Tough one to call,id lean slighty towards Brodie...Mullings was around then aswell ,did ok for a while after Oliver beat him...

I really hope Brodie stays retired tho...

Yes, he and Donna were married and have children and Michael got fleeced when the marriage broke down before the first Chi fight, probably because of the children but also because Donna looked like the one who wore the trousers.
Michael has been through worse and survived: his mother died of cancer when he was 15.

I was suprised when i read he is 35 i probably shouldn't have been. I can't see this ending well.

I could never quite work out why Brodie never made it to world champ. I thought he had all the skills.

But whether it was the fact he liked to get stuck in, or prefered to do his work from mid-range, or just that intangible but evident air of fragility he always had, he never QUITE made it (although he certainly should have against Jorin).

I'm not sure I see this ending as badly as others.

I think that if he sticks to the 130lb domestic scene, say, he won't do so very badly. Afterall, he was competing at well above that level for the majority of his career. Even if he's lost a step or three, which he probably had after the first Chi fight, and certianly will have now, I don't see him as being outclassed at that level.

It's just a matter of whether he comes up against some savage young stud, or some fast handed runner who can make him look his age.

Besides, if he wants to continue, it's not my job to deny him his right to work.

best inside offensive skills i've seen in a fighter from these Isles

disagree that he was robbed against chi.

but fighters pride and all that.

let's see how he looks on his comeback.

he's still young enough to maybe do something.

hopefully he earns himself a few quid and doesn't outstay the welcome.

offensively he was good enough.

excellent punch picker.

but defensively was his achilles heel.

plus he marked up fairly easily.

last 2 fights his punch resistance wasn't really at the races.

at a level he might do something on this return though. :>

abundantly skilled and a brave bast..d was brodie. he said after the chi loss that he let people down, michael never let anyone down. i hope he is not too brave in this comeback. i'm surprised he hasnt made his name and a few quid as a top coach

Thanks for the interview, Terry. I once met Mikey briefly after he'd fought at the Forum in Wythenshawe in 2001 and he's a very nice fella. I hope the comeback turns out well for him, as he deserves a bit of luck now. Most important, though, as Harry says above, is he doesn't get hurt.

Does anybody know why the fight didn't happen?

can't say i'm lookng forward to the brodie fight, because he's had his day and he looked finished vs chi and - at last chance saloon - vs harrison. he just folded, didn't have "it" any more.

i recall back in 04 or 05 many of us were rallying for harrison v brodie. warren poo poo'd the fight, saying what has brodie done recently and it'll be a mismatch. the usual, i.e. why should his fighter do owt. turned out he was right, though. (a lot of us were demanding harrison - a suspect world champ but a strong bloke - to do something; but doing brodie didn't end up meaning too much)

while no one will forget brodie-chi 1 easily, brodie also had an amazing fight with neil swain for the british title. that is worth checking out, for those that haven't.

Brodie for me was ultimately too small at Featherweight.

Good call. That was by all accounts an absolute classic, though I didn't get the chance to see it and only read the reports unfortunately.

Great fight - I don't think Swain ever fought again after that. Another Brodie battle worth checking out was his UD over super-tough Pastor Maurin. Brodie was very marked up at the end of that one. He never seemed to have it easy. Maybe, as Stu says, he wasn't a natural feather.
