Nope, I accept these are parts of those sports and that pictures tell stories better than words.

I do however have a problem with TV crews sticking cameras into the faces of wives/girlfriends etc. just incase their man gets flattened so that the broadcaster can wank himself stupid over images of peoples loved ones in distress.

The same applies to the multitude of websites, whether it's a specialist site like fightnews.com or a national newspaper site. Who would actually be surprised or shocked by this image? I just don't get it.
It also strikes me as being a somewhat contradictory stance given you're happy (as we all are) to endorse a sport with its fair share of deaths, brain injuries etc, etc.

I honestly do not know where I stand on this one:

On one hand I am sickened by the pictures - said it on many other threads, Ricky Hatton has done an immense amount for British Boxing so it aint good when he gets beat - its even worse when lets face it he gets hammered and then worse still when the pictures are all over the place.

I expected Pacman to win - I expected Pacman to do very well in all areas of the fight - but even with that said I was positive Ricky could give Pacman something to think about not get smashed.

I think if I were really honest is Boxing needs "famous" boxers like Ricky Hatton to get the average "Joe Public" to keep paying for the tickets to keep them coming through the doors - what makes me sick now because of this defeat is that they will now turn to Amir Khan and think he is some form of world beater just because his name is known - yet most of us know that as soon as Khan goes in with someone who can land punches he is in a whole heap of sh*t!!!

So overall - the pictures whilst they are portraying the truth as pictures do not lie - what they dont do is British Boxing any good as they display Britains best known and most popular boxer lying unconcious on the floor of the ring - surely that will put off not only fans but some people who are considering coming into the sport.

I am waffling - I am a tadge confused - the pictures show what happened so why cant they be shown - but then the heart saying - get them the f*ck out of here due to them being of our best known boxer!!

You have all the answers when it comes to journalism, so you should know that it's a crap photo with a crap headline - a sordid front page for a once worthy magazine. Hatton looks dead, and Pacquiao looks to be revelling in another man's demise. It is horrendous. As I stated, it all boils down to lack of journalistic skill. I believe the boys at BN now write their own headlines and own captions, which speaks for itself. Sub-editing is an art form. I mean, "Hatton flattened" - pathetic. Never state what the eye can already see. Ultimately, they couldn't compose a decent headline so they came up with this disgusting pic.

It's a sensationalist pic that tells the story of last Saturday night, it'll help sell issues of BN IMO.

I don't have all the answers, I have an opinion, and it's one that happens to differ from yours. Deal with it rather than offering playground-style sarcasm.
I happen to agree that the headline is a poor one, but that's a shifting of the goalposts in terms of what we've been discussing, which is use of that image. As you've already seen, the pretty much unanimous verdict is that it is a great image that encapsulates the essence of the fight. The point is that everyone (and I mean everyone!) knows that Hatton isn't dead. And pretty much every single boxing fan will have already seen this image or a variation of it, whether through TV, the net or national papers.
I'm genuinely struggling to come to terms with your belief that it is 'disgusting' - it's an inherent part of the sport and for you to claim otherwise is utterly disingenuous.
Unfortunately it's pretty clear to me (and most others) that your feud with Boxing News is badly skewing your judgement on this occasion.

I think the photo captures everything that we all love about boxing,the sudden endings,the joy of the winner in fact the whole drama that i think can only be provided by watching the noble art.

High and lows, its the sport we chose, you can not just take the bits you like.

Aside from a picture of just Manny celebrating or the shots of Hatton when recovered and sitting in the stool (with the angle "what next for Ricky") there was very little else you can use... and those would have been criticised for being bland, if more tasteful.

Unfortunately, with the nature of the fight, you're not going to get Ricky on his knees searching for his gum shield.

One of the most powerful pictures I have seen in recent times, was the ones BM used of Haye vs Maccarinelli - especially the one where Haye is celebrating and Enzo Mac is still in the ring looking shell shocked... with all the press taking pics of Haye and Enzo the forgotton man in the background.

High and lows.

One Guys high is another Guys low.

Remember that.

The cover may have shock value but we know that Hatton is ok so it is a great pic, obviously if he'd have been seriously injured then I'm sure that they wouldn't have run it.

On the whole I loved this week's BN. I particularly liked the piece on Tony Bellew

Maybe the fight report should have just been 'Hatton lost. Take our word for it, as the truth is horrid and ghastly and awful....'

BN could cut back to about 6 pages with coverage like that....

Hatton is one of my favourite fighters, but I don't have a problem with that picture, as long as Hatton walked away in good health, which he did.

the bn cover: it's a great photo, foreground and background images telling the story of the fight.

every still i've seen of the fight shows hatton "in distress."

the shot where hatton is taking a hard left hand, hatton is "in distress" - he looks like he's had an electric shock.

You can state that belief, but most want to see it.
