He DID want the fight, had to pull out with a chest infection then boxing politics took over.
There's no point in carrying on repeating over and over again.
Rhodes scared of Small ?
Oh deary me.
Let's wait and see if Sugar Ray Clay turns up against Hall.

26. if he had isues he should have said. Wht he said was 'I can fight someone else and get a World Title Shot'..

World Title? I hope he does but when?

As for counter puncher. - pay him no mind!

Please, DG.
The devil is in the detail.
Just for the sake of DG let's say this that and the other just to placate him and risk an injunction.
That would be bright, wouldn't it ?
Anyway, enough.

He would have been better served NOT doing the interview, he could have said 'for legal reasons I can not comment'

BUT - its been in Boxing news anyway!

MMM another good move - refuse to be interviewed by you paymasters.
Nice one.
Thank the Lord you're not representing any fighters.
You'd have them frozen out in weeks. :TU:
Are we still mates ?

He is not a slave, he can request they do NOT ask certain questions.

IN fact - they did NOT ask about the Fwank situation so I think it shows he is not a slave to them.

If I were representing a fighter I would not have the whole purse bid contracts and press conference only to NEVER FIGHT THE GUY.

Injunction? ON what is already out in the press? I think not.

:D

I can understand why Ryan pulled out of the Small fight and gave up his title, Rhodes is now ranked in the WBC top 10, at number 8, and the guy he is targeting is the EU title holder who is IBF's number 5.

Small isn't ranked in any top 10 of the governing bodies, so Ryan had alot to loss and little to gain by boxing Small, except getting another notch on the British title.

Saying that though, i wanted the fight to happen.

Onto more pressing matters...

Anyone see the guy ringside who kept lifting his left arm up and tapping his body when urging Rhodes to go to the body? Tickled me anyway

Same here. It's all about risk versus reward, which everyone here should know (DG, wtf are you on?) I have no doubts that Rhodes would fight Small if it would guarantee him a title shot.

Look,
We're never gonna agree DG so call it a score draw.
The last thing I want to do is come over as an arsehole teaching you to suck eggs. :TU: but there are issues that will never fall into the publuc domain.
The devil is in the detail - for the third time !

My personal feeling is Ryan took one for the promoter who couldn't afford the fight on shit ticket sales.

I have no evidence to support this instinct. But I cannot surpress it.

No problem, I am sure there are other factors in place, but 'they' made it look as if Ryan does not have the uptmost faith in his abilty.

Asterix, Risk reward?

As of TODAY there is no guaranteed fight with the EU person.

The point is, the press conference -bids etc were a waste of time and money.

Maybe the MODS can make a 'lets all agree' section where we all just agree like bloody lemmings..

As 26 said, there is more to it.

Made ryan look daft though!

:D

As I've said before - what's the point of winning purse bids if you can't afford to put the show on.

26 is trying to shift the blame elsewhere, but Hayemaker won the bids for this fight, they could have re-scheduled it for Rhodes' home town. :geek:

I'll ask you again Beagle.
Is your issue with me or Ryan ?
I've asked you on another thread and you've not replied.
Just for the public record seeing as you only seem to post on anything if either 1/ I'm posting or 2/ Rhodes is the subject matter.

Yes, this is the rub.

Until Rhodes got sick, the fight WAS presumably, going to go ahead as planned. Or was it not?

I think the fact that Rhodes is co managed by FW has a lot to do with this

The official line is that Rhodes was not prepared to box in the summer because of attending his brother's wedding (I'm not really sure why this necessarily messes things up) and probably would have ended up getting stripped; if not, at the very least, he wanted to keep the British title moving. To be honest, I suspect he just didn't want the hassle.

Both he and his trainer are aware that he'll be slated on the net and accused of bottling it. In their eyes, they don't give a f*ck about this. Their thinking is that if they beat the EU champ they take his top ten rankings with two bodies to get him closer to a world title shot seeing as he's getting on a bit. Beating Small wouldn't achieve that.

Ian,

Sorry mate getting confused here - Having hold of the EU title basically means f*ck all other than a ranking in Europes top 20 - its for those fighters outside of the top 10 in Europe - if you are in the top ten you can fight for the main EBU title - or do I have this wrong.

I am a big supporter of Ryan Rhodes and when the pull out of the Small fight came about it did not surprise me at all - I feel Rhodes is worthy of a European Title shot - you will note I have not stated an EU title shot!!! - if Europe was the route Team Rhodes wanted to go to force a World Title shot then I am afraid the only way to that would have been a proper tilt at the proper European title - may I remind all of you how long even if you are a European Title holder how long it takes to get hold of a world title shot - Howard Eastman springs to mind - look how long Jamie Moore has waited around etc etc

The only reason I can see for getting this EU title is to perhaps persuade Jamie Moores handlers - a fighter between the EBU and EU title holders is worthy!!! - I feel I am clutching at straws there.

Sorry - I simply do not see the sense behind this EU Title route at all.

Again - If its Europe then go directly at Jamie Moores title by lobbying them dodgy so and so's at the EBU that Rhodes is worthy of a shot at Jamie Moore.

I feel Hayemaker have made a cock up in my view - unless of course they have something else up their sleeves!!!

Another note - surely if you are manoeuvering your fighter into a possible world title shot you need to get all of the ring rust out of the way and have him in with relative quality opposition - not some clown we have never heard of !!! :o

Beagleboys - just the way I see it mate!!! :TU:

Haven't read any of this thread. The one I posted on was a little one about Rhodes bottling it.

The EU champ is a light-middle called Lukas Konecny:

http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer

He's ranked five with the IBF and now three with the WBO.

Rhodes is his mandatory challenger.

Sounds like, all things considered, Rhodes stood to gain little from the Small fight. But this does beg the question, why plan it in the first place? :witzend:
