was when he pulled away, got the jab off, landed to the body and unloaded some sharp combinations, McCullough's heart was incredible and he always came back firing, in the end was taking too much punishment for his own good, Larios was way ahead and after 10 rounds, McCullough's corner rightly pulled their man

Linares/McCullough, if that's on your list, is a rough watch.

McCullough didn’t fight Linares. Larios did but I don’t recall that being a particular tough watch. Do you mean the McCullough Larios rematch? That was hard on the eyes IIRC busted eardrum for Wayne I think

What a tremendous fight!

Larios’s punch output is incredible, sadly so is watching Vasquez and his almost complete aversion to head movement or making any sort of angles with his feet. He has to be one of the most hittable elite fighters I have ever seen, it’s painful to watch him eating shots.
