Re: Total Bouts in the BoxRec Database: By Decade
Could we please get an updated version of the number of fights held per year?
Or at least for 2011?
Thanks!

Also, as of Jan. 7, 2012, 7:30 p.m., Pacific Time (USA), the total and actual number of bouts in the database: 1,583,421.
Which means that the Editors entered some 78,000 bouts in the past year, or some 1,500 each week.

There's already been 756 bouts taken place this year?

How does that work rate compare with earlier years?
Are we getting lazy or better?
Re: Total Bouts in the BoxRec Database: By Decade
slower but that is envitable
Re: Total Bouts in the BoxRec Database: By Decade
I suppose that might have a lot to do with the fact that most of the remaining recorded fights to be entered are found in sources that less people have access to.
Almost all results in well known sources, at least from the last 3-4 decades, have been entered already.
A lot of the fights being entered into the database these days took place pre-1950.
That said, there is a mountain of work left to be done from that era.

TRY FULTON POSTcards they have all pre war new york papers and its free.....newspaper archive is cheapish about 60 quid a year....google news archive obviously no longer growing but still plenty of bouts in there.....free aswell....i have a subsciption to britishnewspaper archive but mostly pre 1900 but hopefully will grow but usual copyright issues think copyright in uk is 100 years ...us 75 i think....try the australian newspaper archive ....fecking brilliant ..free and a real good search engine...1000s bouts there pre war.....so still much work to do....i would not be suprised to say we have not even got 50 percent of the british fights in the database....2million is the target.......guess sometime in 2014 hopefully........lol
Re: Total Bouts in the BoxRec Database: By Decade
From Italy I have a lot of work to do. Before to check and than to insert many missing bouts. Yesterday I inserted more 50 bouts. Every editor is performing a wonderful work and also the administrators are doing very well. Congratulations to everyone.

Hi Demy,
I would like to add to your sentiment, I think we are building the modern equivalent of an Egyptian pyramid, over the last 10 years the amount of time and expertise put in by the editors is staggering

Is there a way to do a similar query on results? Say, to only get heavyweight fight results? (Aren't the fights tagged with weight class now?)

Re: Total Bouts in the BoxRec Database: By Decade
Ok, I have a question: Was the number of heavyweight bouts this month exceptionally and ridiculously low?
It seemed that almost no HW of prominence fought in August.
In my own database (nothing like BoxRec's ... only includes bouts where both fighters are somewhat prominent) there were TWO heavyweight bouts this month that qualified for inclusion. I believe that's the fewest since September of 1897!
Next month, though, it looks like almost everyone in the top 100 is fighting.

Re: Total Bouts in the BoxRec Database: By Decade
John, what was the totalt number of bouts staged in 2012?
Re: Total Bouts in the BoxRec Database: By Decade
Here we go, folks!
As of this moment, early Tuesday (US west coast time), we have 1,749,975 bout results in the BoxRec database--closing in any moment on 1.75 million bouts entered. (This already excludes duplicates and the like, but does include some scheduled bouts that may not actually occur.)
We reached 1 million in August 2001 (12 years ago: entering ~62,500/yr); and 1.5 million in March 2010 (three years ago, per a much earlier post here, or ~83,300/yr).
John, can we get a breakdown like you did before, of how many bouts have been recorded for each year?

I guess, it would be a bit complicated to work out... but is there any way, we can get the number of active boxers per year or per decade? That would be VERY interesting!

John, can we get end-of-year results? Happy New Year, everyone!
